Margaret - your mention of black jello like soap reminds me of 'Green Soft Soap' - it came in a bucket, real gooey, dark green stuff - until I came to Canada in '51 it was my regular shampoo - had a sort of pine scent - you just scooped some into a saucer - can remember my Mum always saying 'now remember to rinse well' and a dash of vinegar went into the final rinse.

Anyone remember "Friday night's Amamie (think that's the spelling) Night" I begged for a bottle but no way! Funny thing too - we bred Scottish Terriers - they were bathed in it......never had any problems with ticks and fleas!

Ye jist mentioned Amami, and ah cood see it and smell it! Nice light green, creamy stuff wisn't it? Loved that smell! Sort of minty and aromaticky. Make Friday night Amami wave set night. Hard tae believe we only washed oor hair wance a week and dried it bae the fire. Then we goat intae washin it every day. Noo ahm slippin back intae only washin it a couple of times a week because my scalp is so dry. Shood check oot and see if they still sell Amami.

I read that Glasgow is catchng up to Paris in fashion shows. Anyone remember a dress store at the Round Toll. I think it was called McDonalds - could be wrong. My mother bought some lovely dresses from them during the 1930's. Sometimes she would go down town but she always found what she wanted in that store.

Lol when I was just young and starting out in my nursing career we used that gooey soft green soap a lot, it was mixed with two pints of warm soapy water and used as an enema.I did not and still dont like the smell of it, association of ideas perhaps, hee!You will be glad to know it is not used any more.
