Well Danny ,you could'nt be more wrong in your
guesstimate on how I travelled to Canada .

Regarding those who sit /stand at public places
begging with a bowl are mostly native to that country
with a few in desperate need of money and the majority
being the town drunks and the minority are migrants .

Also the indigenous peoples of north America are very much alive
today and not decimated as you claim 'I think that you are watching to many cowboy and indian movies" .......I mentioned in a
previous post their lot eg" The indigenous people" is improving very much compared to past times
and hopefully will continue to do so .

I no longer have children but I do have adult children and they
seem to be happy including my grandchildren , they are very
proud of their Scottish /Irish and English heritage
and of course their French Canadian heritage and me too . smile.gif

thumbup.gif spot on angel, just as my chidren/grandchildren are proud of their german /scots irish and English/ Pakistani heritage yes.gif

It is a fact that many first generation immigrants may not do
as well as others . but it is my experience that 2nd and third
do very well in their employment/ and careers and pay back to
their new country one way or another any so called dues that may
have occur'd in their quest to start a new life .

Canada today is full of canadians descended from European
settlers both recently and back to the 1500s or so and I'm not
aware of any dire consequences to this country because of
it's historical background and I think that the same will be
for Scotland in the future , assuming that some clown
does'nt blow up our countries .

QUOTE (bilbo.s @ 23rd Apr 2017, 11:04pm) *
I wonder if Danny Boy considers that those , who he is forever babbling on about as having died in WWII, (and I have the greatest respect for them), would look at what is now happening in UK, more especially in England, and wonder what they fought and died for. Most of them did not choose to fight and die for their country and its perceived ideals and standards, but they believed they did so against fascist dictatorships. How sad and ultimately what a waste of young life, equal to that of WW I , where nobody to this day knows why they fought and died in their thousands.

Of course the powers that be react to opinions such as mine by accusing us of disrespecting the dead troops, when in reality we disrespect the politicians who sent them to their death. It still goes on!

Bilbo, It is funny how when I submit a respectful post regarding people who fought for this country, I am accused of forever babbling by you. You are saying the same thing as me, i.e. they would have wondered what they have fought and died for. You are entitled to your point of view. It just so happens that mine differs from yours.

It would also be nice if you dropped the BOY tag when posting about me.

Angel, I took a guess about you. That was all it was. No offence meant.

We are talking about two different types of people. You are talking about immigrants, who went to Canada under a controlled immigration system. I am talking about people who can come to the UK under EU rules.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you. The original Native people of Canada were decimated. No question about that. We are talking about nations , and cultures, not tribes as portrayed in Hollywood cowboy films.

I lived in Canada for four years. The only time I saw any of them was at a World Fair in Toronto. A small number of them were dressed in Red Indian outfits to please the tourists.

In the neighbourhood I lived in there were only two families. One had a very small herd of cattle in a field in an airport enclosure. He didn't even have a barn or a house.

The other had a son who was in the same class as me at school. He was killed in Korea serving with the Canadian army.

How many members of Parliament in Canada are from the indigenous population? Do they have the equivalent of the SNP in Canada? Just asking, as I don't know.

Yes Danny they were decimated by disease, Famine , denial of provisions
and forced relocation .

However my mistake was that I thought you meant that their
decimation was caused by war .

for what it is worth , the old definition of decimate
meant that one in ten suffered in some way
or another

and today's definition means wiped out completely.

Danny Harris

I believe that the are 10 aboriginal MPs in the
Federal government, but there are also non
aboriginals not born in Canada but with
Canadian Citizenship who are ALSO members of
the government, and in Ontario I think there are aboriginal
in the provincial government, for the other provinces
you will have to check for yourself , if you are really
interested . because I can't be bothered .. Regards .
