Funnily enough, I was just thinking about Halloween this evening and organizing for a group of us to go to our village event which seems to be getting bigger every year. The Old Town here is very atmospheric with old church (built in 1140) and scary churchyard. There are cellars too and a ghost walk has been organized. It is great fun, all the restaurants and pubs enter the spirit of it. When I first moved down south, Halloween wasn't really big at all. These days it is anything for a bit of fun, thankfully.
I can't remember being really scared as a child but I do remember looking out of my living room window hoping to see the witches in the sky on their broomsticks. I would have been petrified if I thought I did.
I love this time of year, especially as I now have grandchildren and I look forward to making scary things with them this week when they visit.
I love Bonfire Night locally too - great firework displays and always somewhere to go for food and atmosphere.
In the Old Town we also have a Victorian (Christmas) Evening where people dress up in Victorian dress, there are old fashioned stalls, games etc.
I love the dark nights.
