Thought i'd try out some more poems on my favourite audience biggrin.gif hope you like and feel free to put in some of your own poems and feel free to tell me if mine are crap!

You don’t know me yet you’ve known me my whole life
You don’t understand me yet you make the same decisions
You don’t realise my potential yet you continue to hope
You don’t have a clue yet you always thought you knew
You don’t believe in me yet you always see the good in me
But then you see you are me!

I thought you might like this one (even though its not one of my own wink.gif ) i came across it when i was doing the newsletter at my work and it seemed pretty fitting for this website unfortunately i don't know who wrote it but whoever did - all credit to you!:

A Glesca' Wean

Ah wis born an' bred in Glesca'
Aye, Glesca' is ma hame
Bein' brocht up in a tenement
made me a typical Glasca' Wean

Ah didnae hae very many toys
Like the weans a' hiv the day
Ma pals were happy girls an' boys
An' there wis lots o' games tae play

We'd play at 'Cowboys an' Indians'
We played at 'Hide an' seek'
When we coonted tae 100 nice an' fast
An' ye wirnae allowed tae peek.

Then we'd tie some string thre' two tin cans
An' we'd put them oan oor feet
An' stomp like Dracula's Monster
Right up an' doon oor street

There wis 'Doublers', 'Ropes' an' 'Kick the can'
We played 'Rounders' roon the back
The we'd sit oan toap o' the midden
Tellin' Ghost Stories 'til it got dark

We'd walk tae the Picture Matinee
Oan a Seturday efternoon
Where a man came oot tae make us a' sing
An' wave hankies in time tae the tune

But even tho' we hidnae Dolls like Barbie or like Sindy
Ye could shout up tae yer Maw fer a piece oan Jam an' she'd
Throw it oot the windae!

And yet another one courtesy of the works newsletter, this one was written many years ago by a ninety year old women (with a great sense of humour i imagine!)

I'm Fine, Thank you

There is nothing the matter with me,
I'm as healthy as I can be.
I have arthritis in both my knees
And when i talk, i talk with a wheeze.
My pulse is weak, my blood is thin,
But I'm awfully well for the shape I'm in
Arch supports i have for my feet,
Or i wouldn't be able on the street.
Sleep is denied me night after night
But every morning i find I'm alright
My memory is failing, my heads ina spin,
But I'm awfully well for the shape I'm in.

The moral is this as my tale i unfold -
That for you and me who are growing old,
It's better to say "I'm fine" with a grin,
than to let folk know the shape we are in

How do i know that my youth is all spent?
Well, my get up & go, has got up and went.
But I really don't mind when i think with a grin
Of all the good places my "get up" has been.

Old age is golden I've heard it said
But, sometimes i wonder as i get into bed
With my ears int he drawer, my teeth in a cup,
My eyes on the table until i wake up.
Ere sleep overtakes me, i say to myself
"Is there anything else i could lay on the shelf?"

When i was young my slippers were red.
I could kick my heels right over my head
When i got older my slippers were blue
But i could still dance the whole night through
Now i an old, my slippers are black
I walk to the store and puff my way back

I get up each morning and dust off my wits
I pick up the paper and read the "Obit's"
If my name is still missing i know I'm not head
So i have a good breakfast and go back to bed

Elaine, that poem about "The Glesga Wean" is brilliant and spot on.
Last summer I was teaching my G'daughter how to play doublers, and she loves some of the old rhymes that I sing, ( the rhymes not my singing laugh.gif ) while playing doublers. She always asks for the one about " the princess who doesn't want to catch the measles".
I well remember putting holes in tin cans, and pulling the string through, and clomping about, what a racket they made.
And tin tops on the soles of our shoes, to tap dance with.

Every generation make their own memories, but I wonder what memories the present generation, who are growing up with Play Stations, Game Boys etc., will have, regarding childhood games.

If we fear we cannot be bound.
If we are bound in fear,
we can only drag ourselves
into the suffering

When I pray I am full of life
When I speak I can only give blessings
When I think of you, I can only share my love

My faith is my best gift
it is that spark of freedom

If you beleive in suffering
you dwell in the realm of ignorance
If you have felt the scent of my love,
then you can beleive in life.

I'm far too shy to tell you that I love you.
You're a star far from my plain earth.
I gaze and see no man who's above you:
To me you are the cynosure of worth.
Yet with all your beauty you're a person
Like me in need of sympathy and love.
Your thoughts of me would not, I dare hope, worsen
If I in some way tried your heart to move.
There's pleasure, surely, drawn from the reflection
That someone, somewhere, worships your sweet face,
Thinks you are the summit of perfection,
Wants nothing more of life than your embrace.
The danger is you'll think it couldn't be;
So I suggest you see yourself through me.

The road ahead is like the road behind.
The dreams achieved revise the dreams to come.
Mind shapes world, and new-shaped world shapes mind,
As what you are steps back from what you've done.

The deeper you resides in its own space,
Sheltered like a yolk from wind and tide,
Filled with unimaginable grace
To wander through the paradise inside.

Ambitious girl! Become what dream you will,
And sail across each dark, forbidding sea.
Within, the fawn will graze sweet meadows still,
Untouched by all the phantoms you will be.

Here's a classic from Mr Burns:

To A Mouse.

Wee sleekit, cow'rin, tim'rous beastie,
O, what a panic's in thy breastie!
Thou need na start awa sae hasty,
Wi bickering brattle!
I wad be laith to rin an chase thee,
Wi murdering pattle!

I'm truly sorry man's dominion
Has broken Nature's social union,
An justifies that ill opinion,
Which makes thee startle
At me, thy poor, earth-born companion.
An fellow mortal!

I doubt na, whyles, but thou may thieve:
What then? poor beastie, thou maun live!
A daimen icker in a thrave
'S a sma request;
I'll get a blessin wi the lave,
An never miss't!

Thy wee-bit housie, too, in ruin!
Its silly wa's the win's are strewin!
An naething, now, to big a new ane,
O foggage green!
An bleak December's win's ensuin.
Baith snell an keen!

Thou saw the fields laid bare an waste,
An weary winter comin fast.
An cozie here, beneath the blast,
Thou thought to dwell,
Till crash! the cruel coulter past
Out thro thy cell.

That wee bit heap o leaves an stibble,
Has cost thee monie a weary nibble!
Now thou's turn'd out, for a' thy trouble.
But house or hald,
To thole the winter's sleety dribble,
An cranreuch cauld!

But Mousie, thou art no thy lane,
In proving foresight may be vain:
The best-laid schemes o mice an men
Gang aft agley,
An lea'e us nought but grief an pain,
For promis'd joy!

Still thou art blest, compar'd wi me!
The present only toucheth thee:
But och! I backward cast my e'e,
On prospects drear!
An forward, tho I canna see,
I guess an fear!

Another one i did while "working"

As he slipped away with a tear on his cheek
he whispered softly ' my life, it was not meek'
'I've lived a life that wis full,
In fact some days were downright cool'
'so as i leave this life behind - gonnae no cry!'
and as he slipped away that tear began to dry.

Friendship is the kind of love
that never can grow old.
Warm and cozy it will stay
when other things are cold.
Friendship is a love so true
it won't be denied,
Because a friend will always be
there close by your side.
Boyfriends and lovers come and go
in this game of life we play,
But a true friend, no matter what,
in your heart will always stay.
So hold these friends dear to you,
and never let them go.
Think how much they mean to you,
and make sure to tell them so.

Thoughts

In my precious time I stand and stare
At the river’s edge through tranquil air;
A walk through the woods is oh so sweet,
And shades me from the summer heat!
I like to see the rainbow etch
A beautiful arc – as a painter’s sketch;
A view in which we all play a part
And share the joy of nature’s art,
Where sunset’s image amid the trees,
And perfect moments, such as these
That’s when I find time to stand and stare,
This beautiful life seen everywhere.

Autumn Reverie

The beauty of an azure sky
The singing of the birds on high

The beauty of the hills beyond
And fallen leaves upon a pond

Orange and red and yellow too
The magic of fall for me and you

It gladdens my heart to see this time
A favoured walk with friends of mine

We walk amid a carpet of bronze
Listening to birds, singing their songs

I think of the good times and throw off the bad
To dwell on those memories would make me so sad

A walk in the forest with leaves all around
Alone with my thoughts, and no other sound

Our lives are as short as the seasons that pass
So tender our hearts – as they shatter like glass

Live out all your seasons with joy in your soul
Bring pleasure to others – let this be your goal.

