Extras Wanted - Scots Need Not Apply, World War Z Zombie movie Options

A film which will be shot in Glasgow is getting into a bit of bother because it has asked for extras from many backgrounds but is not really wanting Scottish-looking to apply.... because they want a good mix of ethnic backgrounds. Instead they want Irish and Italian backgrounds, as well as people of Black African, Black Afro Caribbean, Hispanic and Chinese ethnicity.... as long as they can work legally in the UK.

The extras are for an American film called World War Z where Glasgow will be made to look like a city ten years after the world has been ended by a zombie war.

Will you be applying to be an extra? You will get paid £130 per day for up to 10 days!

Im surprised they dont want Scottish looking individuals to apply as, I have seen with my own eyes as I drive through certain areas of Glasgow zombies of various ages and sex,white and pasty faced with a look of the dead in their eyes and an ambling gait known as gouching,bottle of Irn-Bru under the oxter and a supply of Mars bars to boost the sugar level.All of whom would merge seamlessly into this movie.

I can understand the need for the racial diversity as Glasgow is supposed to be Philadelphia in the movie, so there would be more black and asian people on the streets of Phillie, but could anyone tell the difference between white glaswegian, and a white yank (both have beer bellies) and as for Irish, almost half the city claims to be from the emerald isle

I have trouble reconciling myself with what the "ethnic" difference appearance wise may be between Scots and Irish. Which half of me would I consider Irish and which Scottish. I believe Shakespeare had inclination to visit this question in one of his plays. But that was about immortality at one end and mortal at the other.

A ken wit ye are sayin JAGZ and Dunvegan.... perhaps they will be aware of the subtle difference in the spoken word as deftly exampled by my good self here!!

It is an American production though so maybe they think they know the difference because one group will have blue painted faces and be wearing kilts.... while the others will be 2 foot tall and carrying a long pipe!!

Scotsman, The extras won't have any dialogue so accents won't matter, as it is set in Philadelphia there wont be any kilts. I don't have a problem with the makers asking for certain racial type's as extras, as venture's of this kind will bring much needed income to the city, and with Glasgow doubling for Gotham city in the new Batman movie in production (no kilts in Gotham's streets either) it can only help boost Glasgow's image worldwide.

Having friends from J.'burg who emigrated to Aus. after hearing about sleeping with a Browning 5 shot under his bed since he was 18 I hae my doubts about visiting there

I lived in a community with a large proportion of what you call the "chicken run" and have not been told lies. Johannesburg has one of the highest murder rates,street crime and car jacking in the world. I am not just going on what they told me there is a plethora of figures available in the media and internet, combined with a reluctance on the governments part to release figure on crime statistics that do not show them in a favourable light. And please do not dissuade me of the idea of fortress homes in white affluent areas. They have been widely reported in print and visual media.

I wonder why so many are returning? I have no " fortress home" but obviously the visual and print media does`nt lie . If I post a picture of a house in Oz with high walls, what conclusion would you draw? My kids and grandkids live here and don`t seem to have fortress homes either. Perhaps we should read the ozzie news
