QUOTE (Dykejumper @ 9th May 2018, 01:19pm)

There arent many left in Glasgow but the remaining street sellers of the Evening Times have been told
that they will no longer required after July. Apparently they have been informed that they are not what the modern Glasgow wants !! Sad news for anyone who remembers the cries of 'Times/Citizen late edition'
Yes Dykejumper, I remember it very well, especially on a Saturday night, after the football. There were early editions, then the final editions, and the cry went out from the vendors, “Times, News, and C I T I ZEN”.
They always emphasised Citizen.
The Saturday night editions were coloured, pink, white and green respectively. I used to have a wee couple of bob flutter on the horses in those days, so the football results and the racing reports were essential reading.
In those days the News sent cub reporters to do reports on amateur football matches. Their reports were published in a column which ran down the cente of the two middle pages. I remember this because one of them wrote a report of a match I played in. I got a pleasant surprise when I opened the newspaper and saw my name in print. They also used to give the results of all the Glasgow schools football matches. Many of the results were in the order of 8-1, 9-0 etc.
Thanks for reminding me of happy days.
Danny
