An interesting read. My dad was a joiner on the QE2. Like the gentleman in the first posting, he is a very proud man for being a part of the QE2 and a I'm proud daughter of him.

My dad was from Leeds and alot of men worked on the ship from all over the country. He is suffering from Asbestosis and it isnt localised to scottish ship builders.

His stories of the goings on on the QE2 are interesting. Being from England he and his colleagues endured significant threats and bullying because they were English. I read someone said that it was an exaggeration that the ship could have been built twice over due to the theft and pilfering. My dad has always maintained this. He was witness in the ballroom when the wurlitzer organ was stolen. carpets, tools. Their work was damaged because they wanted rid of English workers, so materials had to be replaced. The strikes, the demand for the rail fares to go to England - the ones they hated - to get work when the job was over. He has always said it cost more than double due to criminal activity mainly imposed by unions.

Im helping him with his asbestos claim. Should I be surprised that all records of the company he worked for dont exist? There is lots of evidence that his company worked on the ship, but no offical records. Funny that. If they can let an organ be stolen they are hardly going to keep records.

Its a tragedy that the most proud job of his life is the very thing that will take his life.
