I was out this morning about 9-30am and came back home one hour later, cold and wet.

I had to hang my coat, hat, scarf and gloves up to dry. sad.gif

Heather when I first came to SA and before buying my first car I would walk home.
At that time as I think Zascot will confirm every day almost on the dot at four in the afternoon we would get a terrific thunderstorm.
By the time I got home I would be so cold and wet all I could do was kick of my shoes start the bath, step in and start getting undressed while the bath was filling.
My clothes would be so wet it didn't make any difference.
Heather
Dave, a woman I was speaking to on the way home yesterday, said she was going to have a hot bath as soon as she got home.
She said she was so cold it was the only way she could think of to heat herself up as quickly as possible.

I hope you had a nice day Wellfield. :)

It is very cold here today and pouring rain as usual.

Our bathroom radiator has not been working this last two day's and the bathroom is very cold.
I will have to call British Gas on Monday to get someone out to fix it.

My husband was a Plumber & Gasfitter, but he is not allowed to do any gas repair's now as his Gorgi Registration is no longer valid.
He is too old now and would end up in Court if he was caught doing any gas repair's. :o

Heather please don't get cross with me, but do you need a gas registered plumber to carry out plumbing work on a radiator, if the plumber does not touch the gas fittings or gas boiler? I know your husband was a registered gasfitter, so maybe I am talking through a 'hole in my heid', by raising this question. I am just curious to know if I am. I am going on the assumption that all of the other radiators in the house are working, so the problem isn't gas related.

I went into the back bedroom today and found that one of the windows had blown open in the night. Everything around the windows, cushions and stuff, soaking wet.
Heather
Betsy, I'm not surprised the window was blown open with the weather we are having.

My husband was out this morning for his newspapers and he said he nearly got blown away with the wind being so strong.

Danny, we had a British Gas Engineer out and it turned out my husband was right about the gauge being too low.

The Engineer sorted it out so our bathroom radiator is now working again.

It is bad enough when men go out to shoot people dead, but that woman in America who went out with her husband on a killing spree, disgusts me.

Women are the one's who bring children into life, so they can go out to kill and destroy other lives is beyond me.
Heather
Last week I told the g'children I wanted their Christmas list's.

The family were round today and the g'son ordered the Christmas present's for himself and sister's on line from Amazon, they will arrive in nine days time.

So that is the children sorted out, nae bother at awe. laugh.gif

Betsy I know its not really for this topic but felt I had to relate this true story.

Years ago here in SA when there was more and more bombings and shootings as the ANC tried to overthrow Apartheid, the company I worked for A chemical plant brought in the army to teach us about limpet mines and other possible bombs to look out for.
During a question and answer session the question was asked "if you have a group of terrorists trapped, what do you do" The Colonel took his time answering before finally saying

"if its men we try to talk them into surrendering. Normally a man will realise the hopelessness of his situation and surrender."
"if its woman then we go ahead and shoot them. woman are the more fanatical and will rather die than give up"
Heather
I spent the afternoon writing out all my Christmas Cards, so I will get them posted tomorrow.

Our weather does not seem to get any better, I nearly got blown away just going to the out side bin with the rubbish. ohmy.gif

I was supposed to go to our Prayer group this morning, we were holding it in the retirement home we have here, but I called off as the snow was so bad. There was a warning out that we should not go anywhere today as the roads were so bad especially on top of the hard snow from presvious days. I stayed home all day and spent the afternoon wrapping the rest of my presents. My cat even took a look outside and backed away from the door!
Heather
Clever cat you have there Elma. laugh.gif

Last night I was at our UCM Christmas night out.
We went to the Mail Coach out at Uddingston and the meal was really nice with plenty of food on the plate, but too much for me as I only ate half of it.

There was a Disco / Karaoke and a couple of people got up to sing, then we danced the night away. thumbup.gif

Heather
I was in town yesterday and got the rest of my Christmas present's. So now I can start wrapping them up, but I am still waiting for some present's that were ordered Online.

The town was quite busy for a Monday.
angel

These past couple of weeks have been a very pleasant
time for me , I have been taken out for dinner on
three occasions and also invitations to dinner in the
coming two weeks , also we went to see the
Christmas on Ice Show at the Falls View Casino ,it
was excellent , wonderful skating ,dancers and great
music , the theatre was packed , not an empty seat
in the house . smile.gif

I no longer fill the house with Christmas decorations
as I did years ago but I do put out a few of my favorite
Christmas items just for my own pleasure and hopefully
my now adult family .

As I have mentioned before , I do not shop for many
Christmas gifts because , My gifts have been to my family
simply money in a card which they can spend on themselves
and hopefully the books that I buy for them , they will enjoy , as they have done so in the past .

I have not gone shopping in the States for a while now
because the Canadian dollar isn't worth a plug nickel
and the exchange rate is to high to buy the American dollar
so it is less expensive to shop at home , and these days
that suits me just fine smile.gif also the weather has been wonderful
here for December and the last two days in my area the
Temp. rose to 20"C. ,I keep thinking , it's to good to be true . cool3.gif

Heather
I have done all my Christmas shopping and have started to wrap up.

