Hi
My first job was in the Initial towell supply at the Bottom of York street near the Broomielaw I was sent out with a big three wheeled bike with a large box on it full of towels and I had to deliver them to shops and works ect and also collect the dity ones and I can tell you some of the dirty ones where stinkin.
I left there after about six months and got started in the Glasgow cleansing department at the depot in Haugh road I loved that job I was put on the paper motor which collected waste paper from the offices in the town there was about nine of us on the motor and we used to have great fun.....

From collectin' dirty towels to working at the Cleansing department in 6 months! That was a rapid career jump. tongue.gif
I started at 15 years of age with the SCWS in Morrisson Street.
From being a kid I had always been told that I could make no decisions for myself till I was 16.
One year after startin' with SCWS, I left.
I was 16 and could make my own decisions now. That was my first one and made only for the reason that I could. Of course it was a bad decision ... but you have to start somewhere, don't you. biggrin.gif

My first job was at Daly's, a big stop in Sauchiehall St. in Glasgow. Since I was hired as a clerk during my first day my boss overheard me referring to the location I was assigned to as an office. She nearly had a fit and from that day on I was told to never use the term office again to describe my wee bit space since Daly's had no offices, only a Counting House. And no, she wasn't kidding. This was 1955 already.

It was a lovely shop but expensive. I met singer Dickie Valentine there and actress Terry Moore.

I had the usual student vacational jobs - Christmas postman, bus conductor. First real job in my outstanding career was payroll clerk in Central Hotel accounting centre, doing wages for there plus St Enoch Hotel, North British Hotel, Turnberry Hotel and Station Hotel, Dumfries.

My first job was in Mclellans Rubber works. There were big moulds that made tennis balls and the temperature felt about 1000 deg. I went out at dinner time and got myself a job in a warehouse in Queens St.Law Dawson Co. Iwas there till i left Maryhill and got a job in Linwood.

My first job was in Timothy White's chemist at St Enoch sq. To my mother's horror I quit my course at Langside College (which I have always regretted) when I saw the ad in the paper for a shop assistant. Thought I was great with my three pound ten a week.
