CAT I have been trying to get Gypsy Creams for years and have tried just about every supermarket in Glasgow. Yes I think McVitie's did make them.

An old school friend of mine's Mum worked in Beatties Biscuits in Drumchapel in the 50's and my friend used to bring in all the broken ones to school to share around at milk time. It was brilliant.
Talking about Ayton sandwiches, my mooth is watering, huvnae seen them for years.
maryhillgal
Someone was asking about Andrew Cochrane's. My Dad worked for them for 50 years and I think the last shop closed down in the late 60's. Do you remember when the biscuits were on display in large tins with glass lids and the butter was patted down and shaped and sold in greaseproof paper.
Avril
Hi MHG, it was me that mentioned Andrew Cochranes and my dad worked in the same shop as your dad......remember a while back, I sent you the photo of him with the manager and other assistants behind the counter in the mid 1930's biggrin.gif

Betty dae ye remember the big lump of cheese shaped like a barrel and they used tae cut it with a wire with handles at each end? What about the big tottie bunker at the co-op? Or the kiosk at the co-op where you put your book in and the lassie wrote your messages in it, then you'd wait for your name to be called and the assistant served you from what was written in your book. Does anybody remember the square-ish jam sandwich biscuits that the co-op used to sell, they were magic fur dookin' tongue.gif laugh.gif
