This wiz my fantasy shop when I was young , deep piled carpets, fancy counters with roses painted on them and golden chairs to sit on.. felt like a princess.. upstairs was the cafe and showhouse that took you into another dimension of style we hadnt seen before in Glesga... The Xmas grotto was the best Ive ever seen, Im sure they were trained in the US as it was so good.. even better than Lewiss another lovely shop at Xmas.. never be another shop like it in Glasgow and sad to see it close.

I remember the great Christmas grotto too. Our mum used to take us there every year for our school uniforms then off to Clarks or Bayne and Ducketts for our school shoes!

Wow, thanks. Didn't know that it was in such a state. Such a shame. I haven't been in that bit of town for a long time.

Goldbergs was the nicest shop I was ever in and I've been in a lot of them in The USA, Canada and other places. Their merchandise was stylish, great quality and selection too. When I went there I felt like I was in a really classy place. I missed it when I left. Sorry it's gone.

I too remember Goldbers and their great Christmas displays.............also loved Wrygges when I was a bit older and earning a wage....I still have a coat dress with the Wrygges label and I will never throw it out......still very functional (if I was a stone lighter) !
One day I'll fit into it.......:-)

I must have been thick or just naive when I was young, for I never was in Goldbergs, didn`t even know what street it was in,for the general understanding was that you needed a "line",to get in the door, and as I didn`t know anyone in such an exalted position to give me a line,I always thought it was a closed shop to me. Sadly I made it in the door when I was back on holiday in 1990,that was the closing down sale,my first and last, and another icon gone.

Would love to see any of the Goldbergs interiors when it was new I have a Goldbergs child's mannequin, she must have been used in the children's department or maybe the windows.
