I'd have to say Castlemilk last Summer...walking the roads that my husband walked on when he was little. Taking his photo outside of the apt. building he grew up in with his Nan. Seeing the field he played on and watching his eyes as he recalled all the memories. He hadn't realized how much he missed it until then. I don't think it will be so long until our next visit.

Marina,
He said it had changed a lot too, but somethings were still the same. He was very surprised to see the building he lived in was still standing. He thought it would have been knocked down. An area he played in had some changes too, but there were enough things the same that he remebered to take him back.

Just found this thread, Years ago when Philip was 10yrs we went back to Glasgow , just me & him it was great, done all the usual things and I wanted to go & see my old school ( Shakespear Street primary). I didn't know at that time it was turned into a school to help the disabled, but I was allowed to go inside and walk around. Talk about going back in time it was instant, (sitting here with chills just thinking about it) anyway we spent about 20/30 mins there the staff was great letting us go in the rooms etc, I was fine till I went up stairs to were the old gym/assembly hall used to be and I just started bawling (like now) It had changed but it was still the same, and once again I was 5 years old., till Philip said,"did this school have electric when you went here?" Game Over.....

My favourite memories are of window-shopping at Christmas time with Mum, Dad and my brother and sisters. It would be dark and we were wrapped up wellfrom the cold night air. Mum and Dad would take us to see the special displays in the shop windows, with Santa waving at us and reindeer dashing through the snow. I would have stood with my nose pressed against the shop window forever! We would tell Mum and Dad what we would like from Santa, then head to George Square, where there was a huge tree and Baby Jesus in the manger. It was a busy place, the Square, full of families just like ours, walking round, pointing and Oohing and Aahing at the wonderful, magical scene.

Auchinairn, Buchanan crescent. It was cul de sac in a scheme with a common green area. The best time of day was in the summer after tea. Knowing it was bed time in a few hours all the weans used to congregate there all ages from 2 to early teens. It was the time for the all inclusive games. Frozen tig, rounders, football as many as 30 weans all involved. It was just a special time that sent you off to bed (still light outside) with a glow on your face.
