When I was in Edinburgh I visted the National Gallery. I had lunch in their tearoom and sat with a nice elderly woman from Helensburgh who had come to see another art exhibit. I joined her and we spent the rest of the day together. During our lunch she talked about the new Prime Minister and hoped that he wouldn't change his quiet ways. Other than him being a Scot I dont know anything about him. What is your opinion?

Other than knowing he is married, has two children, is a son of the Manse, has landed us with a load of taxes and robbed Pension Schemes, I don't know much else about him, oh yes he is Scottish.

He has pretty much kept his head down on many occasions, but has presided over 'numerous' taxes being introduced by the backdoor.

I look forward to his views and any changes he may introduce now he cannot hide behind someone else's decisions....

Time will tell no doubt unsure.gif

Gordon Brown, the son of a Presbyterian minister, was born in Giffnock on the Southside of Glasgow but spent his early years in Fife. Considered by some to be a child prodigy he was admitted to Edinburgh University when he was sixteen years old. He graduated with First Class Honours in History in 1972 and earned his Doctorate some ten years later.

He lost the sight of an eye due to a detached retina as the result of an accident when playing rugby and only a number of operations saved the sight in his remaining eye.

While a student at Edinburgh University he was elected Rector of the University and also served as Chairman of the University Court.

He lectured in politics at the Glasgow College of Technology and worked as a journalist for Scottish Television before being elected to Parliament as the Labour Member for Dunfermline East. Married with two children, he is the longest serving Chancellor of the Exchequer in British history.

Gordon Brown's Father Preached in a Church at Govan Cross,
And I understand he was a pupil at Govan High.{Same school I attended also, ] tongue.gif

Also Tony Blair's Father live in Govan as well, Tony Blair was also born in Scotland, but educated in England,

Thats about it, dont know much more re the polictical side of him,
But time will tell, but I am sure a change is long overdue, from what I hear from the British People

At the end of the day I think they are all just in it for themselves what they get back in return, like a big Fat pension same as the Canadian Politicians
But we might get a nice surprise you never know, laugh.gif

Seems the government 'shuffle' is - as expected - underway as he has already sorted out a number of positions .. will be interesting to see if he heads back towards a (style of) government we knew before all the spin stuff.

Depending on what / where you read it, his eyesight is not so good but seemingly not so bad that he needs assistance or obvious support. Detached retina: At the age of 16, he had joined his older brother John at Edinburgh University, the youngest fresher there since 1945. But disaster struck in his first week of term when he was diagnosed with a detached retina - thought to be the result of being kicked in the head during an end of term rugby match at Kirkcaldy High.
He missed the entire first term while doctors battled to save his sight. He would be in and out of hospital for the next five years, often spending weeks lying on his back in a darkened room. He eventually lost the sight in one eye and retained just 30% of his vision in the other.... Brother: "He was in more of a hurry; he feared he might lose his sight altogether. It was a bleak time.''

Certainly a very clever man though eh! Fast tracked in most things he was involved in. Now the new UK - PM.
