Balmore Road
I could drink in four cheap pubs
Then walk to the end of the city,
I could stop to light a candle and pray
And stand by the canal that’s dead & dirty.
I could catch four different buses
To take me to the end of the world,
I could cross two bridges without any fear
And disappear into the graveyard forever.
Daniel McDonagh

Between the Stars
Between the stars and the River Clyde
A path appears when the moon is bright,
And rising from their sleep, awake the Glasgow souls
And descend onto the path of silver and gold.
And Glasgow’s daughter walks on the riverbed,
With an emerald crown upon her head,
From beneath the water she waves goodbye,
As the stars disappear from the midnight sky.
Daniel McDonagh

Glasgow’s Mythical Daughter
The loch looked like a child, soft and at peace,
As the sun sank from the roasted sky,
I waited for harmony to rise from the water,
An introduction to Glasgow’s beautiful daughter.
From a shadow on the water, a woman appeared,
Her face covered in a silken cloth,
She lived in a myth, as she was ageless,
I uncovered the cloth to find my daughter faceless.
Daniel McDonagh

Hillend Street
The cement hill looked buckled and warped,
Cars parked on a slope,
I rolled a penny down the path;
A thousand children descended to kill.
Daniel McDonagh

In the Canal
In the canal,
The lonely canal,
The dark night whispers,
Stars smile,
Rain tickles
And Glasgow sleeps for a promise.
Daniel McDonagh