We now have the tree and some decorations up.

I am a bit worried about some of the g'children's gifts which the g'son ordered online from Amazon and were to arrve within nine days.
But we are now into the tenth day and three of them have not arrived yet.
Hopefully they will arrive in time.

Heather
John, it was my g'son who did the ordering, he does it every year even for his own gifts. laugh.gif

So I have a valid excuse if the rest of the gift's don't arrive and his sister's can blame him. yes.gif

Yesterday there has been changes to my
Christmas Itinerary biggrin.gif
I won't be home after all , I will not be cooking
Christmas breakfast for the family as usual ,
instead , I will be away for a few days , so
I'm looking forward to that . smile.gif
Heather
Angel, where are you off to?

My niece and her husband are taking us out for Christmas Dinner, so no cooking for me.
Our family will be round early on Christmas Day as we are getting picked up at 2-30pm for our meal at 3' 0'clock pm smile.gif
angel
Hi Heather , your Christmas day sounds very nice
hope you enjoy it and get lots of nice pressies . biggrin.gif

I won't be travelling to far, I won't be out of the country
just about a 2hr.drive visiting and staying over with friends
and the weather is supposed to be good , so suits
me when driving rolleyes.gif

I spent last night doing a little baking that I will take
along with me plus other munchies .

I bought a new table Christmas tree this year , it's very nice ,
artificial of course but it can go along with the
artificial Turkey , Why Not ! tongue.gif .
Well Heather , I do wish you all the best for 2016
and also good health . Cheers Pat .

A Politically Correct Christmas Poem

Twas the night before Christmas and Santa's a wreck...
How to live in a world that's politically correct?
His workers no longer would answer to "Elves",
"Vertically Challenged" they were calling themselves.
And labor conditions at the North Pole,
were alleged by the union, to stifle the soul.

Four reindeer had vanished without much propriety,
released to the wilds, by the Humane Society.
And equal employment had made it quite clear,
that Santa had better not use just reindeer.
So Dancer and Donner, Comet and Cupid,
were replaced with 4 pigs, and you know that looked stupid!

The runners had been removed from his beautiful sleigh,
because the ruts were deemed dangerous by the EPA,
And millions of people were calling the Cops,
when they heard sled noises upon their roof tops.
Second-hand smoke from his pipe, had his workers quite frightened,
and his fur trimmed red suit was called "unenlightened".

To show you the strangeness of today's ebbs and flows,
Rudolf was suing over unauthorized use of his nose.
He went to Geraldo, in front of the Nation,
demanding millions in over-due workers compensation.

So...half of the reindeer were gone, and his wife
who suddenly said she'd had enough of this life,
joined a self help group, packed and left in a whiz,
demanding from now on that her title was Ms.

And as for gifts...why, he'd never had the notion
that making a choice could cause such commotion.
Nothing of leather, nothing of fur...
Which meant nothing for him or nothing for her.
Nothing to aim, Nothing to shoot,
Nothing that clamored or made lots of noise.
Nothing for just girls and nothing for just boys.
Nothing that claimed to be gender specific,
Nothing that's warlike or non-pacifistic.

No candy or sweets...they were bad for the tooth.
Nothing that seemed to embellish upon the truth.
And fairy tales...while not yet forbidden,
were like Ken and Barbie, better off hidden,
for they raised the hackles of those psychological,
who claimed the only good gift was one ecological.

No baseball, no football...someone might get hurt,
besides - playing sports exposed kids to dirt.
Dolls were said to be sexist and should be passe.
and Nintendo would rot your entire brain away.

So Santa just stood there, disheveled and perplexed,
he just couldn't figure out what to do next?
He tried to be merry he tried to be gay,
but you must have to admit he was having a very bad day.
His sack was quite empty, it was flat on the ground,
nothing fully acceptable was anywhere to be found.

Something special was needed, a gift that he might,
give to us all, without angering the left or the right.
A gift that would satisfy - with no indecision,
each group of people in every religion.
Every race, every hue,
everyone, everywhere...even you!
So here is that gift, it's price beyond worth...

"MAY YOU AND YOUR LOVED ONES, ENJOY PEACE ON EARTH"

Angel, nice poem.

I usually do my shopping on a Thursday, but tomorrow being Christmas Eve and the Supermarket would be very busy I decided to do my shopping today.

Big surprise as other people had the same idea and the Supermarket was really busy and all the check out's busy with people with trolley' s so full I'm sure they were doing next week's shopping at the same time.

A Holy and a Happy Christmas to you.

