I also saw Jack Milroy in the record shop on Sauchiehall Street( don´t recall the name) about 20 years ago - I gathered he was a regular there.

When I was younger and a budding musician I used to busk in Sauchiehall Street with a mate called Tony on Banjo. We were playing in front of a shop window one day when Chic Murray appeared, stopped right in front of us, started tapping his foot and seemed to be listening intently.

As we played Tony whispered, 'Chic Murray's here, launch into a medley and keep it going, he might get us somewhere - I think he likes us.'

Jeezus I played till my fingers nearly fell aff, all through it Murray stared at us, we must have kept it going for about ten minutes before running out of tunes to string together. We stopped. Murray walked forward and I thought 'This is it! Stardom beckons!'
He looked at us both and said 'That was excellent lads. Now would you move over and let me see the price o' that coat in the shop windae.'

LOL he was so droll , but a comic genius as you said Melody.
Mind you i dont think he was a gent in his home life , his biography is an eye opener so i believe.

Chic Murry's genius was apparent in Gregory's Girl; my self like most others was waiting with baited breath for him to come up with a punch line but he never did. I'm still waiting wondering if I missed it. He played the heidmaister with a penchant for cream buns.

Chic had a saying when in Rome do as the Romans do.any bun in a storm he liked the following buns

Glasgow Buns
Edinburgh Buns
Dundee Buns
Paisley Buns
Aberdeen Buns
Inverness Buns
could go on for hours but when he was in Forfar he liked a Brideeee.

The last bun he had was a Leith Bun went to a friends house in Edinburgh went to bed and nrver woke up again.. wub.gif

I met Chic and his wife they used to come to my Grandfathers house when they played at Queens Music Hall Watson Street and the Metropole Music Hall Stockwell Street Glasgow unsure.gif Chic was a giant of a man and his wife was very small..

I can remember him saying to me we are know as McNaughton and Rotten I'm no telling you who is known as Rotten..

I was driving this morning when I saw an R.A.C van parked up. The driver was sobbing uncontrollably and looked miserable I thought to myself that guy is heading for a breakdown. wub.gif
