Independence really is no fairytale, yet at least the SNP has had these many years to perfect the art of austerity. Ask any council leader.

No one said it was a fairytale, although it will be light years better than your austerity ridden nightmare of a union, and the SNP don't need a lecture about austerity from a LibDem supporter.

You got there in the end. wink.gif

Not against budget cuts personally, where required. And neither are you. Vulnerable people and families, the frail and elderly, homeless and unemployed among us should be protected groups, as a rule.

Independence however, which I view as a purely political project giving power to the politicians not protection for the people, isn't that.

Got where in the end?

You're making things up again, i've never said i'm in favour of budget cuts.

Your Westminster governments have never protected "vulnerable people and families, the frail and elderly, homeless and unemployed" so why do you think they'd have a sudden change of heart now?

And of course regaining our independence is political, but at least the politicians we give the power to will be accountable to us and, and unlike now if they don't do a good job they will be out at the next election, so why do you want us to remain under the rule of the Westminster cabal who have proven time and time again that they couldn't care less about protecting the people?

...constitutional constipation is independence. yes.gif

There will be much we can agree on. Independence however, which I view as a purely political project giving power to the politicians not protection for the people, isn't that.

Not saying such outcomes won't produce their own set of difficult challenges, but it will at least wipe clean the constitutional constipation of the last decade.

The LibDems are part of the "constitutional constipation of the last decade" or had you forgotten about the five years that they were in coalition voting in draconian budget cuts and policies with the Tories?

The only guaranteed way to rid ourselves of Westminster constitutional constipation is independence. yes.gif

I must have just imagined that you've been singing the praises of the LibDems and their wonderful leader over every other party then? unsure.gif
