I've never been on the organised guided tour, but I've been quite a few times, mainly on the 'Open Doors' days and I've always found the building to be extremely impressive. After visiting the city chambers, I am always reminded about just how rich and powerful the city once was, when it was the second city of one of the most powerful empires ever to exist.

I don't believe a building as opulent as the chambers will ever be built in Glasgow again - at least not using public money!

GG.

As a Glaswegian ex-pat of some 50 years I look forward to showing off the City Chambers (and its floor, beautiful staircase etc) to a couple of New Zealand friends when we come over for a trip later this year.

Good idea lindamac, I really should get the camera out and go in and see how things went - that's if the work is finished, I'd better check before I go...

I went on the guided tour of the City Chambers about about 25 years ago with my mum, dad and children. I really enjoyed it at the time and remember thinking that the rooms, staircase, floors etc. were something else. I should maybe think about doing the tour again to refresh my memory. smile.gif