As I sit here by my keyboard,
and look upon this site,
I visit all the friends I’ve found,
they come from near and far.
As many of us grow older
We found our lives expanded,
The computer has brought us all so close,
The miles they do not matter.
We have a general chit chat
And topic of discussion,
pictures posted from round the world
The subject does not matter.
And into live chat we often go
And have a little patter.
The thing that brings us all so close
Is the common bond of Glasgow.
So if your feeling low and need a wee friend
Come along to GG and read a little post.
It’s sure to make you happy.
For the members are the most.

This my feeling on this site. wub.gif

A Daddy's Story

It was on the month of Liverpool
in the City of July,
the rain was snowing heavily
and the streets were soaking dry.

I fell in love with a Scots girl
who sang me an Irish dance,
she lived in Tipperary
just a few miles out of France.

Her father was a brick layer
aboard the Bangor boat
it took two thousand tons of coal
to feed Magillians goat.

Magillians goat took ill on Sunday
and died the day before
now I have told you enough of my lies
and I am not going to tell you any more.

Wonderful Day

I hope you woke up this morning with a big smile on your face...
I hope the sun is shining just for you
and the birds are singing their very best songs...
I hope your coffee is hot and tastes just right
and the cats are purring contentedly,
and the mailman waves a cheery hello...
and there are no bills in the post.

I hope that your day is filled with lovely surprises
and friends call you up just to say "Hi"...
I hope you feel on top of the world
with a spring in your step all day
I hope just everything goes your way
I hope everything is well with your world,
a place for everything and everything in its place...
I hope you can enjoy all you do
... and you are complimented on the way you look,
and you can laugh and talk and share to your heart's content.

I hope you have all you wish for yourself
and those dear to you,
and all your dreams come true...
and at the end of the day
I wish you a perfect moon shining just for you,
a snug and cosy bed with the softest of pillows
and I hope you sleep like a lamb
... with a smile on your face.
I hope you have a perfect end to the perfect day
... and I hope that every day is just as wonderful in its own way!

Friends without Faces!
We sit and we type, and we stare at our screens
We all have to wonder, what this possibly means.
With our mouse we roam, through the rooms in a maze
Looking for something or someone, as we with in a daze.
We wait for somebody, to type out our name.
We want recognition, but it is always the same.
We give kisses and hugs, and sometimes flirt.
In PM's we chat deeply, and reveal why we hurt.
We do form friendships - but - how, we don't know
But some of these friendships, will flourish and grow.
Why is it on screen that we can be so bold
Telling our secrets, that have never been told.
Why is it we share the thought in our mind
With those we can't see, as though we were blind.
The answer is simple, it is as clear as a bell.
We all have our problems, and need someone to tell.
We can't tell real people, but tell someone we must,
So we turn to the 'puter, and to those we can trust.
Even though it is crazy, the truth still remains

They are Friends Without Faces, and odd little names.

~~author unknown~~

thanks for all those wee names

A Small Tree -- Every one needs one.

I hired a plumber to help me restore an old farmhouse, and after he had just finished a rough first day on the job: a flat tire made him lose an hour of work, his electric drill quit and his ancient one ton truck refused to start.
While I drove him home, he sat in stony silence. On arriving, he
invited me in to meet his family. As we walked toward the front door, he paused briefly at a small tree, touching the tips of the branches with both hands.

When opening the door he underwent an amazing transformation. His face was wreathed in smiles and he hugged his two small children and gave his wife a kiss.

Afterward he walked me to the car. We passed the tree and my
curiosity got the better of me. I asked him about what I had seen him do earlier.
"Oh! That's my trouble tree," he replied. "I know I can't
help having troubles on the job, but one thing's for sure, those
troubles don't belong in the house with my wife and the children. So I just hang them up on the tree every night when I come home and ask God to take care of them. Then in the morning I pick them up again."

"Funny thing is," he smiled, "when I come out in the morning to
pick'em up, there aren't nearly as many as I remember hanging up the night before."

not really a poem but I like the thought.

In my job as an insurance agent I got so frustrated being consistantly let down with a potential client, I sent him this wee bit in a letter.

THE SALESMANS LAST LETTER

Dear Mr Smith

I am growing very old
my hair has gone grey
my teeth have fallen out
rotten with decay
most body parts that came in two's
have whittled down to one
my sex life has long since gone
I need ***IGNORED WORDS*** by the ton
I walk with a limp
and stoop when I stand
and whenever I clap
I can only use one hand
my days are numbered
to the end of my life
but I need that appointment
with you and your wife
I am on a misssion
from up on high
to sell you a pension
before I die
I have called you at work
but to no avail
you never call back
or answer my mail
I am sure you're fed up
rejecting my calls
and you wonder how
I have got the balls
but this is my swan song
and the lyrics are mine
so how about that meeting
while I still have the time

Love is an angel, so soft and so true.
Black as the devil, so awkward and askew;
Touchs the heart, and brought me to you
Tore me away, unable to pursue.

Pursue as I might, try as I may
Without you, my life is just disarray;
I realise my love is going astray
I didn't love you enough, and now I will pay.

Love is what keeps me chasing you still
You truly loved me, and never again will;
I pursued to your home, all in goodwill
I picked you a rose, my wish to fulfill.

A knock, then another and the door lay unwound
My glow disappeared as the rain drizzled down;
A glance up, as I make my way to turn around
When what do I hear, but a shrill creaking sound.

The door opened and what do I see
Well it's the beautiful, humble, better half of me;
I hand him my rose, and was used as a key
To open up the door of love, that we didn't see.

A hug, and a kiss, I sit on thy knee
"I ask of you, to put the debris,
I will love you forever, this I guarentee
Because love is whatever we make it to be."

Posted by: ElaineMcFarlane 4th Mar 2004, 11:14pm

No matter how bad things may be
I will stress this point to you
I will always be right here
I promise, my words are true

I may not have a magic wand
To wave your troubles away
But I want reassure you this
I’m your friend and here to stay

Sometimes it is enough to know
That someone is right there
And that they care enough to listen
And care enough to care

Ok, so maybe you think I’m nuts
Your thoughts I cannot blame
But to pass up on a sincere friendship
Would be a crying shame

I lived my life in shadow, never the sun on my face.
It didn't seem so sad though, I figured that was my place.
Now I'm bathed in light. Something just isn't right.

I'm under your spell.
How else could it be, anyone would notice me?
It's magic, I can tell.
How you set me free, brought me out so easily.

I saw a whole world enchanted, spirits and charms in the air,
and I always took for granted, I was the only one there.
But your power shone, brighter than any I've known.

I'm under your spell.
Nothing I can do, you just took my soul with you.
You worked your charm so well,
Finally I knew, everything I dreamed was true.
You made me believe.

The moon to the tide, I can feel you inside.
I'm under your spell.
Surging like the sea, drawn to you so helplessly.
I break with every swell,
Lost in ecstacy, spread beneath my Willow tree.

wee mentor ... great website you've got up and running there.

You've managed to pack so much in there I didn't have time to go through it all, but hope to return to it often.

I'm sure the other GG members will browse through it too and let you know their thoughts.

I know it's only half a year
That you will be away,
But it will feel far more than that
Each long and lonely day.

A day without a friend is like
A meadow turned to sand,
A garden turned to weeds and dust,
An ocean far from land.

Time enters a slow-motion zone,
Repeating endlessly
The tearful grimace of the heart
Till you return to me. wub.gif

That is a lovely poem, it really touched me. I guess especially since my daughter if off to the Amazon basin for a year to study primates. No real contact, only letters, I will think of your words many a time over the next 14 months believe me. Thanks GB

We're never completely in one place. Some part
Of us hangs out on streets we barely remember,
Or converses with faces no longer familiar. Or we start
Lunch in June, and sneak off into December.
Every encounter has a beginning, but never
An ending. Like an exquisite ecosphere,
The mind turns each raindrop into forever,
Nor does it allow one word to disappear.
Some evening, years from now, we'll be driving home,
Talking, I in your car, or you
In mine, driving through rich Iowa loam,
Or flowering Jersey suburbs, or Kalamazoo.
It will not matter, as we speak, whether
Our lives are bitter or sweet. We'll be together. wub.gif

We met upon the Internet,
A friendship electronic,
Expressed alone in words and thoughts,
Inevitably platonic.

