Hi, folks ,I had a quick word with her husband and he said she wasn't doing very well .(pneumonia) Some days better than others .I hate to keep calling so like the rest of you I'm waiting to hear from the family .As soon as I have any news I will pass it on ,PROMISE. Ive asked the family to tell her everyone at GGB is pulling for her .She is a stubborn auld lady and will be putting up a good fight .I had a brief talk with her after I lost Al and she didn't sound too well then ,I wasn't in a fit state to have a bleather but made her promise me to get help and promised to call her soon .
ashfield
Jakka, thanks for the update. I think everybody understands how delicate the situation is for you contacting Boot's family, we appreciate you taking the time to keep us informed.
Elma
I'm sorry Jean, I don't mean to take this away from you but I have just read on facebook that our Joyce (Boots) passed away today. I'm sure everyone on GG will join me in my condolences to her family and to Jean who was a good friend to Boots and has suffered so much recently.
norrie123
Sorry to hear about Boots passing, RIP Boots
RonD
Elma, I just saw it too on face book. Boots was one of the many names I knew from GG but hadn´t had contacted over the 8 years I have been a member. However, just this past Spring she contacted me for some help in finding some of her ancestry. I was able to do so which gave me almost as much pleasure for me as it was for her. We did speak on the phone and did get to know each other a little and she was an exceptional lady with an interesting life. R.I.P. Joyce.

Just home from a visit with one of my girls .Once again heartbroken ,she was a dear friend .I'll call her daughter tomorrow and pass on condolences .I wonder if my tears will ever stop .Sometimes life sucks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gallusbisom
Dear Friend,
The tears will never stop BUT, with time many of those tears will become tears of joy and remembrance, when you see one of your kids, or grandchildren, do something that brings back wonderful memories. Yes, there will be sad tears but when you have a great marriage, you are entitled to that. Just remember, if you are a religious person that your beloved is in a better place but he is also sharing in all the joys and progress of your children and your grandchildren and what has yet to be. Remember that old saying: Born in xxxx---------passed in xxxx, it is what we did between the dashes that count and your beloved Husband did well, very well.

Your frien aye.
Heather
I woke up on Sunday with a bad cold and I still can't get rid of it.

My husband has been given me hot toadies, but they don't help except to give me a headache, but I have never liked whisky.

As I look through the window this morning , the sky is
grey but with short breaks of sunshine , and very
light flakes of snow just drifting down , it looks so pretty
although the temperature is only 1'Cel.
I'm staying home today and just putter around the place ,
I had a busy day yesterday , I ended up having two
medical appoinments that I had'nt realised until Tues evening
that they where both on the same day , so to say it was hectic would be an
understatement , anyway hectic or not , it's good to be alive .
Have a good Day People .. smile.gif
Heather
Well Angel, right now it is pouring down rain here, no surprise there.
It's a wonder that with all the rain we have had recently, this Country has not sunk.

Still got my cold, I can't get rid of it and I have not been out since last Saturday.
angel
Heather , Light snow flurries here with the temp. about -3'C
I think that we are the warmest place in Canada at this time .

I do hope that you can get rid of that cold soon .
I have been under the weather myself for the past two weeks
but anyway I am dealing with it , so hopefully all will be , ..
OK soon .
You take care and try and have a good day , Pat . biggrin.gif

After a rare five dreich days on the trot of wind and rain with maximum temperatures of 17C, today we have a spring day in the middle of November with temp. back up over 20C and brilliant sunshine in a clear blue sky. Made a big pot of soup, based on the remains of a beef casserole, with extra veg. and pulses.

Take care , Heather, as a cold should only last a few days - any longer and an infection could have set in. Probably teaching my granny to suck eggs there !

Going out for an early dinner in Hemel Hempstead Old town this evening. There is a Victorian Christmas street event which is usually good and the lights are being switched on. It is very atmospheric there at the best of times. It is, in my opinion, a bit too early but as we are going anyway, to see this, we will combine.

Heather
Angel, you keep your snow, we don't want it.

Bill, it's a typical winter for me, the wind blows on me and I get a cold. That is why I am always wrapped up in warm coat, hat, scarf, and gloves.

Aye Gardenqueen, Christmas is getting earlier every year. I have been watching Christmas films on the TV today.

I have not done any shopping or bought any cards yet, but I will get the cards tomorrow in the Chapel.

