Penny Dainty, think the pub you are referring to is "The Queen's Park Cafe" Mark was a regular there. After his funeral we all adjourned to it. Maggie Bell who sang the theme tune from Taggart was also there. It is situated near to Queens Park gates. Bungalow Cafe hasn't changed it's decor. Babyland is long gone.

Isobel, in those days you would wear silver shoes, even to dance. First dance I went too was in the PLAZA, Most memorable for my bra strap breaking, was dancing a Tango with partner, he birled me round to see the fountain , was 16 years old, what a riddy, wanted to run home.

Thanks Stratson,
I guess I just added the "C" somewhere along the line. B B Cinerama sounds so right, I can just hear Mum saying "aye, that's it, that's the wan". Can you tell us anymore about it? Thanks again, GB

My husband and I, both before and after marriage, spent many a Saturday at the Plaza too Angela, but we were there in the 50s!!! Always had to put on a nice dress and good shoes to go dancing there and thoroughly enjoyed their knickerbocker glories, they were huge
We used to go to the Cameo in Shawlands sometimes.

How I enjoyed the wee trip up Vicky Road. My mother worked for many years in the Plaza. She worked in the soda fountain made those big Knickerbocker Glories. My father would take us to the cinerama on a Friday. Loved to look in the window of babyland now an Indian eating place. No more Kirkwoods loved going in there when I would go home on holiday. I have some eye shadow still that I bought in the bargain shop. Keep it because I bought it in Glasgow. Had a few drinks in the Pandora and would go for ice cream to cafe across fron the Queens Park Cafe. My mother also goes to the Dr. in Butterbiggens Road at the old Samaritain (spelling?) Had a wee look into the cafe at Larkfield garage looked a wee bit shady on our trip last year.
I was born in the Gorbals... My Mammy and Daddy went to the Plaza a lot. We also went to the picture hall next to the Plaza. I later worked at Larkfield Garage as a bus conductress. We moved to Toryglen.. then I left for America... came back a couple of times and worked on the buses. Worked at the Locarno...Had a baby boy at St.Francis Nursing Home in Govan.. I was born at the Southern General. I am now a Doula and birth babies...and want to duplicate the Birth Center that was St.Francis Maternity Home...it was FANTASTIC...and every woman deserves to be treated like a queen when she is pregnant and birthing..
