I also went to Crossmyloof Ice Rink every Thursday with my pal. It was quite a journey from Maryhill to get there but I loved it.

I went every Saturday morning in the back of a big furniture van. When the back was pulled down we were in total darkness. What a laugh we used to have. Could you imagine that today.......

I've been wondering about the ice rink at Paisley - is it still there? I used to go there with my pal on Saturday afternoons, that was until I discovered football. From then on the ice skating got more or less dropped but I have good memories of skating at Paisley. It was also quite a long trip for me - from Cadder to Paisley.

I didn't skate in Paisley but used to go there with my Dad to watch the Paisley Pirates play ice hockey. Can't remember who all they played against. It wasn't that far for us to travel but took a long time as we went by tram from Scotstoun to the Renfrew ferry, across on the ferry then another tram or bus into Paisley. rolleyes.gif

Only went to Paisley if Crossmaloof shut for the season.. loved the skating, great times. but fell away from it for a while for some reason at about age 18 and when I went back it had all changed, none of the old crowd there, they must have all outgrown it.. Chris Montez and Lets Dance and we aw went frantic skating fast.... Little Town Flirt with Del Shannon.. SWAK...oh the memories,, I always remember May Neil.. she had her hair dyes black but always wore it lovely.. and had nice figure.. my dream was to get the hipster trousers in Italian stripe with a shirt and red tie hahahaha.. but never did get them..

Used to go to crossmyloof on a regular basis. I was in my teens and one night a kid fell in front of my friend and i. We both managed to jump over the kid but i landed on my knees. I never went to hospital but it hurt for a long while after. When i was 21 i was due for call up. At the medical i was asked if i had any problems not listed on the questionaire. I told them i had a clicking in my knee. Was sent for a medical at the royal infirmary. Was told i had at some time fractured my kneecap and part of it was now rubbing on my knee joint. The dod asked why i had come now to see about it. I told him it was my call up medical. He asked if i wanted to go. Well i was just finishing my apprenticeship and going to earn good money. I did not want to go. The doc passed me as physically unfit. Had operation and never had any trouble after that.
Still playing soccer and until last year was in an over 35 league. This year it is an over 50 league so i am only half as old as the youngest. Thanks to skating at crossmyloof

laugh.gif I reember one night this boy was pulling me round the rink really fast and I stumbled right on to the back of the girl in fronts boot.. as you know theres a pointy bit and it cut just below my boobs and I had to go into the First Aid.. the riddy was that I had on one of the new fangled longline bras.. why I dont know as I was so skinny then.. and the men had to pull it up.. I was mortified and didnt go back for months.. even then my confidence had gone and i was shaking like a leaf.. The cut wasnt bad but it ruined my ever being Jane Torvill.