Our son is picking us up, so it will be a bit of a crush in the car. smile.gif

well Heather , I got home late last night,
I decided to cut my Christmas break
by a day , because the weather forecast is
for a mayor winter storm happening today ,
first this season , I didn't want to take
any chances getting caught in a big mess
of really nasty weather .
I hope that you had a lovely Christmas as
did I and now this New year coming along
I will be home , all my partying is over
these days . O well , they where great times while
they lasted . Cheers biggrin.gif
Heather
Hi Angel, glad you had a nice time.

We had a lovely Christmas dinner at the Mount Ellen Golf Club where my Niece' husband is a member.
Their son, his wife and wee boy were also there.

It was nice looking out onto all the green field's as the Club dining room has big window's.

Our son and family came round early on Christmas Day and stayed until we got picked up for dinner.

We got a lot of lovely present's and enough boxes and packet's of chocolate's and sweets to keep us going for a few month's.
I might have to join a gym to get rid of all the weight I put on eating all the goodies. laugh.gif

I love going into Joburg. Its always alive, always something happening.
This morning because one of our drivers is still on leave, I delivered a truck load of meat to our main shop in town. This is next to a major taxi station that feeds Soweto and is always busy.
Today is no different, as I pull up I can see the musicians in the spare ground across the street belting out their Karaoke singing and dancing to their music.

The crowd have joined in bopping and jiving in time to the songs. The fact that it is men singing into the microphones and woman's voices coming out of the speakers seems to have escaped them. Old and young they are enjoying themselves heads bouncing feet stamping.
Even the traffic cops have given up trying to give out tickets and have joined in. When I leave two hours later they are still at it. For once I am able to pull away without being taken out by a taxi in a hurry to drop of or pick up more passengers. I turn the corner and drive past the main exit for the taxis without any hassles. around the corner and up onto the double decker highway with hardly any traffic on it.
Even the traffic cops are on holiday and I manage to drive past three of them without being stopped and asked for cool drink money. (bribe)
I love going into Joburg, especially when most of the taxi drivers are on leave and the streets are fairly quiet.

Depends on you Norrie. I had one big fat mamma years ago, who when I told her I had no money. Told me "in that case you can take me out for dinner on Friday" I told her I was a"poor white pensioner who couldn't afford it" I must have been convincing as she let me off with the ticket for one of my headlights not working. laugh.gif

If you get agressive with them they can and will just make up any ticket they want and slap it on your forehead. Thats why a lot of people are fitting dashcameras to their cars now.
Heather
Hey Dave all that dancing and singing sound's good with everyone having a good time.

I am having a lazy day as I took all the Decoration's down on Monday and now the house is back to normal.

Now we will wait for our son and g'son to come over and put the decorations up in the loft. They are all in the spare bedroom and the room looks like a tip with decoration's every where.

Took all the decorations and cards down tonight, the house looks so bare now, but I had to get them down before 12th night. I even changed some of the ornaments around and put up some new ones up, well not exactly new, just out of the box where they were stored away. tongue.gif

Not a lot happening here today except for our Central Heating breaking down.

I phoned British Gas and we can't get a Gas Engineer out until Monday morning. blush4.gif

We have an electric fan heater that blows out heat, but that can only be in one room at a time.
When you go into the hall or upstairs it is freezing.

We had a Gas Engineer out in November for the same reason, but it was only one radiator that was not working, now none are working.

norrie123
Hi Heather, check that your pressure in the boiler is topped up, if its not, nothing will work, I am assuming you don't have hot water either?
I had the same problem when i moved into this house turns out I had a leak in the pipes that's why I lost pressure
Bye for now, norrie
Heather
Norrie, I think that is the same thing my husband was talking about.

No hot water either.

There is a wee clock on boiler and the pointer is at the bottom where it is red.
My husband said as long as it stay's there, we will get no heating.

He was a Plumber & Gas Fitter, now long retired.

I'm consoling myself by opening another box of chocolate's. wink.gif

Reading your posting, about the house being cold going from one room to the other,
reminded me of growing up in Glw with No central heating

Especially when we 1st moved to our new house in Drumoyne
I remember the ice on the inside of the windows, in our bedroom as well

My Mum hated it and always said she missed her room & kitchen and wished she had never moved
We could not paint of Parer for 1 yrs either so the walls were bare white,

But we survived it
I still like to have a cool bedroom to sleep always turned the heating down,
Old habits never die right ?

enjoy your Chocolates biggrin.gif hopefully it will be fixed soon,
cheers ox
,
Betsy2009
I remember my Gran's house. It had a coal fire in the living room and that was it. Any other room was freezing. Having a bath was no fun. Freezing getting in to the bath then freezing again when you got out.

Central heating? What's that?
norrie123
Hi heather there is a tap or some thing like that, under the boiler, ask the Gas Fitter to show it to you and how to top up your system, it will save a call out and you being cold
However if your losing pressure all the time, you may have a leak somewhere

Bye for now, norrie
Heather
Aye Norrie, we have found some water leaking from one of the radiator's.

As if it is not cold enough, it is now snowing and it's coming down thick and fast.
It is melting on the ground, but the grass is pure white. ohmy.gif
