Guy Pie (his nickname) was an impresive, for me at anyrate, wee man who worked at clydebridge Steelworks. He introduced me to the Gorbals and the Bonnington Bar. he lived onthe salt market near the mortuary and took me to his local...The Wee Man's.
Quite close to it was a betting shop where we went in to do a Mug's Double. A man was marking the board and a punter sterted argueing with him that he'd got a price wrong, should be 9:1 and not 7:1 . am starin and Guy Pie's pulling me away from the action. Keep to the side Tam and just watch whit's goan oan...then this redhead marches up to the punter, grabs him two handed by the shirt, pushing him a couple of feet, he's shocked, shoutin into his face as she slaps him one on the kisser " Heh gunboy, thats ma brither, He says 7:1 its 7:1.
Guy Pie says, 'it's great here Tam but ye hif tae mine yirsell kid:'
He was right, of course. Hardly a dull moment,

The Bonnington; was that also called the Bunch of grapes or am I confusing it both with each other. Not hard to do when you consider the mess I might have got myself into drinking in them

I thought the "Grapes" was on Crown Street near the junction wi' Rutherglen Road. The Ritz Bar was on Rutherglen Rd just across from St Margarets and St Mungos (a church that was our gang-hut) tongue.gif