Just fitted new (for me tongue.gif ) genuine Mercedes alloy wheels with top winter tyres. Bonnie's owner had done a Job on a Swiss guy's Merc and changed his wheels and was asked if he could dump the replaced ones ... so he dumped them on me 205x65x16 Michelins.
No Screws tho' so I said I'd call in at the Merc Garage. No don't do that they'll cost an arm and a leg. Go to so-and-so and say Hello from me which I did.
Twenty screws; long-reach, and they insisted I just throw 5 into the coffee swindle.
That's me set up for the winter for 5 thumbup.gif
Bonnie, tell your Daddy thanks from Tomi clap.gif
RonD
You´ve been good to Bonnie, Tomi, so just like your new tyres......................What goes around comes around! smile.gif
TeeHeeHee
LOL ... you should have seen her a week ago when I came back from Italy after having missed our usual Outing together ... and her half chicken (I get the Chips rolleyes.gif ) ... you'd have thought I'd been gone a month: nearly pinned me to the ground (she's a big strong Girl) laugh.gif
RonD
I hope you have Bonnie on a raw diet, they live lo nger and healthier that way. Google raw diet for dogs
TeeHeeHee
Poor ol' Bonnie gets her chicken freshly grilled when I take her out Ron. But she loves joghurt and Wurstsalat too.
My two cats and the stray that comes from early morning till late in the evening to be fed by us, get their raw Turkey Steaks Saturdays and Sundays tongue.gif

well ladies all of our nice weather has gone somewhere else , cause it aint here ,
very damp , stinking wet snow , all slushy and bad driving conditions , Oh well
as thy say ,, C"est la vie .
I hope Heather that you are feeling better and the weather has improved .

GQ , about those christmas movies , the first one was on tv here on Sunday afternoon
I think as a rule I usually tolerate one more and then I settle down to watch the weather
station . yes.gif and I will wait until christmas when my oldest grandson gives me a
gift card for the book store . I do hope all is well with you .

Also ladies , today my family doctors' office called to tell me that my appointment
to see the heart specialist will be on Dec 8th , now that means that I had only a little more
than two weeks to wait , that's terrific . By the way , I am honestly not expecting bad news
with that but I will go because he thinks I should . O"well we'll see . Take care , Pat

What a strange ol' sky I'm lookin' at just now. The street is lit up like a summer's morning as I gaze out this North facing window thinking I should go down to the Hotel where I've a good bit of work to do outside. Looking out my South-East facing bedroom window, the sun sit's up there in a clear blue sky to the East ... to the South, West and North the sky is one big dark blanket of cloud.
That's it settled.
I'll go into my cellar and finish of the preparation work for that Job then nip down to Hotel at dinner time and pick up my wages ... tomorrow should be a nice day for working outside tongue.gif
kenb
getting lazy tommi i bet if it was bonnie`s day you would`nt even be looking at the sky from your windae, back from oz safely no bites from sharks or owt not even from the flying fox fruit bats which are4ft wing span massive buggers

I haven't been on GG for years and years now. Today I was thinking about all the laughs I had on here and the great Scottish friends I made. I was also thinking of Boots. We had many hilarious phone conversations. The years went by and we lost touch. I wanted to see if I could find her again and was so sorry to learn that she had passed away.
CAT
Maybe Boots brought you back to us. Welcome back. We need more laughs on here, been a wee bit serious for a while. Looking forward to your posts. biggrin.gif
Barbara
Hi Cat. Thank you for the warm welcome. The whole world feels a wee bit serious now-a-days. Can someone tell me about jimmyd. He lived in OZ. Is he still with us?

A wet morning here in Hertfordshire. Just about to go on a bus trip to Birmingham for the German Christmas Market. Slightly colder there but not forecast to rain there as much as here, so might be a good move.

Looking forward to a bit of spending on food and drink, both there and to take home. If all else fails, there is a huge John Lewis in Birmingham at the station so a win win situation hopefully.
Dylan
The German Market in Glasgow moved from St. Enoch Square to Argyle Street this year GQ.

Had annual enormous " Hot Dog " and pint of bitter German beer .

Xmas is coming biggrin.gif
TeeHeeHee
No wonder we can't find a Christmas Market over here tongue.gif
RonD
My German brother in law had an annual event on Boxing Day called a speck fry, where you held slices of bacon over the fire in a drum. I never attended one but it was only well attended by the neighbours apparently. Maybe you know more about this Tomi?

I would love to go to a Christmas Market in Glasgow, Dylan, maybe next year....

Birmingham was great though. Divided into two halves, one side mostly British stall holders and the other side mainly German produce if not stallholders. I believe they may be German owned, German produce but I think they have used "local" people to man them. Great atmosphere, lovely food. We didn't actually drink any alcohol as we were not in the mood and had a long coach journey to face home (as it happens, got stuck for a long while on the M6 due to an accident) and need more toilet stops these days if we drink. But I did have a lovely hot chocolate which was the best I have tasted.

Didn't buy much, I find that with all that is available in the UK shops, there seems little point to buying much at the foreign markets except, maybe, food. Saying that, Aldi do a lovely stollen so why cart it back? That is the trouble these days, there is very little unique stuff to buy when you travel around. Also, because I make things myself, I grudge buying certain things and prefer to have a go myself. Also, I have an attic full of things which we will bring down this week ready to start decorating this time next week. I saw my first Christmas tree of the year in someone's house window last night. 23rd November is too early in my opinion although, obviously, the shops, restaurants etc. have had their trees up for months.

Today I am off to collect my new Orla Kiely glasses. Having bi-focals for the first time. I feel old, lol.

Got a doctor's appointment this afternoon. I know how to live!!
