Every Saturday, my friend and I would go into town to spend our pocket money in Woolworth. We would buy notebooks, pens etc. then, later, when we were young teenagers, we would spend our money on Miners make up or Yvette, Woolie's own brand.

Found this picture, Sauchiehall Street but before my time.

Bought my first piece of juglary from Woolies huge big ring emerald stone on, after a few days my finger was the same colour Ah! the wonder of Woolies gonna miss !

I remember one teacher at school , who told 'us girls' if we didn't concentrate on our shoolwork and try harder , we would end up working in Woolworths as one of their counter girls . There was quite a few of us ,who thought that would be wonderful ,and she wasn't best pleased when we asked , do you really think so miss, with wide smiles on our faces laugh.gif . I think it a real shame Woolies is closing , been in the high street for years sad.gif .

Used to buy my Christmas presents when I was about 6 or 7 in the Woolies on Paisley Road!! Spent my pennies on peanuts served from a big bin and put into a "poke". I moved away in 1973 and had a job which involved a lot of traveling. On my first trip to Spain, my boss's wife was with us and we went out to dinner. Very posh, so I was wearing by best necklace. Boss's wife kept raving about my lovely necklace!!! Little did she know it came from Woolies and I still wear it today. Oh, and it hasn't turned my neck green!!!

It was Mouldy Old Dough by Lieutenant Pigeon. (Ho the shame).
Woolies was a great shop, Loved the penny mix. Too much.

Loved woolies. We used tae go tae prestwick every year on holiday and the first place my sister and i went wis woolies. In later years i used to inspect the lifts in woolworths and installed the lift in woolies on byres road

Wollies was always the 1st place you though of when you needed something.
Purplefan, I loved Mouldy Old Dough..... at the time. !st record I ever bought , from Woolies of course, was In the Summer Time by Mungo Jerry, which went on to swap for Band of Gold by Freyda Paine. laugh.gif Mary

The Woolies I remember was in Shawlands, Sweeties Footballs and Tennis Raquets were my main purchases, what was the woolies brand name? Winfield or something?
