Does anyone have any memories of relatives or friends who were aboard the passenger ship the SS Athenia, which departed Glasgow on Sept. 3, 1939 and was attacked by the Germans on that day. Perhaps a family story has been passed down about a relative or friend who survived this disaster, or maybe lost their life that day. Perhaps someone out there has a story of rescuing the survivors.
I would love to hear from anyone with a story of the SS Athenia, her passengers, her crew, her rescuers, on the day of that disaster. The Glasgow Transport Museum is planning a display about the SS Athenia scheduled for 2009. It would be a great honor for me to be able to pass along any of these stories to the people planning this display. It would be an even greater honor for those with stories to tell to have their loved ones or friends remembered during this display.
As the great granddaughter of Agnes Johnstone MacFarlane who was a stewardess aboard the SS Athenia for years prior to her sinking, I feel a great kinship to anyone connected to the ship in any way. Please contact me at : one4rome@aol.com if you wish to share any stories.
Thank You!
