There gave been a couple of defections to the new party of one or two more, ahem, mature individuals. My thinking is that Mr Salmond should go the whole hog and change his name by deed poll to Captain Mainwaring rolleyes.gif

I'm afraid I share the view of most political commentators. At best, it's more likely the new party will split the vote and let other parties gain ground...

My thoughts too, Ash.
As we saw with The Brexit Party it was, IMO, one guy's way of levering himself onto the stage: reminded me of my best mate who offered to payy for my Discharge by Purchase from the RAF to join with him in his new political party, the Scottish National Socialist Party, all of 52 years ago.
He was out to make a name for himself back then: never seen him since rolleyes.gif
To me it looks like Salmond might be, well, trying to polish his own crown to the detriment of an independent Scotland right now: If it aint broke don't try fixing it springs to mind.

He should have waited until after we regain our independence to form his own party.

SNP 1&2 for me. thumbup.gif

I'm afraid I share the view of most political commentators. At best, it's more likely the new party will split the vote and let other parties gain ground. At worst, his decision to re-enter politics will have a negative impact on support for Independence. Unfortunately there are is a significant number who will fail to see the differences in the two parties. Salmond may well be popular with a section of those seeking independence but I think his wider appeal has waned considerably.

If this article in The Independent is anything to go by it would seem that the two fish, Salmon(d) and Sturgeon, in the topic's subtitle "a fishy affair" might now find themselves bound together; like it or lump it, tighter than the two in the astrological star sign Pisces
