It's called Security essentials. I installed it today, and I have to say it looks very good, and easy to use.
You can download it from the Microsoft website.

Pleased you like the free anti-virus download from Mr Gates - but please remember they never give anything away free unless there's a catch - and I would encourage people to 'fork out' for a FULL security suite - there are plenty to choose from. It aint called 'essentials' for nothing, I wouldnt mind betting smile.gif Just a word of caution for those taking up the download - make sure it doesnt tie you into their products. I think Mr Gates probably has MORE than enough influence, personally!
Of course it will be better than nothing

I´ll stick with AVG free edition. Don´t like Microsoft products and that goes for MacAfee too. Also AOL.

I am the same way Bilbo.s. I have been using the various versions of AVG free edition for years now, and I like it.

I also have, Spybot S & D, as well as SpyewareBlaster. These plus AVG are what keep things ticking over nicely, with hardly ever a problem.

I've been using MSE for a few months and find it very easy to work with and it has detected two 'nasties' in that time.
It updates regularly and scheduled scans are done on time.

This is an article from last year on the beta version which might be of interest to you.....

Most "Anti-virus" products are very good. If you install a different one from the one you have used for years you will find that it detects loads of so called nasties. In fact, they are finding small files which are not deemed a danger by other products. This gives you the impression that it is better than another product. Yet another game!

I have to agree, I find AVG excellent and very user friendly. I have found Microsoft, McAfee and Norton very, very invasive.