We live too far apart for us
To mingle in the flesh,
But much more close than family,
Our hearts and feelings mesh.

Your dear, dear self reveals itself
Without a voice or face.
We have our own sweet home within
Our precious cyberspace.

the shortest poem ever????

They say time passes, but it is not so —
In truth, time stays, love. It is we who go...

It takes more than caring
To be a real friend;
The nature of friendship;
Requires a blend
Of warmest compassion
And love deep and true
To reach and to comfort
The way that you do.
Because I can see
That your kind of friendship
Is priceless to me.

I believe in sunshine, as it bakes away the blues;
but I believe in showers, and their mystic, cryptic clues.

I believe in oak trees, as they tower in the sky;
but roots are needed also, to help them reach so high.

I believe in eagles, as they spread their mighty wings;
but mice are very real, as well, and other nasty things.

I believe in waterfalls, as nature's voice of power;
but tidal waves and floods will come, at any given hour.

I believe in silence, as a gentle peace within;
but I believe in chaos, with all its senseless din.

The coin will have its heads and tails,
despite our frantic rants and rails.

Without chaotic stress and strain,
could peace be truly known again?

You may not have ever seen me
But you know that I am here.
You can feel me in your heart
As you enter each new day.

I will always be there for you
I am your friend.

Someone to share the good times
As well as the bad.
I make no judgments by what you say
I just listen with my heart and
Hope to be of help in anyway I can.

I will be there for you now and forever
And always please remember
I am your friend!

For my pain
I've got nothing to show
For my love
I've got nowhere to go
For my hope
I am all alone
For my trust
I've lost all that I own
For my faith
I've got nothing but hurt
For my efforts
I've been ground in the dirt
Days go by
Time passes on
I try not to cry
My life is gone.

Some angels have haloes and others have wings.
Still, others have cars with pink lettering.
Some angels protect while other sing,
But only one is able to bring
A smile to my face
With her natural beauty and grace.
Typically, God sends an angel to be a person’s guardian,
But God sent you to be my life-long friend.

When you look into the mirror
what is it that you see?
Is that someone really
so much unlike me?

Am I on the inside,
everything you see in my shell?
Do your flowing robes of heaven
conceal your inner hell?

Don't you find it sad
that to be perfect is the key?
And if we want to compete,
we must lose our identity.

Are you really all you are
or is there something more?
Behind these plastic faces,
is there really a feeling core?

Or is it all pretend,
just some big contest
to see who can be perfect,
and look better than the rest?

What do you call a person?
What do you call a man?
Are you really all you think you are?
–Prove it if you can.

I'm beautiful,
Yet I'm ugly.
I'm graceful,
Yet I'm clumsy.
I'm happy,
Yet I'm sad.

I'm good,
Yet I'm bad.
I'm complex,
Yet I'm simple.
I'm strong,
Yet I'm weak.

I'm laid-back,
Yet I tend to worry and obsess.
I'm loud,
Yet I'm quiet.
i'm vibrant,
Yet I'm colorless.

I'm out in the open,
Yet I'm locked away in my own world.
I'm admired,
Yet I'm looked down upon.
I'm talented,
Yet I tend to lose my touch.

I'm hard working,
Yet I'm lazy.
I'm almost a young woman,
Yet I'm still a baby.
I'm success,
Yet I'm a disappointment.

I'm an organized, living, breathing, form of art,
Yet I'm a mess.
I know,
Yet I don't know.
I'm kind,
Yet I'm mean.

I'm visible to the eyes,
Yet I'm unseen.
I'm something out of a dream,
A dream somewhat nightmarish.
i'm something you remember in the morning,
Yet forget by midnight.

I'm something real,
Yet I have a bit of plastic glued onto my skin.
I'm everything you wish you could be,
As far as you can see,
You see beauty.
Yet I wish I was a bit better at being me...

No man, no machines,
To clutter the sound,
Of a silence so deafening,
Only natures calls can abound.
The trickle of a stream,
Over rocks and tangled brush,
Flow ever so silently,
Until overcome by a hush.
The scamper of squirrels,
Scatter through the wood,
Gathering food for the winter,
Ever peaceful as they should.
The cry of the timer wolf,
Piercing into the night,
Makes only those who don't know him,
Shudder in fright.
And all the other creatures,
Whether on ground or in tree,
Live their lives in harmony,
Because they are free.

Elaine, this is the first time I have read your poems.Thank you for sharing them with GG members. You are one very talented lady. Do you have any for bereaved parents?

Posted by: ElaineMcFarlane 3rd Jun 2004, 05:11pm

HI Brenda - i dont have any poems for bereved parents myself but i found this one

Please Lord

I reach out to grasp
All the fleeting moments
Of my past.
My life has taken many a turn.
God seems to be telling me
It's my time to learn.
Difficult times are closing in.
I cannot breathe.
The hurt flows within.
They say with time the wounds will heal,
But it's hard to believe, with the pain that I feel.
One day I learn I will be a mother.
Then, it's all taken away on another.
Why does life have to be so cruel?
I've always lived by the Golden Rule.
Do unto others, that's what I've done.
But, in the end, I haven't won.
I pray the Lord hears my pleas,
Looks into my heart, and truly sees,
Life has dealt me a hard enough hand.
It's time that I see
Just His footprints in the sand.
Deliver unto me a child from above.
And I promise to give him all my love.

I like poetry very much, so it has always had a special place in my heart, one particular poem I read many years ago and it seems to have stayed with me all this time.

I'd like to post it here as I was thinking the other day of someone who means an awful lot to me, this poem just seems right for my sentiments.

Moment of Love

There comes a moment in every life
When it is time to set aside the strife
Put up the hammer, put down the bow
And let Spirit show us where to go

There is time in every life
To let love be our guide
Show no fear, face the foe, and do not hide
Hide from the journey before our eyes
For the foe is fear, fear of surprise

Fear that something soon may change
And knowing naught, it seems so strange
That life may be but a moment of joy
A moment of perfect harmony
Peace within, a moment of love

And is that not what love might be
A perfect state of harmony
But to know that moment, one must share
And that, Dear One, is why you are there
Your presence allows me to feel that state
To know the joy, the peace within

Spirit smiles and says to me
Now, my child, it is time for all to see
The love, the joy, the harmony

But first I must pay credits due
This would not be now if not for you
It is not that just that you are there
But that you allow me to share
My story, my thoughts, my joy
This moment of love

There comes a time in every life
When it is time for Spirit to delight
In a moment that is shared
In a moment of love.

My friend was telling me that her friend(Jacobs grandmother ) is not doing well at all. She just can't except the fact that her daughter is gone ,and will not see little Jacob grow up .Take his first steps, go to school, etc. Very sad really.

Saw this one in the Record today and thought it really funny. Anyone who has been reading all about the new Scottish Parliament and the controversy surrounding it, will understand what it is all about.

Our Lord who art in heaven
Holyrood be our shame
Thy kingdom's conned
It's costing us the earth
Never mind heaven
Give us some finishing date
We're up to our ears in debt
And our necks in debtors
Lead us not into sequestration
But deliver us our building
If not, thy kingdom
Will be paying this up for ever
And ever
Amen

Traveling down this endless road,
To a destiny untold.
Searching for a better way,
Hunting my pot of gold.

This dusty trail is filled with ghosts,
From my distant past.
Maybe if I run fast enough,
I will be free alas.

Up ahead the storm clouds rise
Such a fearful sight.
Filled with troubles and trajedys,
Will I survive this night?

Terror lurks at every turn,
And with every bridge I cross,
I face life and death with every breath,
Someday I must pay the cost.

And so I journey ever on,
Driven closer to life's end,
But for now I'll just enjoy the ride,
And let the roadway be my friend.

You didn't know anything
But if I told you everything
Maybe you wouldn't be
So awfully mad at me
I thought I knew you
I suppose that wasn't true
I don't need to console
Because now I feel whole
I shouldn't be so glad
After all the time we had
I can't deny I've never felt happier
I'd never dream I'd think so
When you helped me through a rough time
And taught me how to try
Back then I thought it could last
But that is now the past
And now I can finally see
It just wasn't meant to be

"Gaze upon the stars often
With the eyes of a child
And know the Beauty
That exists without
Also exists within you.
For the Universe
Is but a mere Reflection
Of who you are."

