Hi Celtchik67, the Caber Feidh [or MacKenzie's as it was also known] was at the corner of Oran Street and Maryhill Road. My Dad used to go there for a pint. Sorry I don't have any pictures of it but will speak to my husband's cousin as he used to work in there as a part-time barman.
I could not believe my eyes to CELTCHIC67 my Wife and I used to live on Fernie St, I started going there on 1952 after I got demobbed from the Royal Navy, we finally managed to get a single end on Fernie St. as for the Caber Feidh it was my local as it was just around the corner from Fernie St,anyway I was in the darts team 1957-1963, little Higgy was the manager and I knew all the bartenders, the darts team were classed as special customers, we won the Glasgow League Trophy Higgy kept it on the gantry behind he bar, we have got two sons who were born on Fernie St, alas it's all gone now no more Fernie,Oran,Vernon Streets, a shame.
Hi maryhillgal, sawyour comment about the Caber Feigh, my Wife and I used to live on Fernie St. I was in the the bar's dart team and we won the Glasgow trophy, I would probably know your cousin, I went there from 1952-1963, we have two Sons who were born on Ferni St

I know the last post was ages ago but if Agnes and Robert are still out there would they remember a Willie Hughes in the Darts team 1957-1963 time?
I can't remember the name off=hand as it was a long time ago, if he played darts in those years, I certainly did know him, our Captain was a tall guy from Dundee, he was a double-top man, Willie Hughes must have been there when we won the Tennets Championship you should have seen wee Higgies face all lit up, the Trophy sat on the Gantry

Willie Hughes was a welder and played darts quite well. He lived at 54 Hathaway St. then moved down to Queens Cross and played for the Star and Garter.

Where did Willie work? I worked in Shaw's Foundry as a Turner, I also played in the Star & Garter a couple of times on a Saturday, I've got to know Willie, It's such a long time ago

Hello again, he was probably known as Wullie Hughes. He served his time in Charlie Connell's shipyard and then he worked in Babcock's and Wilcox Renfrew. He then worked till his retirement with Motherwell Bridge, working all over the place even in Bahrain where his boy is working now. He was a bit of a heavy gambler as well and drank in quite a few pubs in Maryhill. He lived at 905 Garscube Rd. for a while and drank in the Queen's Cross pub and Munn's Vaults. I know he played in the league because he told me about the Sou' Wester having a good darts team. Sadly he passed away 5 years ago next week and I still miss my big brother.

Sorry to hear Willie passed away, I feel that I have lost a great ex dart partner, I wish that I could jog my memory and put faces to names, Willie might have been older than me, I'm not sure,I am 80, the Queen's Cross Pub. I used to play snooker up above the Pub, bye for now Yogihughes, you have brought back some of my fondest memories
