I'm a big fan of the radio. Local, national and international. Tonight I'm listening to BBC Radio 2's special celebration of Friday Night is Music Night. Today is 2day on R2 and all the presenters are taking part. It's live. It's on right now until 9pm. It's light entertainment..nothing heavy.

That website is great, Dexter. A lot of the songs I had totally forgotten about, but the moment I read their titles, I could remember all the words!

I loved a Sunday, when we came back from churchand Family Favourites would be on. It was followed by Billy Cotton and his Band Show. He would yell, "Wakey, wa -a - key!" and then the show would start. And do you remember the Clitheroe Kid? I really loved his shows.

All on Sunday; Clithero kid, Round the Horne. ( Kenneth Williams as Rambling Sid Rumphole;" I'll just have a gander in me nadger bag") The Navy lark "Able Seaman Goldstien chatting already". And the everlasting Goon Show. It was still playing in Hong Kong into 1999 at least and in Australia into the 90s. Remember Radio Luxemburg with "Your quiz inquisitor Michael Miles. The Lyon Family. Journey into Space. There was a serial cowboy show as well. Then T.V. came and although it was seen as an educational tool without peer. It just became a dumbing down tool for making us buy and buy what we didn't need or particularly want. Nowhere except in books could the imagination be stimulated to the extent it was on radio. I can still to this day see in my mind's eye all the characters from those shows.