Have you ever felt like you knew someone a long, long time ago?
Another place, another time, a friendship of the souls?
Two people who share a bond for reasons neither know,
A feeling that they were friends, a long, long time ago?

Did they stumble onto each other by pure circumstance,
Or was it fate and destiny that played a certain hand?
Two souls intertwined, they are worlds apart,
But the soul, it knows no difference, in matters of the heart.

Somehow they are drawn together, fate has brought them back,
Each living worlds apart, they journey separate paths.
When this life is over, and a new life begins,
Their souls will find each other, two souls that we call friends. wink.gif

I can’t sleep again
Just like every other night.
No matter how hard I try
No matter how much I fight
My body is exhausted
Why can’t I just sleep?
I never get to dreamland
My thoughts are way to deep.
My mind just keeps on wandering
It never takes a break
I just want it to stop sometimes
I’ve had all that I can take!

I want it all to end
I just want to fall asleep
And dream a special dream
That only I can keep
And when I awake
From a long and restful night
I will remember that dream
And in my heart I will hold it tight
For I will always remember
That restful euphoric feeling
For sleep to an insomniac
Is a kind of spiritual healing.

My Love Divine

There lies within this heart of mine,
A space so warm and deep.
This space is for my love divine,
His tenderness to keep.

Alone am I when you’re not here,
To say the words I want.
The air is filled with dread and fear,
My loneliness, you haunt.

I yearn so much to hold you close,
For a moment caught in time.
Or even longer if we chose.
Would heal this soul of mine.

When driving in your car alone,
I’ll hope you thought of me,
And yearned so much; to be back home,
This poetry to see.

My heart’s on fire, as you well know,
Though little did I think of this,
When, as friends we did grow.
And so, I’m yearning for your kiss.

I feel uplifted in my heart,
My burden I have shared.
I hope that we will never part.
I’m just so pleased you cared.

So, let’s go on, just as before,
And see what fate still brings.
You’re with me to my very core.
How gladly my heart sings.

the fresh sweet breeze
That feels its way through the firs
I'ts the breath of angels
The answer to your prayers

I gift to you the song
of the cystal water
Sparling cold in the stream
Sharing all its delightful notes
Of laughter and bliss

I share the light and warmth
of the sun
Lighting your face right now
The same light that
Gives glorious colors to the earth

All things seen and unseen
I share with you

Not quit poetry but a great note for all to read it will take just 37 seconds to read this and change your thinking.

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs. His bed was next to the room's only window.

The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back.

The men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation.

Every afternoon when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window.

The man in the other bed began to live for those one hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of the world outside.

The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats.

Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every color and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance. As the man by the window described all this in exquisite detail, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine the picturesque scene.

One warm afternoon the man by the window described a parade passing by.

Although the other man couldn't hear the band - he could see it In his mind's eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words.

Days and weeks passed.

One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefull in his sleep. She was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away.

As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone.

Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the real world outside.

He strained to slowly turn to look out the window beside the bed.

It faced a blank wall.

The man asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate who had described such wonderful things outside this window.

The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall.

She said, "Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you."

Epilogue: There is tremendous happiness in making others happy, despite our own situations. Shared grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared, is doubled

If you want to feel rich, just count all the things you have that money can't buy.

"Today is a gift, that's why it is called the present."

With Christmas coming on I thought I would come out of retirement. I really admire your work Elaine keep it up

Christmas eve

The night was silent but not one of us slept
all about the hoose our parents crept
we lay very still and pretended to sleep
through half shut eyes a continual peep
"has he been yet" said a little voice
get back to sleep or you’ll get no toys
I was at the stage where I didn’t believe
but still couldn’t sleep on Christmas eve

A few hours before we’d sat round the fire
writing to Santa on what we'd desire
we took it for granted that he would come
and despatched our notes up the lum
we never questioned his arrival
or our parents struggle for our survival
what a sacrifice it must have been
five boys aged between three and thirteen

We hung up our stockings above the fire
still damp from washing but getting drier
left a tot for Santa up on the brace
some water for the reindeer just in case
we got the usual about being good boys
and Santa wont come if we made a noise
so off to bed early around nine o’clock
the time dragged by slow tick slow tock

It was an unwritten rule not to rise before light
enforced by threats from the previous night
so we lay in bed all wide awake
waiting patiently for dawn to break
it was hard to distinguish night from day
the brightness of the moon and frost that lay
listening intently for the starting gun
and that Christmas day had officially begun

"Has he been yet"repeated the voice
no response no threatening noise
this was as good as getting the nod
to celebrate the birthday of God
morning couldn’t come to soon
so out of bed under a watchfull moon
into the kitchen straining to see
an Aladdin’s cave lay under the tree

I placed my hands over wee Alex’s eyes
parted them slowly and enjoyed his surprise
"he’s been he’s been" said an excited voice
echoed the world over by millions of boys
we got really brave and put on the light
it was a pleasure to see wee Alex’s delight
I ruffled his hair disturbing his locks
as he took his train set out of its box

Our presents were laid in five little piles
not much bigger than our gigantic smiles
we got one present that was classed as main
and a few smaller ones that were always the same
it came to the stage where I needn’t look
I always seemed to get a torch and book
that didn’t matter for I felt like a toff
and could read my book when the light was cut off

Christmas day would come and go
and Ma and da had nothing to show
I never saw my parents exchange a gift
and if they kissed it must’ve been swift
Christmas wasn’t celebrated in any big way
not like the festivities we have today
maybe it was because money was tight
and they kept it quiet on silent night

Kind words always become fighting fury.
Days and nights seem to be filled with worry.
They used to be in their own fairy tale.
Then the relationship started to fail.

Feelings diminished and one left behind;
Left alone with a memory filled mind.
The other moved on seeking another.
But would she find one more perfect lover?

They had seemed so wonderful together.
Ev’rything changed as quickly as weather.
Love changed to hate in the blink of an eye.
Suddenly, they were saying their good-byes;
No happy ending-but a severed heart.
Was fear what caused perfect lovers to part?

COLOURS

I am black, I am white, I am Asian, I am ME!!!
I have a soul, I have a heart and I bleed.
Look closely, who is inside this skin you see?
I am love, I am fear, I have dislikes, I have needs.

I have children, I am a child, I'm a woman, I'm a man.
Do you see me? Am I real? Can you feel my pain?
Can I touch your soul? Can I love you? YES I CAN!!!
To show love could heal this world again.

Can you see my anguish? Can you feel my love?
The pain in me is real, the laughter too is real.
I can hide my tears, my joy sits peaceful as a dove.
Love the children, give them peace, SET THEM FREE!!!

Show the children freedom, show them how to live.
Take away the colours, let them see the faces.
Give them back their innocence, show them how to give.
Show them that in many ways, there are no different races.

No death, no war, no hatred, never any strife.
The child in us needs love, needs peace, never pain.
Show us how to live in peace, to treasure love and life.
Have a love of learning, there is much for us to gain.

I love to write poetry, enjoy words and what I can do with them.

Cannie write poetry masel, but here's an auld wan o' the Brither's

I'm a skyscraper wean; I live on the nineteenth flair,
But I'm no' gaun oot tae play ony mair,
'Cause since we moved tae Castlemilk, I'm wastin' away
'Cause I'm getting' wan meal less every day:

Oh ye cannae fling pieces oot a twenty story flat,
Seven hundred hungry weans will testify to that.
If it's butter, cheese or jeely, if the breid is plain or pan,
The odds against it reaching earth are ninety-nine tae wan.

On the first day ma maw flung oot a daud o' Hovis broon;
It came skytin' oot the windae and went up insteid o' doon.
Noo every twenty-seven hours it comes back intae sight
'Cause ma piece went intae orbit and became a satellite.

On the second day ma maw flung me a piece oot wance again.
It went and hut the pilot in a fast low-flying plane.
He scraped it aff his goggles, shouting through the intercom,
"The Clydeside Reds huv goat me wi' a breid-an-jeely bomb."

On the third day ma maw thought she would try another throw.
The Salvation Army band was staunin' doon below.
"Onward Christian Soldiers" was the piece they should've played
But the oompahman was playing a piece an' marmalade.

