When i was really young i remember the wee corner shop called mcdougalls at the corner of aitkenhead road and cathcart road, it was a hardware store and me and my mum used to go there to get paraffin for my grannies heater and it was either pink or blue in colour but the smell was terrific, and if i close my eyes i can still see all the mops, mop buckets and brushes hanging outside, on entering the shop all you could smeel was jeyes cleaning fluid, what a smell - amazing!!!!

I have only just come across this message. The shop referred to, McDougall's Stores, was owned by my family and run by my Dad, James, and his brothers Gilbert and Tom. Their sister, Bessie ran the newsagent's shop in Aikenhead Road.
