I had a bit of trouble opening GG boards a minute or two ago and received a Trojan Horse infection warning which showed the source;
Url: http:// pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js//show_ads

I've disinfected the thing on my PC..
First time I've had that on the boards.

That's a fine start to Year 2 on the GG Boards biggrin.gif tongue.gif

As soon as I tried to open GG Boards my computer let out a kind of scream and a wee window opened, courtesy of my Kaspersky Security Programme, saying don't open this link due to Trojan Horse. So I opened Kaspersky and it gave me the details and what I should do ie Press disinfect
If that failes then I press Quarantine and it's put in there.
I'm no smarter than you are on these things; usually I have a wee palpitation before I think ok what do I press now? unsure.gif rolleyes.gif

I got the same thing when I opened up GG a few minutes ago. I clicked on 'disinfect' and then the message came up 'cannot be disinfected. Next I tried 'Quarantine' and that seemed to go through. However, it keeps coming up, I go through the whole thing again, then a couple of seconds later it returns. It has only come up once since I started to type this so I'm keeping my fingers crossed this time.

Otherwise..........H E L P..

There have been a couple of, what I think were, suspicious posts here recently. The one about the weather in London and another about pancakes, both have links to external sources. When I see one like that I just don't open the link. I think it has been mentioned before but AVG gives excellent virus protection and it's free (although they will try to sell the premium versions) and Zone alarm does the same with it's fire wall.

Thanks Ashfield. Feels like my birthday biggrin.gif

That's a shrewd observation about suspect posts. I've always wondered if GG had a general kind of Security Program to protect itself against cyber attacks, if such a thing is possible and the "Weather" post who claimed to be Jugoslavian had a weather link ending in " .be " which I take to be Belgium;
.de being Germany. I did give that some thought but obviously not enough.
I wonder if Elma opened that link. I don't think I did; but at that time in the morning ... I still don't think I did.

There isn't a problem here I'm pleased to say: looks like a false alarm generated by the Google adverts scripting, THH's link points to that, but thanks to you for raising it as a possible issue.

Ashfield's caution is well-placed as both topics were spam. If someone posts a link in their first ever post, it is more than likely spam. Almost all of the time it is not a danger though; the poster is just trying to accumulate links for search engine ranking benefit. Best not to click the links in such cases though.

GG.

Hmmm, my AV (Avast) didn't pick that up at all, but I tell you, it's a very good thing to point out, never click on a link you feel could possibly be spam. GG pointed out another good piece of advice, "If someone posts a link in their first ever post, it is more than likely spam".

Good advice for my inquisitive mind that I musn't forget.

Thank you.

Beware of false positives, webpages / applications can run on various scripts and on the odd occasion can throw up a wobbly that's flagged as "trojan."

Rule of thumb, if you can trust the site it is generally OK.

Beware of *rapware / warez / dodgy sites that ask you to download and run any .exe type files and "unusual scripts." These are often spyware / crapware and in some instances harmful to you stored data and can even have rootkit / key logging crapage that passes data to other parties. So if yer bank account is emptied this is how scumbuckets script kiddies do it.

Thankfully there are new security measures coming on stream, so kiddies playing with keyloggers are in for a reaming.

No like anywan here visits them places...

Thanks for the heads up on the trojan THH and the others.

I've had this happen too, but as GG stated there's nothing wrong with the site and, I agree when the site is trusted is generally ok.

But for those who don't know it can give a bit of a start.

Glad GG explained.