We've wrote away to Oxfam to try an' get some aid,
An a' the weans in Castlemilk have formed a 'piece-brigade'.
We're gonnae march to George's Square demanding civil rights
Like nae mair hooses ower piece-flinging height.

I've thorouly enjoyed reading this page. I'm back tonight for my third reading of each poetic contributionas well as Martin's story. I hope it's o.k. with each of you but I've downloaded the page with a view to sharing your writings with friends. davie, you didn't mention your brother's name, so I guess I will just have to acknowledge the authour as "Davie's Brither" I would like to teach "The Castlemilk Piece" to my grandaughter in the hopes of having her recite it. I would really enjoy that. She does sing "ye canny throw your granny aff the bus" so maybe she'll get her tongue around this one. Thank you all, Martin, Elaine'Buggie, Davy and Davie.

I was cold and hurting
lost out in the night
wandering and searching
for heaven's light

I saw the night sky clearing
when you spread your rainbow wings
But little did I know
what joy you would bring

From that moment on
a friendship did start
you kissed away my tears
and sheltered my heart

I bless the day God
sent him from above
But then I grew fearful
for I had fallen in love

I told you this feeling
and what did you say?
You said you liked our friendship
and that's how it would stay

I cried for a friendship I thought I lost
But then felt your warm, gentle hand
You then whispered in my ear
that by my side you'll forever stand

It wiz the Brither's 65th Birthday on Friday and one o' the gandweans sent this

Adam Birthday Poem!

Over 50 - yet still so young,
Always cheery and having fun!
Top in Latin, top in Greek
Also Russian he can speak!
Norway, Sweden, Denmark too,
He could be a native of you!
He comes top in everything,
If you want talent, just hear him sing!
He could be dear Santa's twin,
Every fancy dress he would win!
If we're stuck and in a mess,
He can put our mind at rest!
When the answer is in doubt,
Adam's brains will help you out!

Son of Glasgow, Scotland's star,
We think he's the best by far

The Thistle of Scotia

Let the lily of France in luxuriance bloom,
Let the shamrock of Erin its beauty maintain,
Let the rose of fair England still waft its perfume,
But the Thistle of Scotia will dearest remain.
'Twas the badge that our fathers triumphantly wore
When they followed their sovereigns to vanquish the Dane,
The emblem our Wallace in battle aye bore;
Then the Thistle of Scotia must dearest remain.
It blooms on our mountains, it blooms in the vale,
It blooms in the winter, in snow, and in rain;
The type of her sons when rude seasons assail ~
To Scotia, her Thistle will dearest remain.

GLASGOW ( by Harry Moore )

Glasgow is a grey city, a "do it our way" city
A "children at play" city, a smile within the toll

Glasgow is a mean city, Segregated blue and green city
a "pride of having been" city, Passions on the boil

Glasgow is a loud city, a physically endowed city
A "reason to be proud" city, Subjects, every loyal

Glasgow is a kind city, a "put the past behind" city
Progressively inclined city, I'm proud to have been born upon its soil.

Its been a while so i thought you would like another. I got this from a 95 year old man who had it hanging on his wall, i dont know who wrote it but we all found it quite amusing at the office.

This is his life

From 20 to 30 - if a man lives right
Its once in the morning & twice at night
From 30 to 40 - If he still lives right
He misses a morning & sometimes at night
From 40 to 50 - Its just now and then
From 50 to 60 - Its god knows when
From 60 to 70 - If he's still inclined, -
But dont let him kid you
It's still in his mind!
His sporting days are over
His little light is out
What used to be his sex appeal
Is now his water spout
It used to be embarrassing
To make the thing behave
For, nearly every morning
It stood and watched him shave
But now it's getting older
It sure gives him the blues
To have it dangling down his legs
and watch him clean his shoes.

Sorry about putting this in this page, hope you like it.

The first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn't already know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder. I turned around to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up at me with a smile that lit up her entire being. She said, "Hi handsome. My name is Rose I'm eighty-seven years old. Can I give you a hug?" I laughed and enthusiastically responded, "Of course you may!" and she gave me a giant squeeze. "Why are you in college at such a young, innocent age?" I asked.

She jokingly replied, "I'm here to meet a rich husband, get married, and have a couple of kids..." "No seriously," I asked. I was curious what may have motivated her to be taking on this challenge at her age. "I always dreamed of having a college education and now I'm getting one!" she told me.

After class we walked to the student union building and shared a chocolate milkshake. We became instant friends. Every day for the next three months we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I was always mesmerized listening to this "time machine" as she shared her wisdom and experience with me. Over the course of the year, Rose became a campus icon and she easily made friends wherever she went. She loved to dress up and she revelled in the attention bestowed upon her from the other students. She was living it up. At the end of the semester we invited Rose to speak at our football banquet. I'll never forget what she taught us. She was introduced and stepped up to the podium. As she began to deliver her prepared speech, she dropped her three by five cards on the floor.

Frustrated and a little embarrassed she leaned into the microphone and simply said, "I'm sorry I'm so jittery. I gave up beer for Lent and this whiskey is killing me! I'll never get my speech back in order so let me just tell you what I know." As we laughed she cleared her throat and began, "We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing. There are only four secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success. You have to laugh and find humour every day. You've got to have a dream When you lose your dreams, you die. We have so many people walking around who are dead and don't even know it! There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don't do one productive thing, you will turn twenty years old. If I am eighty-seven years old and stay in bed for a year and never do anything I will turn eighty-eight. Anybody can grow older. That doesn't take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding opportunity in change. Have no regrets. The elderly usually don't have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death are those with regrets." She concluded her speech by courageously singing "The Rose"

She challenged each of us to study the lyrics and live them out in our daily lives.

At the year's end Rose finished the college degree she had begun all those years ago.

One week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her sleep. Over two thousand college students attended her funeral in tribute to the wonderful woman who taught by example that it's never too late to be all you can possibly be.

These words have been passed along in loving memory of ROSE.

REMEMBER, GROWING OLDER IS MANDATORY. GROWING UP IS OPTIONAL.

We make a Living by what we get, We make a Life by what we give.

God promises a safe landing, not a calm passage.

If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.

"Good friends are like stars.........You don't always see them, but you know they are always there.

Hope this brought a smile and a tear, and the knowledge that I never grew up, ask my friends....

I paid my last respects this mornin' on an early grave
Already said goodbye, nothin left to say
A tiny church a tiny town and not a tear was spent
Not how I wanted it, I'm hating all of this

Now I know why, I hide my love from you somedays
No I don't mind keeping this bottled inside me
You came along, and tore this wall down around me
Looks like you found me
Now I know why, I'm hating all of this

I've been a loser all my life, I'm not about to change
If you don't like, there's the door, nobody made you stay
There ain't a man on the planet who can deal with it
Just how I wanted it, I'm hating all of this

You came along, made me outgrow the song
you let me free myself, get my life off the shelf
I've been a loser all my life, i don't need to change
Looks like you found me, Just how i wanted it
I'm loving all of this!

Two Hearts

Your heart touched mine but you didn’t see
My tortured soul trying to reach out to grasp your love
Fear froze the embers of my being
Lost in time I couldn’t see
Two hearts entwined for all eternity
I was too frightened to take a chance on fate
But you were patient and waited for the right moment in time

Oh-I think my poems are a bit morbid-If I'm out of order I'm sure you will let me know-no offence taken

Why me?

Why me?
Cries the human whom cancer tears apart
Why me?
Cries the lover who has a broken heart
Why me?
Cries a mother who cannot bear her loss
Why me?
Said The Man as he hung upon the cross

Politics
Do you see the politicians
Grinning-mouthing -lying
Have you ever seen a slum
Dark verminous-dying?

I wandered today to the hills, Maggie
To watch the scene below
The creak and the creaking old mill, Maggie
As we used to long long ago
The green growth has gone from the hills, Maggie
Where first the daisies sprung
The creeking old mill is still Maggie,
Since you and I were young

They say that I'm feeble with age, Maggie
My steps are much slower than then
My face is a well written page, Maggie
And time all along was the pen
They say we have outlived our time, Maggie
As they did a song that we've sung
But to me you're as fair as you were, Maggie
When you and I were young

They say we have outlived our time, Maggie
As they did a song that we've sung
But to me you're as fair as you were, Maggie
When you and I were young
When you and I were young

Young and lovely, strong and sane,
Life's a lot of fun.
We snowmobile and laugh and hang
And don't hurt anyone.

