G'day Martin.

The Glasgow Guide has been very slow at times lately, I realise, that the hosts maybe servicing the boards, is there any chance that whilst this is happening or about to happen that you can have a pop up open saying this,or have a notice on the web address prior to people trying to enter the site, which would give members and guests the option to wait or not??, lots of people have become frustrated. I've tried to explain the reasons why this happens, for some people. I can imagine it's not easy servicing a web site, especially with everything that gets added to it, which inturn causes upgrades.

Thankgoodness for edit button sometimes...forgot to mention, there's a lot of people who get stressed due to the situation, causing them to think that something maybe wrong with their computer.

Once when I was having my computer serviced, the technician told me to copy to cd or delete a lot of emails if I couldnt upgrade at the time financially aswell as pictures that have moveable parts as they take or fill up so much space by the amount of bytes they accumulate, and also to keep photo's in a smaller format, which in turn also causes the comp to slow down. Not sure how true that is, yet I thought it helped.

Thankyou for your time and energy in keeping thousands of people enjoyed on GG.

I can only apologise for this latest problem Tori and Anne. I have just contacted our hosts to complain about the service we are getting; unfortunately, despite paying a high price for a top hosting solution the GG site has suffered very badly in the last month with the site being very slow on a number of occasions.

I am now considering a move from the company involved, but will wait and see what solution they come up with as any move will be costly in terms of my time required to transfer.

GG.

Hi stratson ... with a bit of luck, it's possible that all you need is a tweak of your pc's virtual memory settings, which need not cost you a penny. Virtual memory should be set at 1.5 times your RAM, and you can usually adjust this via the Performance or System settings tab in your Control Panel, depending on which operating system that you use.

Please note that I have organised a major upgrade to some of the software which runs the GG site. I am not sure when exactly it will take place, but I have requested that it happens during the (UK) night. After the upgrade there will be a loss of some features on the boards, notably the Shoutbox, so please be patient if you notice downtime and/or some loss of service in the next few days... it is planned.

I will keep you all informed as soon as I have more information.

GG.

It also depends if you are using Dial Up.
Stratson take your comp to shop or get someone to put in an extra ram.
That will speed things up a lot for you.

Don't worry Anne1, meant to say I'll get the Shoutbox back quickly, and probably most of the other features as well... will just take a bit of time, but glad you like it! smile.gif

I'm delighted to say that the first stage (and most important by far) of the upgrade has been carried out and there are a number of things still to be addressed, but I will be able to start working on these tonight.

The ShoutBox is not functioning just now, see above, but will return soon.

So please be aware that a few things may be a bit different, but the good thing is that we are now using the latest software.

More tonight.

GG.
