What was your first job and wage ?

My first job when I left school was as a store boy at JC Bennets in Petershill Rd Springburn. I was paid Four pound ten shillings a week.

Started at F Miller textiles in Renfrew St. made 2/10 shillings. Moved on to WD & HO Wills and made over a fiver wow!!!! a went oan ma ain can. Goat 40 fags every thursday. Ma Mum said when I started dating Bob well thats ma fags gone noo, ot on yer life MUm I know you look and wait for them every week

started deliverin ginger (van boy) wae strathmore springs in auld argyll st. moved on tae bigger things laugh.gif worked fur auld henry heally (great man) in the late 60s. ended up in the buildin trade sad.gif

my first job was an assistant in the hospital were my mammy was, someplace outside bearsden ( any biddy know the name) don't remember how much I made but I do know I had to give up most of it for my keep huh.gif . Left home not long after that, not because of it.

my first job was in galt the furriers above the bank of scotland in union street.i managed to leave school at 14 as i turned 15 during the summer holiday,that was in 1970.my wages were the grand total of £5.75 a week. back then white tights were in,they cost 15p from stead and simpsons. a pair of shoes on sale could cost £1 .i always remember my sewing teacher at school saying i was useless and there i was sewing for a living,well it just shows you teachers dont know everything. bye