You love my blue eyes and (dyed) red hair,
I love your mischievous smile and sense of humour
We drift a lot among the stars,
Then walk home single file.

Although we're just now starting out,
Only months together,
We'll settle down in Havana
And do the dance of love forever!

For Mums

Shoes in the kitchen, jeans on the floor
Basketballs lying at the back door
Living room carpet shows signs of wear
The fridge and the cupboards are constantly bare.

The toilet seat's up, it's stuck that way
The sports on TV blare all day
Racetracks, footballs, all kinds of toys
How did you guess, I'm the mother of boys.

No kids maself Marina but plenty Nephews an' Neices to appreciate the verse.

Thought this was good.

When Sam Small retired from the Army
He'd a pension of ninepence a day,
And seven pounds fourteen and twopence
He'd saved from his rations and pay.

He knew this 'ere wasn't a fortune,
But reckoned with prudence and care
He'd find some investment to save him
From hard work and things like that there.

He thought he'd invest in a race orse,
As apart from excitement and fun
He'd be able to sit down in comfort
And live on the money he won.

He knew buying 'orses was tricky,
But that didn't daunt him at all;
He said "They must rise early 't mornin
As wants to play tricks on Sam Small!"

When he called on the local 'Orse-dealer
Surprise rooted him to the spot,
For he found 'twere his old Comp'ny Sergeant,
Whose kindness he'd never forgot.

'Twere a happy reunion on both sides,
Their pleasure at meeting was great,
For each hoped to diddle the other
And wipe a few grudges off slate.

The Sergeant brought out his race 'orses,
For which he asked various sums;
They hadn't a tooth left between them,
But Sam knew their age by their gums.

Sam studied their lines and deportment
As Sergeant were trotting them round,
And told him he reckoned their value
Were fourpence, per race 'orse, per pound.

Now the Sarg. had a filly called Buster
As he hadn't said nothing about,
But when Sam turned his nose up at t'others
He thought as he'd best trot her out.

Sam were struck with her youthful appearance,
Though there wasn't much light in the place,
For her teeth were all pearly and even
And there wasn't a line on her face.

The Sergeant asked Sam twenty guineas,
But Sam, who were up to his tricks,
Pretended he thought he'd said shillings
And offered him eighteen and six.

In the end he paid eight guineas for her,
And when he'd got home with the goods
He reckoned he'd not done so badly,
For three of the guineas was duds.

But later, when he thought it over,
A doubt through his mind seemed to creep,
If Buster were all she were painted,
Why the Sergeant had sold her so cheap.

He very soon found out the answer
When he looked at her close in her stall,
She'd the marks where her face had been lifted
And a mouth full of false teeth an' all.

The little walk home had fatigued her
And the cold air had started her cough;
Sam reckoned he'd best see the Sergeant
And tell him the bargain was off.

The place were locked up when he got there,
And he realized Sergeant had bunked,
So back he went home in a dudgeon
And found Buster lying-defunct.

Sam knew if he wanted to sell her
He mustn't let on she were dead,
So he raffled her down at the Darts Club-
Forty members at five bob a head.

The raffle were highly successful,
They all came in every man jack
And so's winner'd have no cause to grumble
Sam gave him his five shillings back.

There's some great wee poets on this site!! I really enjoy reading all of them, whatever they may be about

and here's another for ye

I believe in sunshine, as it bakes away the blues;
but I believe in showers, and their mystic, cryptic clues.

I believe in oak trees, as they tower in the sky;
but roots are needed also, to help them reach so high.

I believe in eagles, as they spread their mighty wings;
but mice are very real, as well, and other nasty things.

I believe in waterfalls, as nature's voice of power;
but tidal waves and floods will come, at any given hour.

I believe in silence, as a gentle peace within;
but I believe in chaos, with all its senseless din.

The coin will have its heads and tails,
despite our frantic rants and rails.

Without chaotic stress and strain,
could peace be truly known again?

DULCE ET DECORUM EST

Bent double, like old beggars under sacks,
Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge,
Till on the haunting flares we turned our backs
And towards our distant rest began to trudge.
Men marched asleep. Many had lost their boots
But limped on, blood-shod. All went lame; all blind;
Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots
Of tired, outstripped Five-Nines that dropped behind.

Gas! Gas! Quick, boys! – An ecstasy of fumbling,
Fitting the clumsy helmets just in time;
But someone still was yelling out and stumbling,
And flound'ring like a man in fire or lime . . .
Dim, through the misty panes and thick green light,
As under a green sea, I saw him drowning.
In all my dreams, before my helpless sight,
He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning.

If in some smothering dreams you too could pace
Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
His hanging face, like a devil's sick of sin;
If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood
Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,
Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud
Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,
My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie; Dulce et Decorum est
Pro patria mori.

8 October 1917 - March, 1918

DULCE ET DECORUM EST - the first words of a Latin saying (taken from an ode by Horace). The words were widely understood and often quoted at the start of the First World War. They mean "It is sweet and right." The full saying ends the poem: Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori - it is sweet and right to die for your country. In other words, it is a wonderful and great honour to fight and die for your country .

I had a one year OTC with the Gordon Highlanders. My bruv was in the army for 32 years. My niece is in the army now - and her cousins have seen Iraq and the Gulf. My grandad was in the Seaforth Highlanders and brought us back a Nazi flag.

If I had the choice, I think my grandad fought for a just cause. It was not a sweet lie. The Iraq and Ireland wars - I think they are very much sweet lies. I got no sympathy with those who fight for religious or oil rights.

Never say i love you
If you don't really care
Never talk about feelings
If the feelings aren't there
Never hold my hand
if you are going to break my heart
Never say you are going to
If you don't plan to start
Never look into my eyes
If all they do is lie
Never say hello
If you really mean goodbye
If you really mean forever
Then say you will try
Never say never
Cause never makes me cry

A Porcelain Doll:

May is a happy time, when children run and play.
Their little lives so innocent and their toys not far away.
In the month of May, so long ago; there was a child so sweet,
Her little face would bring a smile, to all whom she would meet.

With jet black hair, and olive skin; and eyes of brightest blue,
She’d run to other children saying; “please can I play with you?”
She was a little darling, a lovely porcelain doll.
She never thought of danger, but soon this child would fall.

A railway crossing can be fun, to those who know them well.
Alas a little child like she – there was no way to tell.
She ran along a track to cross, her sister there to meet.
Her sister cried “No please don’t come” and fell down to her feet.

This little child so warm and kind across the track did lay.
And God did, on that fateful day; take this child away.
No greater grief is there to bear, than of a death so young.
When other children run and play in May, just having fun.

Your wee great grand-daughter is the little piece of brightness in your life, not just right now Jakka but all the time - we move on because we have to move on - little people like this need us, very much indeed - but that doesn't ever mean we forget those who are sick or those who are no longer with us, in the physical sense, because as I'm sure you will agree, they are always and forever right there in your heart.

Glad to know you're ok.

By James Elroy Flecker

I who am dead a thousand years,
And wrote this sweet archaic song,
Send you my words for messengers
The way I shall not pass along.

I care not if you bridge the seas,
Or ride secure in the cruel sky,
Or build consummate palaces
Of metal or of masonry.

But have you wine and music still,
And statues and a bright-eyed love,
And foolish thoughts of good and ill,
And prayers to them who sit above?

How shall we conquer? Like a wind
That falls at eve our fancies blow,
And old Maeonides the blind
Said it three thousand years ago,

O friend unseen, unborn, unknown,
Student of our sweet English tongue,
Read out my words at night, alone:
I was a poet, I was young.

Since I can never see your face,
And never shake you by the hand,
I send my soul through time and space
To greet you. You will understand.

I like this one, don't know why but i do wink.gif

Just friends, is all we'll be,
because you are the one who can't see,
how much I care and what I feel,
why can't my dreams just all become real.

If they were real then you would be,
not with her, but with me,
why cant you see, all I want is you,
why cant you tell me you like me too.

But alas, I see that you cannot,
so we must stay in this very spot,
so, just friends, is what we'll be,
only friends, for eternity.

