Two losers

Two national leaders whose Parties lost their referendum and then their majorities after they took over, and who would rejoice if the other lost her job.

Yet I have to admire and respect their personal Brexit struggles of late in the face of no-win situations.

Both women suffered not only defeat but have had to subsequently carry two electorates that could hardly be more bitterly polarised and divided with a sense of discontentment that lurks wherever they turn. The resulting Politics ties their hands and both now find themselves being carried on turbulent currents into positions not of their own choosing where the water is deep and dark and safe land looks remote.

Still they kick with their competing legs and manage to stay afloat, but with every move they risk Political isolation in every possible way. Last weekend FM Sturgeon made it all the way in front of huge cheering crowds at London's Parliament Square where she argued for a people's vote, which she hopes would put a stop to Brexit but would thereby sink her own Party's desire for a second Indyref. And last week PM May once more dutifully shuttled to talks with EU and UK Politicians, and once more her supporters both public and political on every side fell further away despite her giving up whatever ground she had left.

I don't envy but I do appreciate their commitment to the Brexit cause. Who will win I wonder, and at what cost? huh.gif

Mrs May's days are numbered but sadly the Selfie Quuen will be with us for a while yet, At least I can hopefully look forward to her being called as a witness in Wee Eck's court case.

Every time this Brexit deal gets served up I keep thinking about the joke Billy Connolly made about Mexican food, about it being the same stuff but wrapped up in different ways.

I thought I couldn’t get any more angry about the current shenanigans but the sheer arrogance of the ERG, typified by MP Mark Francois this morning, has dispelled that. The parliamentary process has fluctuated between being monstrous and comedic, what is clear is it’s developed a life of its own and no longer fulfills it job of representing the electorate.

Nicola wasn't the party leader at the 2014 referendum so hasn't suffered a defeat.

More Britnat deflection nonsense. wink.gif

Both on the losing side in Governments that lost the argument and subsequently their majority with these two as leader.

Losers. And yet they are both realists, who appear to understand the limits of their power, which is maybe more than can be said of some of their male colleagues.

It said "Both women suffered not only defeat", not the parties, and if your talking about the last Holyrood election then Mrs May would love the percent of first past the post seats the SNP won with a record number of votes, the D'Hondt system makes the fact that they even had a majority in 2011 even more remarkable. wink.gif
