I remember the Grand Central.. I saw my first X movie there, The Wayward Wife with Gina Lollobrigida in 1955.

That was The Classic, later the Curzon Classic, I believe. I saw a few movies in both those place, mainly French or Italian, although none of them could be remotely described as "adult" nowadays.

Sophia Loren did some adult movies but as you say nothing like now..I think Carlo Ponti put a stop to them being seen.
