ohmy.gif This might be a topic for a thread - Stobhill Hospital is closing down. YES Really!!

They are taking it apart bit by bit, replacing it with something called an ACAD - Ambulatory Care And Diagnostic. In other words, a day hospital with no in-beds.

Such a shame. So many people have relied on it. Both my grand-daughters were born there. My Mum and Dad died there. My wife Jean died there. Five years ago my life was saved by Stobhill when I suffered a heart attack. If I had not been so close I would never have made it.

I can see the clock from my front door. We sent a petition containing 45,000 signatures protesting against the closure, plus a postcard campaign when 15,000 people took the trouble to send a card to the Health Minister to try to save the hospital. But it seems they are hell bent on closing it.

Where will we go now? I have been to some twenty protest meetings but to no avail. We are being told that North Glasgow only needs one hospital and it will be Gartnavel situated away in the West End. But I will carry on protesting until the bitter end.

Still I enjoy a good fight.

Carry on protesting Tommy, you never know your luck

It really is ridiculous, as we so often read about hospitals being short of beds.

I remember when Rottenrow Maternity was closing down, the Powers that be decided that the women in the East End of Glasgow should go to Stobhill Hospital. This meant that the women had get a bus into town, then another bus to Stobhill.
No woman in the latter stage of her pregnancy needed all that travel.
There was a loud protest about this foolishness, and it was pointed out that as a new Royal Infirmary was being built, there was no reason why a Maternity Unit should not be incorporated within the building, and that is what happened.

There are too many people making these decisions who have no medical experience, all they see is a balance sheet.
I know running costs have to be taken into consideration, but if we got rid of some of the over paid people at the top, there would be more money to spend on hospitals and patients.

Here are the plans for Stobhill.

I have relations who work in Parhead Psychiatric Hospital, and they have been aware of this transfer to Stobhill for a long time.

What no one seems to know is what will happen to the Parkhead site. Will the Hospital be demolished? Is this another site that will be sold the House builders for buttons? Will it be kept as a local clinic?

It's been on the cards for years Tommy...the closure of Stobhill. I agree, the planning is a shambles as far as convenience for a lot of people.
You wonder who makes the decision based on what don't you.

It was the same with Rottenrow, it took them nearly twenty years from first mentioned to finally close it and move the Maternity unit into the Royal.
People who worked there were aware for a long time that it would eventually happen.

As you say Heather money ends up the factor....cheaper to update {which lets face it many hospitals constantly need doing}..or sell the land to the highest bidder.
