That road also has several European Big Issue sellers, who would have thought we would ever have had to bring in people to sell that magazine.

'We' didn't, they came over and someone found a loophole in the rules that classed them as self employed, this allowed them to claim all sorts of benefits as their 'earnings' were so low. Word got round and they flooded in.. I cant remember how long its been since i seen a Scottish big issue seller, the pitches where you would see the same guys became occupied by these people we keep getting told we need in the country

However it is not a criminal activity. What are the statistics that back up what you say about "most" make more than most honest taxpayers. There may be organised beggars but there are an awful lot who beg out of necessity. It is like the folk who decry welfare because there are a few who cheat.

My mother and father were pensioners in Scotland. I don't need statistics as there have been extensive media reports on this "profession". My mother always insisted she was adequately provided for and was able to save from her pension. These are two individuals like tens of thousands of others in Scotland who had no recourse to begging. In fact the idea of begging was and is to the majority of Scots on welfare extremely distasteful if not downright disgraceful. Bear in mind I also experienced extreme poverty in the slums of Glasgow.

The only beggars then were those who had lost limbs in whatever war. Both my parents and theirs survived depression and war with no recourse to street begging. Nor did they partake of self medication over providing food and shelter for their families.

I work in the Argyle St area. Around 9am every morning the "East" European professional beggars appear. On Friday one lot of five disembarked from a large 4 by 4 type vehicle then about 5 minutes later the Big Issue sellers got out of a similar vehicle. Now the beggars have minders they seem to keep in contact with by mobile phone. This is all very sophisticated. Not your usual spare a 50 p for a cup of tea locals. I would love to know exactly what they are up to and where they living. Street begging I witness off the Argyle St area is quite a lucrative affair.

I wonder if any part of this relates to 'modern slavery', i.e. not so much 'minders' more 'pimps' forcing them onto the streets instead of providing promised jobs.

Its odds on that they live in Govanhill or Govanhell as some of the indigenous locals call the area.La Sturgeon is the MSP , needless to say she lives miles away in a leafy suburb.

I was told today by one of the "Scottish" beggar types at the car park at St Enoch Centre that the bulk of the "East" Europeans are Roma people who work as a family or "clan". Apparently they move "pitches". There is always a "lookout" looking after maybe 5 or 6 of them.

That is a disgusting slander on an upright and honourable sector of Scottish society. Did those figures come from the Socialist/Anachro Syndaclist Alliance or did they fall like manna from heaven from the P.C. brigades grab basket of convenient lies.

I was reading an interesting article the other day which actually put out the point that beggars might find it hard to even take donations as we head towards a cashless society.

I think we're a while away from that, but it was a real eye opener!

Google What? Nonsense? Population of Scotland; 5.3 million. Pensioners 879 500. (Herald Glasgow).

The bigger the lie the more you many find to believe it. But as the saying goes "You can't fool all of the people all the time. According to your rubber figures over 100% of Scottish pensioners are living in poverty. According to your figures this is about 20.2% of all of Scotland's population. As I said before; where did you derive these comedy maths and statistical irrelevances.
