Every Saturday, my friend and I would go into town to spend our pocket money in Woolworth. We would buy notebooks, pens etc. then, later, when we were young teenagers, we would spend our money on Miners make up or Yvette, Woolie's own brand.
Found this picture, Sauchiehall Street but before my time.

I remember one teacher at school , who told 'us girls' if we didn't concentrate on our shoolwork and try harder , we would end up working in Woolworths as one of their counter girls . There was quite a few of us ,who thought that would be wonderful ,and she wasn't best pleased when we asked , do you really think so miss, with wide smiles on our faces . I think it a real shame Woolies is closing , been in the high street for years .

Used to buy my Christmas presents when I was about 6 or 7 in the Woolies on Paisley Road!! Spent my pennies on peanuts served from a big bin and put into a "poke". I moved away in 1973 and had a job which involved a lot of traveling. On my first trip to Spain, my boss's wife was with us and we went out to dinner. Very posh, so I was wearing by best necklace. Boss's wife kept raving about my lovely necklace!!! Little did she know it came from Woolies and I still wear it today. Oh, and it hasn't turned my neck green!!!