PHENOMENAL WOMAN
by Maya Angelou

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies
I'm not cute or built to suit a model's fashion size
But when I start to tell them
They think I'm telling lies.
I say
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips
The stride of my steps
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally
Phenomenal woman
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please
And to a man
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees
Then they swarm around me
A hive of honey bees.
I say
It's the fire in my eyes
And the flash of my teeth
The swing of my waist
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally
Phenomenal woman
That's me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say
It's in the arch of my back
The sun of my smile
The ride of my breasts
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally
Phenomenal woman
That's me.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say
It's in the click of my heels
The bend of my hair
The palm of my hand
The need for my care.
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally
Phenomenal woman
That's me.

This one is for my friend and colleague Norman who passed away suddenly last week - He lived a life that was full in a short time, you are missed!

There is no threnody for utter darkness,
Nor dirge for nothingness, nor song for silence.
I sing to you in all your piercing presence.
You are not gone, but haunting in your nearness.
My pain is unrelenting in its starkness,
Unmerciful. Your ever-present absence
Becomes the heart of me, my grieving essence,
As I hold you in the shadow of your stillness.
Ah, my dear friend! I'll not let you go
Though years pass through the chamber of my sorrow
And memory alight upon my will.
Sweet winds may through my open windows blow,
Yet I will sing to you upon the morrow
And dance with you across the sunlit sill.

From darkness lead me to Light
From death lead me to eternal life.

Mere Words

I searched among the card displays,
To see if I could find,
A little something that would say
Just what was on my mind.

However there was not a one,
That captured it just right,
For no one else can understand
Just what I'd like to write.

I even find it difficult
To try to write it down,
For how do I portray to you,
The love that I have known?

I close my eyes and what I see,
Is someone I adore;
A person who is beautiful,
Right down into their soul.

Mere words cannot describe
The many qualities you show,
The love and caring nature that
You share with those who know.

Your kind and gentle temperament,
Your sweet angelic smile,
Your softly spoken sentiments,
That reach across the miles.

Your smile and laugh that sparkle with
The softness of your sighs,
The way your face lights up a room ...
That twinkle in your eye.

The loving gestures through the years,
That quickly come to mind,
For always you've a gentle word
To calm and soothe I find.

I struggle and I search to try
To find some words anew ...
And yet I cannot capture
All the things that make you you.

I shall therefore, be satisfied
That you must simply know,
Just how I feel about you,
For with words I cannot show.

Translation:

The poem spins over the head of a man
in circles close now now far

The man discovers it tries to possess it
but the poem disappears

The man makes his poem
from whatever he can grasp

That which escapes
will belong to future men

Sorry you can't define me
Sorry I break the mold
Sorry that I speak my mind
Sorry don't do what I'm told
Sorry if I don't fake it
Sorry I come too real
I will never hide what I really feel. No way

Sorry if I ain't perfect
Sorry I don't give a -what-
Sorry I ain't a diva
Sorry just know what I want
Sorry I'm not a virgin
Sorry I'm not a slut
I won't let you break me
Think what you want

To all my dreamers out there - I'm with you
All my underdogs, I feel you
Lift your head high and stay strong
Keep pushin' on

Standing by,
All the way.
Here to help you through your day.

Holding you up,
When you are weak,
Helping you find what it is you seek.

Catching your tears,
When you cry.
Pulling you through when the tide is high.

Just being there,
Through thick and thin,
All just to say, you are my friend.

Placing one foot in front of the other,
I've climbed to higher heights.
Reaching beyond my own limitations
Showing my inner strengths.
No obstacle too hard for this warrior to overcome.
I'm just a woman on a mission
To prove my fears haven't won.

You may not have ever seen me
But you know that I am here.
You can feel me in your heart
As you enter each new day.

I will always be there for you
I am your friend.

Someone to share the good times
As well as the bad.
I make no judgments by what you say
I just listen with my heart and
Hope to be of help in anyway I can.

I will be there for you now and forever
And always please remember
I am your friend!

I lie on the ground, and stare into space,
the stars start to move, into the shape of your face.

I see you there now, looking down at me,
with that cute little smile, that I like to see.

You say "close your eyes", "tell me what you see",
I see only two people, just you and me.

We're walking the shoreline, with our feet getting wet,
the horizon turns pink, as the sun starts to set.

We make love through the night, on that white sandy shore,
then I hold you while thinking, I could want nothing more.

Oh I wish I could be, in that one special place,
as I lie on the ground, and I stare into space...

Posted by: ElaineMcFarlane 8th Jul 2005, 11:46pm

Never lie, steal, cheat, or drink.
But if you must lie,
lie in the arms of the one you love.
If you must steal,
steal away from bad company.
If you must cheat,
cheat death.
And if you must drink,
drink in the moments that take your breath away.

Posted by: ElaineMcFarlane 13th Jul 2005, 05:52pm

I should have held on tight I never should've let go
I didn't know anything,I was stupid
I was lying to myself
I couldn't fathom that I would ever be without your love
Never imagined I'd be sitting here by myself

I didn't know you because I didn't know me
But I thought I knew everything
I've never felt the feeling that I'm feeling
Now that I don't hear your voice or have your touch, kiss your lips
What I wouldn't give to have you by my side

When you left I lost a part of me,
It's so hard to believe your gone
Come back please we belong together
Who else am I gonna lean on when times get tough
Who's gonna talk to me until the sun comes up
Who's gonna take your place, there ain't nobody better

I can't sleep at night with thoughts of you on my mind
Wait a minute this is too deep
I gotta change the pace so I turn the corner
Trying to catch a break and then I see your face
I only think of you and it's breaking my heart
I'm trying to keep it together but I'm falling apart

I'm feeling all out of my element, crying
Trying to figure out where the hell it went wrong
The pain reflected in this poem ain't even half of what I'm feeling
I need you, I want you, crave you back in my life
Come back please we belong together

This was written many years ago when my wee daughter was five... now she has just turned 20... Where has all the years gone????

ANGEL FACE

Her long golden hair
Stretches down to the
Silky white ribbon
around her waist.

She sits in her party dress
Posing for the camera.

Her upturned lips,
Shows the dimple
On her right cheek.

For a few seconds there’s silence.
She pauses for the moment,

Peace perfect peace.
Suddenly!!!
She breaks into a sea of words,

Full of questions
Full of wonder
Unlimited vocabulary,

“Why do people need to take photo’s Mummy”?
“What colour are your eyes Mummy”?
“Did you used to be five Mummy”?

At least I can enjoy ‘this’ silent moment
Looking at my wee angels photo,
While she’s in bed sleeping.

Peace perfect peace!

The skeletons
Who had previously resided in my closet,
Have now taken the form of angels.
The evenings take shape as they float above;
Somewhere between the cold white ceiling
And my own self.
Barely breathing,
But already so dead,
The walls of my essence are bare,
And I've broken all of the mirrors in my heart.
My neighbors have a cat and a telephone,
And even though I "see" someone,
There's no one to talk to
But the kitchen sink.

The day is over,
The night begins
The world becomes sober,
Without a sound,
We sit and stare,
At the beauty of the sunset,
Completely unaware,
Of the serenity, the peace and the brilliant colors.
We just look into the sunset and see one another,
As we laugh and as we play,
And we look back upon the day.
And when the sun finally vanishes from sight,
We all go to bed and all say "Goodnight"

There i am sitting on the bus
you walk on, daughter beside
stolen glances along the way
fidgety hands, no rings on fingers
kisses, though not for me
we reach the bus stop
you leave my side,
one last look, our eyes meet,
the first time
the last time
this romance is dead

Part of a poem from Robert Leighton

Scotch Words

They speak in riddles north beyond the Tweed,
The plain, pure English they can deftly read;
Yet when without the book they come to speak,
Their lingo seems half English and half Greek.

