What Thatcher did to Scotland was an act of bloody minded revenge for a country that never regarded her party as anything but English aristocrats, involved in running the British entity for the benifit of the English home counties. She elevated the button pushers to the status of crafts men and craftsmen to the status of day labourers. A mean minded uneducated plutocrat whose ofspring became sleazy merchants of death in Africa, and who boasted of not reading books, other than the Bible and some obscure tracts by right wing fanatics.

I am no socialist, but in light of what happened in creating generational unemployment, a term unknown until the 'she' won power and proceded to consolidate industry well south of the Tweed, I am also of a mind to hate this mediochre imposition on a once proud but no longer separate nation.

The reason Scotland was a testing ground was because there were no Tory MPs, so Thatcher had nothing to lose. No Tories were going to lose their seat

I was born in Scotland and proud of it but I think Margaret Thatcher was right in everything she did.

As for todays society, well, look at the state of Britain now (I omit the word Great as it's no longer Great) I voted Labour when Tony Blair was up for election and I think it was the WORST thing I ever did.

NEW LABOUR RUINED Britain... that is why the Tory/Lib government of today have to make drastic choices and cutbacks... they HAVE TO clear up the MESS Labour left us in.

Tony Blair was the biggest culprit in my eyes, he left Gordon Brown deep in s*** and he knew it. Tony Blair is the one I hate... not Thatcher!

I sincerely hope David Cameron does manage to 'fix' Britain then things can get back to normal.

Have a great day folks...... smile.gif

If it wasn't so infantile it would be funny. This guy Tiefenburn has obviously managed to secure a tory nomination by playing the old rhetoric card. You only have to watch the tory conference to see the stupid old purple rinse brigade clap and stamp when some numpty rants on about some old English Colonial nonsense. I often feel the best way to respond to these fools is not to get all upset and rant as this gives them some kind of perverse importance, but to belittle and ridicule their stupid comments and lack of political substance. Obviously the good people of Maryhill and surrounding area showed the Torys what they felt about this buffoon.

I have always lived here.I didn't leave when Thatcher stripped the Lower Clyde of the yards. I re-skilled and moved that too has gone.
I watched as she poured Million and Millions of pounds ....( our pounds ) into building a Power Station at Inverkip for the sole purpose of breaking the Miners' strike she knew she would be facing.
I also watched as the components from that same Power Station .....which hardly struck a blow.....were packaged up,put on ships and sold off abroad......Oil fired ,don't you know !!
Mrs Thatcher and George Dubya Bush are both of the same mould..........lights on but no bugger in.......They in themselves have NO IDEA about poverty ,lack of employment , and all the other myriad of ills that befall normal's the grey men at the back of them that we should direct our attention to
They do not come and go as our well beloved politicians do........these guys are PERMANENT
.....and there's another rash of them right here in Scotland. Perhaps it would be better to draw two lines under Maggie and her likes.......and save your wrath for the " Organisations" and "Benefactors" that REALLY call the shots

Thatcher never set out to be liked which is just as well as she didn't have many likeable qualities.

Having said that, the Labour government of the past 13 years have done at least as much lasting damage to the morale of this country as Thatcher did. The Labour party by their actions (or inactions) is allowing vast swathes of the country to wallow in a state of victimhood and see ourselves a nation of Rab C. Nesbitt's.

Three cheers for the Red, White and Blue !

Most politicians are in it for themselves, awright Thatcher done Scotland wrong years back, but Labour has had control of scotland for 70 years and look what they have done, not much, why do people hate the Tories, well its because there dad hated them and there grandad hated them, just like aw these daft Rangers and Celtic supporters who hate each other, blame the parents, there is too much hate today.

I do not hate the tories or Thatcher. Hate is a negative emotion I would be more positive in opposition to tory policies. I was living and working in England when Thatcher was on the throne and was directly concerned with some of her destrucctive policies which caused some of the problems that we have in our society to this day. I wonder if Mr Cameron accepts that Thatcherism was the cause of the loss of working class morals and perhaps trying to redress this by his advocating what he terms the
" bigger society" It is not only in Scotland where there has been a lowering of standards her actions caused ethical morbidity among the working class in England too.

I heard thatcher was to have a "STATE" funeral .....I was not happy about that other then she had died Then I was told that was only a preview of the future

My mother thought it great to have a woman in that post BUT never bought her council house and was annoyed when her grandson did 'cos it was cheaper than renting . All the things she thought would change (Equal pay for women) never did and still haven't .

This latest edition is a mealymoothed son of thatcher and I wish he would stop[ using that puir wean as a photo shoot He just might regret doing that ......

I dont like what the tories or thatcher did, but the difference between thatcher & cameron, maggie did not tell us any lies, she just went ahead and shafted us. I dont know if I am right but I honestly dont trust Cameron or the Libdems, the Libdems have conceded everything they stood for in the election just to have a bit part in a goverment that will show in history books that they played a bit part of a goverment. As for the Tory & Libdem cuts, why do they blame or should I say hammer the working people of this country (women & men)? We have bailed out the banks, we are now staying alive longer so now that is our fault, we should simply retire, and then die a few weeks later it would save any goverment from paying us what we have been paying taxes for all our working lives. And why when the chips are down do they turn on the people of this country who have payed by telling them now we have to work longer by now raising the retirement age, it is harder for people who have worked to get anything out of what they were promised. Instead of going for people who have a reason for not being able to work and the people who have worked and payed their dues, why dont they start by dealing with the people who dont want to work because they cant be bothered and who have not payed a penny into the system but seem to be able to draw money from the system, in other words these people who simply take money off the people who have payed.

As much as i agree with RonD on the point of this website asking a question like 'Do you hate the tories?' as being very tabloid like and inflammatory. I have to say that i'm afraid i very much hate the tories and hate Thatcher for what she did to the UK and particularly Scotland.
This recently resigned MP's comments only reminds most of us in Scotland how a heartless and yes 'hateful' lot the tories actually are, especially towrds the people of Scotland. Even former defence secretery Michael Heseltine said that this was there main problem (under thatchers leadership).
Make no mistake, these people couldnt give a damn about the common man, they have absolutely no compassion for anyone other than there 'own' kind, the rich and middle class in England who mostly support them. There maye have been some ligitimate reasons for an overhaul of industry's in this country to keep up with world competion, but the speed and haste that the tories ripped peoples lives apart via massive redundancies/job losses etc was nothing short of cruel, spiteful and downrite fascist.?
Sorry, but i despise the tories and just about all they stand for. Notice how they blame labour entirely for the current economic problems? Wasn't it the bankers that generally go us into this mess? And are labour to blame for the strikes and protests that are going on in the likes of Spain and Greece? Hmmm lets juts blame labour for the worlds problems altogether why don't we?
