Hi Pat and a warm welcome to the board.
You must have been reading my opening post to the topic 'My Garngad Family History' where I talked about my maternal grandparents - the Connollys - being relocated from Garngad to Dinwiddie Street, Germiston around 1933.
http://discuss.glasgowguide.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=5129My Connolly grandparents - Mick and Sarah - married in 1923 and had 11 children:
Michael, Jack, Elizabeth, Sadie, Benny, Margaret, Mary, Bridget (Theresa), Ann (my mum), Jessie and Alec.
I think that was pretty much the order they were born in. My mum was born in 1937 so you are a few years older than her. I suspect you must have been at school with some of my mum's older siblings.
You mentioned that one of my mum's brothers became a bookmaker. That was Michael, the first born of the family, born around 1924. I think he owned 3 bookmakers shops in Glasgow in the 1950s and early 1960s. One was in the Gallowgate, another was in Renfield Street. I can't remember where my mum said the other one was. My Uncle Michael died in a boat crash in Spain in the early 1960s. My mum and her brother Benny worked for Michael in the bookies.
You mentioned a McCaig family from Germiston. My Aunt Mary married a Frank McCaig. I am not sure if this is the same McCaig family. I know my Aunt Sadie married a Joe McManus from Germiston.
I will ask my mum if she remembers you and any of the other families you have mentioned. My mum was about 8 years old when the family was relocated from Dinwiddie Street, Germiston to Stamford Street, Barrowfield so I don't know how much she will remember of Germiston.
