lconaghan
Hi Folks, my Husbands Great Grandfathers brother was Robert/Bobby Conaghan who lived in Blackhill in the 50's, 60's and 70's. I am led to believe that he was a bit of a legend in the area, so much so that they named a lounge at the Molendinar after him(The Conaghan Lounge). He was married to Sarah Johnstone and had 3 children - Rubina(Ruby) who moved to Canada, Jack, who now lives in East Kilbride and another daughter Frances who stayed in Glasgow. When he died the people of Blackhill wrote a poem that was read out at his Funeral in 1979. I have a newspaper clipping that has a picture of him in a back court in Blackhill with the MP Teddy Taylor. Unfortunately only the photo survived and the story is missing. Does anyone out there remember him or have any stories about him.
All The best
Lorna.

I'm new to the site and havin a trawl around. I noticed a post (no 5) from Floydian who mentions John and Agnes Trimble. Floydian, if it's the same couple they would have been my aunty and uncle. My mum's maiden name was Isabella Trimble and she would have been John's big sister. If you want to know more leave me a post!! Corbymags

RE Daly,

Are you ,by any chance ,Helen Daly. My name is Michael Henaghan and lived on the ground floor of the close opposite the Carlins'.
I know Margaret and Betty as well as Danny Ogilvie and also remember the day the twins were born in their house ,which was the custom then. I recall them being rushed to hospital in incubators shortly after they were born.
I can't recall their names but maybe the son was called James after your brother.
Your brother James had a motorbike and would quite often give me a lift to School which was St Mungo's at Townhead.
Margaret Burrows
My name is Margaret burrows i lived at 32 acerhill st, i also remember mrs burrell the money lender. My sisters names are isa, Cathy and Sandra we lived next close to the dochertys. Does anyone remember the Nicholl's? and also also Ronald Rodden? We used to go to school on the back of the horse and cart, down to St Roch's School.

Would love to hear from anyone who remembers me or my family.

Yes, I am the. very man. Kenny and I were great mates when in our late teens ,early twenties.
I was very upset when I heard about Kenny's fall and subsequent death. I attended the funeral. A very sad day indeed.

On another note, I remember you too . You were the artist weren't you and you have gone to live in the USA if my memory is correct. If it is you ,I would like to say a massive HELLO to you and I hope life is good to you.

Hello Rondo

My name is Tricia. I was brought up in blackhill from the age of ten. I lived on the top floor flat of 2 Cranhill Street with my mum and dad. Our building ended up being the only one in the street, it was the corner close. My maiden name was Burns my dad was John Burns and my mum was Edith. My dad was brought up in Blackhill with his brothers and sisters on Craigendmuir Street. I had a big cousin Jannie Burns who lived with my uncle Frank and my aunty May.

I never really hung around or went out to play there very mutch as I was very quiet. Blackhill has a very special place in my heart. My mum and dad lived there untill our building was pulled down in 1992. I wish I had more photos of it. I remmember Harry Cambells shop very well and the ice cream van. When I tell people I was brought up there those who have heard of it always look at me with horror in their eyes and say "Oh that must have been very scary..." I tell them "No it was not scary. It was hard in that it was a very poor and gray place to live but most of the people there were good honest folk just trying to get by and I can honestly say I never had any trouble from anyone. nor did my family or anyone who came to visit me there"

Just thought I would say hello

Tricia x

This seems like a major coincidence! Here is some family history from my side;

Great Grandparents: ????
Grandparents: Hugh & Katie Boyle
Kids: Ian Firth, Hugh Boyle, Cathy McLean, Danny Boyle (died young), Wilhelmina (Lily) McPhail (my mom).

My Aunt Cathy & Uncle Jack McLean were on Maryston. 4 kids: Kathleen, John, Caroline &Angie.
my Uncle Ian & Aunt Margret had 3 kids: Elaine, Ian & Brian
I did not know my Uncle Hugh. I think his wife's name was Cathy or maybe Margret.

Do u recognize any of these names?

Mary stayed in Scotland, marrying Jimmy Gray. She has passed. jan moved to Canada before we did. She was married to Alex McCready. She has passed too. Jean also moved to Canada before we did.
