The first cinema I ever went to was right next to the Plaza Ballroom at Eglington Toll, on the south side of Glasgow. I was about 7 years old and I went with my Uncle Frank and his 2 daughters Sonia and Susanne, we saw Disney's Peter Pan and it was brilliant! biggrin.gif

I can mind going to Eglington Toll to the pictures on a Saturaday night.Didnt they open up the Plaza Ballrooms again as a night club/Was never in there , but I am told it was a great place in its day, with a big fountain in the middle.

Hello P.D>
The plaze used to be a great place for holding special occassion,
My one only time in there was at a 21st Birthday Party,

Yes it had a beautiful fontain in the middlle and people used to really get all dressed up evening wear as they used to call it, Tux and LOng Dresses

I understand it has been closed for a long time now,

The Plaza Ballroom, danced there regularly. Is now demolished and presently constructing Luxury Flats on the site. The Facade is being rebuilt on them. rolleyes.gif
The picture house Marina was THE CINERAMA. it was demolished many years ago and a petrol station replaced it, I believe the ground has been bought and guess what for..............more houses.
I was born and brought up in this district, alas, changes happen, not all for the better.

Wasnt the bus depot right opposite the picture house on the other corner and then the Plaza was just down from there?

Hi Marina,,,I know the cafe you refer too, at present the name escapes me, was the BONINI family who owned it,,,,,now, haven't a clue. My son has just come in and he thinks it was called Joe's. It does not ring any bells for me. dry.gif
Bargain Cabin, was that in Victoria or Cathcart Road??? laugh.gif So many changes I hardly recognise the place.
