1956 was before my time jeep. I've googled and even on Clyde's own website I can't find reference to this? Could you supply the history for us 'young yins' smile.gif

Great wee team Clyde has always been I must say.
Mathieson
I would say with certainty Jeep that in the full knowledge that Celtic have never ever benefited from a refereeing error that Mr. Harkness or whoever compiled the report for the Sunday Post was wide of the mark. It evidently could not have been a goal.
jeep
Glasgow Girl, it was the 1956 Scottish Cup Semi Final.

Celtic lost the final to Hearts 3-1
Celtic played Mike Haughney their left back at centre forward.
He scored Celtics only goal.

Hope you can read this comment on the goal. Jeep smile.gif

Och !

I was six at the time and a Clyde supporter. My brother was nine and a Celtic supporter. We've both just watched that newsreeel and although we don't remember the clamour over the incident, the names brought back lots of memories. Tommy Ring was my idol !

Thanks for that film, Glasgow Girl !

What a fine looking chap. and nice handwriting.

    Agreed !

They were the days when footballers were actually human and could do things like write their names !

Just for the sake of it, Tommy Ring and Bobby Collins were my favourites of the time.

    Another star and great photo.
    The Wee Barra, Bobby Collins.
Cannae mind the year in the 50s, but an uncle took me to Celtic Park my very first game, Celtic played East Fife, and won 4-1, Bobby Collins was involved in all 4 goals all scored by one man John McPhail.
I believe although not sure but Legs Fleming scored for East Fife.
I believe Collins played junior fitba with Pollock Juniors!
    jeep
Hubert, I think the game you are refering to was played on 25th March 1950 with McPhail scoring 4goals one from a penalty.
Dont know who scored East Fifes goal.

Earlier in the season East Fife beat Celtic 5-1

Throughout the fifties East Fife had a good record against Celtic with 2, 4-1, 3, 3-0 and 2-0 wins.

Yes you could be correct 1950 one of the four goals was a penalty.
East Fife had a good team back then.
