HI All,

I came from Phoenix Park Terrace off Dobbies loan, does anyone remember the 3d (penny) rush to the wee Endrick picture Hoose aff the Garscube Rd on Saturday afternoon. Sitting there eating if you had any sweets and the usher spraying eveyone one with Flea powder or Disinfectent/ Those were the days.

I lived in Sawfield Place, where the Endrick was.

There was always a big queue for the Saturday matinee, but I don't remember ever getting sprayed with anything. So I missed all the fun. laugh.gif

Hi Heather,

If you sat at the front oan the benches there were na individual seats you got sprayed. I came from Phoenix Park Terrace and then Raglan St. Even at night you got in for 7 d and the long walk doon the stairs to the Toilet fare took it out yer wee legs.
Great times

Hudggy

Hudggy, we left Sawfield Place whilst I was still at school. We moved to Barlanark, so maybe that's why I missed the spraying.

I remember Phoenix Park Terrace and Raglan Street. The Terrace was practically behind the Phoenix/Endrick.

We used to do the 'leaps' around the backs of P.P. Terrace and Corn St. laugh.gif

Hi Heather,
Maybe we know each other Heather I used to go around with a mate of mine who stayed in Garscube Rd. Round the corner from you not Griffins corner the other I think it was the first close Freddy McGowan do you know him.
We used to do all the jumps terr corn st and any others we could find. The old wall where the jumps were in PP is still standing below the canal that was the backcourts my house was on 14 PP.

Regards Hudggy (Rab)

Hudggy, I don't recognise the name. My own name was Curran.
I had 3 brother's but I think they were older than you.

Only knew Griffin's Pub as that was on the corner of Sawfield Place & Garscube Rd.

My husband came from Townsend St. before his family moved to Easterhouse. His name is O'Brien and he had 5 brothers, 4 of them younger than him. They all went to St. Aloysius School.

Hi Tommy, I remember when the Endrick was called the Phoenix.
A Mr Dunn bought it, and changed the name to the Endrick.

I don't know the cinema but I think the disinfectant spray mentioned in some posts might have been Chromessol. It is my recollection that the product was more perfume than disinfectant but it seemed to sell very well.

Chromessol was made by a Glasgow company called Wallace Cameron and Co which started out in Shields Road and then moved to Drakemire Drive in Castlemilk. The company has since moved again but I am pretty sure that they are still making the spray along with a range of industrial hygiene and first aid products.

Matt.63, I think I found a photo of it - just before it was demolished in 1972, then named the Phoenix...is this it?
