The late Denis Healey

Asked about his thoughts about claims that Scotland being subsidized by England he reminded the questioner that Joel Barnett, (he of the Barnett formula), was his deputy at the Treasury at the time the share of the national income pot Scotland should receive was decided.

He added:

” Scotland pays more than its fair share and these myths are simply perpetuated to cloud the issue by those that are opposed to independence.”

Yes, I read that report. As the police didn't release any details of their identity, can you point me in the direction of where it says they were EU immigrants?

Do you seriously think Scottish homeless beggars are getting on a train to Carlisle?you know fine well its Romanians and/or Czech Republicans, its not just here, they are at it all over the EU from Oslo to Paris. When those scumbags tried to sell a woman outside Primark did you think for even one minute
that it was Scots involved.

Denis healy ! now there's a Silly Billy, couldnt even beat Michael Foot in an election for Leader.
That of course was well after he had had to beg money from the IMF.Ironicaly he was turfed out
of office when the Nats supported the Tories in 1979.

So you don't know for sure, but don't let facts get in the way of your wee story. In the meantime, I suggest you google "casual racism", you might learn something (but probably not)

Dykejumper: You are clearly of an old vintage.

It was indeed unfortunate the Labour Party chose to take the "Bevan" route with the appointment of Michael Foot who started the process that led to the demise of the Party. The Party would have been much better served under the leadership of Denis.

His begging bowl approach to the IMF was rendered necessary through the incompetence of other chancellors before he took up office and it bears no semblance to the nearly 3trillion borrowing of the Tory Party.

The Callaghan government was brought down by in-fighting within the Party who tumbled that Sunny Jim was an unmitigated disaster as Prime Minister and undermined his authority to the extent that he could not function as the leader of the Party and Prime Minister. The SNP had nothing to do with the downfall of the labour party

Oh dear, how many times do you Britgnats have to show yourselves up in public, you are either too thick to take in the facts that you have been repeatedly given over the last forty years or you are a liar, so what is it DJ?

Get someone to read Jim Callaghans biography 'Time And Chance' to you, at no time did he lay any blame at the feet of the SNP for his hapless governments downfall, and i assume you're old enough to remember why many people will never forget the betrayal of Scotland his government perpetuated on us with their riddiculous 40% devolution disgrace.

On the other hand, if there'd been a 40% rule for Brexit 62.56% of the electorate of the UK would have been counted as supporting REMAIN (just as it was for real in Scotland) and we wouldn't be in this mess you seps have helped to create. yes.gif

I'll pass on the biography but i did like this quote from sunny Jim.

He said of the minority parties such as the SNP: “It is the first time in recorded history that turkeys have been known to vote for an early Christmas.”

The Nats lost most of their MPs at the subsequent election.

And forty years later the SNP are the largest and most popular party in the country while Labour are down among the "minority parties" in Scotland, and they'll be lucky to have one MP after today.

I don't know about Labour turkey's voting for Xmas, but their Goose will be well and truly cooked today. laugh.gif

This is getting too easy. wink.gif

Will be interesting to see the percentage of the eligible people who actually vote.

It will indeed Zascot, as this will be the third Westminster GE in four years there may be a bit of voter apathy coming into play.

I have nothing but disdain for people who do not use their vote. They get what they deserve, and then have the affront to complain!

There exists in Scotland a small group of Ultra Unionists who were originally the foundation of the group – Scotland in Union

This group was highlighted in a leaked Email which provided contact details for a few people and a message from their erstwhile leader telling them to keep their plans very strangely secretive.

You see, these ultra unionists have a plan – this plan has been going on for a year or so thus far and it is this – They take it in turns to Blitz every single newspaper every week with dozens of letters about their opinions on just how TERRIBLE life in Scotland is under the dreadful SNP.

And these people are being published in many of the mainstream newspaper letters pages very successfully…The Editors seeing the same names popping up all the time are patently complicit in this.

On twitter that one chap – Keith Howell of Peeblesshire had around 20 “Letters of the Day” published – some gaining 50 from the likes of Barrhead Travel.
