Hello Mario
I wasn't at your school - I went to St Paul's Shettleston _ but I was interested to see the name Franchetti on your list. The Franchettis we knew had a cafe in Shettleston wher we lived. My uncle, Michael Mc Grane, who was a dentist, knew them well. I was also in class with another Italian boy called Massimo Manina. I often wonder what happened to him.

Hi Pauline,
unless the Mrs. FRANCHETTI (maiden name: Crilly) was a school teacher at St Judes Primary School, I'm afraid we're talking about different peopole. FRANCHETTI, is quite a common name in Italy and Glasgow has quite a big Italian community. I have no recollection of any Maninas among friends or relations of that time. Heartfelt thanks for your kind attention.

My family moved to Kentallen Road, Barlanark 1953 when it was just being built.

There was nothing but house's and fields in Barlanark and as I was in Secondary School I had to travel into town to go to School.
It was terrible getting on a bus to get to school on time. There were no Corporation bus came out that way only the SMT that came from Airdrie through Coatbridge and Bargeddie. By the time the bus got to Barlanark it was packed and we were all fighting to get on.

After the school summer holidays the NO. 42 bus was put on and by that time there were that many school children the Corporation had to run two No. 42 busses at the same time so we could all get on and get to school on time.

My three younger sisters went to St. Paul's Primary School on Shettleston Road at the bottom of Gartocher Road, right across from the old St. Paul's Chapel. The youngest sister was one of the first pupils in St. Jude's Primary School when just newly built.

We went to St. Paul's on a Sunday and I was one of many teenagers who were among the first colllectors who went round the doors on a Sunday collecting the Building Fund to help build St. Jude's Chapel.
We would hand in the money after Sunday night Devotions and head off to the State Cafe, two cold drinks and six straws please. laugh.gif
Typical teenagers, we were always skint and always walked down the Hallhill Road and along Gartocher Road to Mass, Devotions, cinema and cafe.

I was maried in St. Jude's by Fr. Docherty the first Parish Priest.

Mario, I was in Rome in September on our Parish Pilgrimage and the irony was, we were still in Rome when the Pope was in Glasgow but we had a Papal Audience in the Audience Hall the day before the Pope went to Glasgow.

My husband and I have been in Italy quite a few times on holiday as it's one of my favourite Countries to visit and that was my third time in Rome.

Hi Rosemary Bell - Are you related to Joan Davidson Bell or Sonny Bell?

Hi Chrissie, Joan and Sonny Bell were witnesses to my mum and dad's wedding in 1958. I've been trying to get in touch with you via PM but it doesn't seem to be working. Could you PM me?
Lynn Bonini
Hi, only read this today, can’t believe this is Mario. I am married now and called Lynn McClements. I remember how tall you were. Can’t remember all the people on the page but remember our P.1 teacher and the candy balls and tablet. I remember John Montegue and the song he made up he sang in the assemble hall. Do you remember Ian McClafferty? I remember messing around and i accidently broke his mum’s window. I still live outside Glasgow and have three boys. Just read that Edward Reilly went to live in Australia i often wonder what happened to him. If you get this email back.

No, sorry Bell is my married name

Hey Mario, my name's Michael Nevin. You probably recognise the surname being from Barlanark and can guess some of my family but Hugh Moran is my uncle.