Their jaws are chafts, their hands when closed are neives,
Their bread's not cut in slices, but in sheives,
Their armpits are their oxters, palms are lufts,
Their men are chields, their timid fools are cuiffs,
Their lads are callants, and their women kimmers,
Good lasses denty queens, and bad ones limmers,
They thole when they endure, scart when they scratch;
And when they give a sample it's a swatch,
Scolding is flytin', and a long palaver
Is nothing but a blether or a haver.
This room they call the but and that the ben,
And what they do not know they dinna ken.
On keen cold days they say the wind blaws snell,
And they have words that Johnson could not spell,
And when they wipe their nose they dicht their byke,
As imph'm which means - anything you like;
While some, though purely English, and well known,
Have yet a Scottish meaning of their own:
To prig is to plead, beat down a thing in cost;
To coff is to purchase, and a cough's a host,
To crack is to converse; the lift's the sky;
And bairns are said to greet when children cry.
When lost, folk never ask the way they want -
They speir the gate, and when they yawn they gaunt,
Beetle with them 's a clock, a flame's a lowe,
Their straw is strae, chaff, cauff, and hollow, howe;
A pickle means a few, muckle is big;
And a piece of crockery ware is called a pig.

When an old lady died in the geriatric ward of a hospital in England, it appeared she had left nothing of value.

The nurse, packing up her possessions, found this poem. The quality so impressed the staff that copies were distributed to all the nurses in the hospital.

This poem then later appeared in the Christmas edition of "Beacon House News," a magazine of the Northern Ireland Mental Health Association. This was the Lady's bequest for posterity.

What do you see nurse,
What do you see?
What are you thinking
When you look at me?
A crabby old woman,
Not very wise,
Uncertain of habit
With far away eyes.

Who dribbles her food
And makes no reply;
Then you say in a loud voice,
"I do wish you'd try."
Who seems not to notice
The things that you do,
And forever is losing
A stocking or shoe.

Unresisting or not,
Lets you do as you will;
With bathing or feeding,
The long day to fill.
Is that what you're thinking,
Is that what you see?
Then open your eyes nurse,
You're not looking at me.

I'll tell you who I am,
As I sit here so still,
As I move at your bidding,
As I eat at your will.

I'm a small child of ten ...
With a father and mother,
And brothers and sisters
Who love one another.

A girl of sixteen,
With wings on her feet;
Dreaming that soon,
A lover she'll meet.

A bride soon at twenty ...
My heart gives a leap;
Remembering the vows
That I promised to keep.

At twenty-five,
I have young of my own,
Who need me to build
A secure and happy home.

A woman of thirty,
My young now grow fast,
Bound together with ties
That forever should last.

At forty, my young ones
Have grown up and gone;
But my man is beside me
To see I don't mourn.

At fifty, once more ...
Babies play 'round my knees;
Again we know children,
My loved ones and me.

Dark days are upon me,
My husband is dead ...
I look at the future,
I shudder with dread;
For my young are all rearing,
Young of their own,
And I think of the years
And the love I have known.

I am an old woman now,
Nature is cruel,
'Tis her jest to make old age
Look like a fool.

The body, it crumbles,
Grace and vigor depart,
There is now a stone
Where I once had a heart.

But inside this old carcass,
A young girl still dwells,
And now and again
My battered heart swells.

I remember the joys,
I remember the pain,
And I'm loving and living
Life over again.

I think of the years ...
All too few, gone too fast,
And accept the stark fact
That nothing can last.

So open your eyes nurses,
Open and see ...
Not a "Crabbit Old Woman,"
Look closer ... see "Me."

As so many of us are multi-generation and removed from the auld sod, it is sometimes hard to express our sentiments, but this song seems to do an adequate job...

(Sung to the tune of Scotland the Brave. Can be sung in the traditional tempo, or as a slow air. The author suggests doing the first verse and chorus as a slow air, acappello, and the rest of the piece at the traditional tempo with pipes and drums accompanying)

Hush! Hush! The pipes are calling
Now when the twilight’s falling
Though we are far from our ancestors’ lands
Our hearts are Highland still
Our souls go where we will
We are Highlanders wherever we stand.

Chorus:
Proud of our heritage
Scotland from age to age
Strongly and proudly may our people stand!
Our blood still runs strong
To you our hearts belong
A Scot is a Scot
No matter where the land.

Nations can’t match the claim
Of wild Scotland’s shining name
Her sons and her daughters are spread far and wide
Through sword, war and famine cruel
Her foes have been proved the fool
There’s millions on millions filled with strong Gaelic pride

Chorus:
No matter what the nation
Countless of generations
Learn our traditions, our tales and our songs
Although our blood’s not pure
Of one thing we’re very sure
The Highlands and Islands are where our hearts belong

Hark! Hark! The pipes are calling
Down from the mountains falling,
Across the prairies and down to the sea!
We feel the Highland songs
In our hearts still beating strong
That’s where our souls belong, Scotland The Brave.

Chorus:
Proud of our heritage
Scotland from age to age
Strong, proud and free, may our people stand!
Our blood still runs strong
To you our hearts belong
A Scot is a Scot
No matter where the land.

(sung slower)
A Scot is a Scot
No matter where the land.

Autumn Reverie

The beauty of an azure sky
The singing of the birds on high

The beauty of the hills beyond
And fallen leaves upon a pond

Orange and red and yellow too
The magic of fall for me and you

It gladdens my heart to see this time
A favoured walk with friends of mine

We walk amid a carpet of bronze
Listening to birds, singing their songs

I think of the good times and throw off the bad
To dwell on those memories would make me so sad

A walk in the forest with leaves all around
Alone with my thoughts, and no other sound

Our lives are as short as the seasons that pass
So tender our hearts – as they shatter like glass

Live out all your seasons with joy in your soul
Bring pleasure to others – let this be your goal.

I have posted this one before - but I thought it a wee reminder of the season we are now in.

And green ghosts howl,

The man who buys me a drink can sit next to me
The man who sits next to me can talk with me
The man who talks to me may become my friend
The man who becomes my friend may phone me
The man who phones me may ask me out
The man who asks me out may show me love
The man who shows me love may come home with me
The man who comes home with me may stay with me
The man who stays may be worth the wait
The man who was worth the wait may be worth buying a drink for

Nothing wrong with taking the first step, you may be worth the wait for someone. huh.gif

Why did we cross the line?
Everything would be fine -
Just one moment of pleasure
well two but still all this pain;
Can you tell me now what did we gain?
Everything would be OK -
Normal as it was,
But no - we had to go too far -
We had to cross that line
I would never turn back time,
For every moment I learn.
It's just things are so different now -
Things between you and me.
Why didn't I open my eyes?
Why didn't I only see
That what we had enjoyed back then
Would be the end to you and me?

Sing of the holidays that end the year!
Each cause for celebration and reflection.
As darkness rules the earth, sing of good cheer,
Sustained by will and nourished by affection.
Of Christmas, Hanukkah, and New Year's Eve,
Now sing that you might magnify the light!
Sing, for in your joy you will believe,
Granted grace throughout the bitter night.
Rekindle for these reckonings the fire
Each carries as a favor to the heart,
Eloquent of rapture and desire,
Twin grounds of both sincerity and art.
In quest of fellowship and common feeling,
Needing company, nor care concealing,
Giving and receiving equal measure,
Sing, then, of passion, faith, and simple pleasure!

When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low, and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit ---
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.

Success is failure turned inside out,
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems afar,
So, stick to the fight when you're hardest hit --
It's when things go wrong that you mustn't quit.

Smiling is infectious, you catch it like the flu.
When someone smiled at me today I started smiling too.
I walked around the corner and someone saw me grin.
Suddenly I realised that I'd passed it onto him.
I thought about the smile a lot and realised it's worth.
A single smile like mine I thought could travel round the Earth.
So if you feel a smile begin don't leave it undetected
Start an epidemic quick and get the world infected.

It's been a busy day
time has quickly gone
On your pillow lay your head
in your mind put a song

Allow peace to seep inside
let the angels lull you to sleep
Leave your cares behind you
for tomorrow they will keep

Good night, sweet dreams
go have your rest
As you arise tomorrow
you'll be your best

Good Night!

Its been a while so here it goes:

I don't know exactly who I am
I'm still learning in everything I do
I know that I'm disorganized
and I've lost a thing or two
I know that I can be quiet and shy
and shut off and insecure at times
But I know that my soul is open and free
Just look at how easy I rhyme <3
I'm also stubborn and pigheaded
but I really do try my best
I even admit I'm not always right
(but please, don't tell the rest)
I always try to be optimistic
even when I've lost my way
Because I know that each star promises
that tomorrow will be a brand new day
I always try to be happy
though sometimes sad thoughts break through
but I don't stay down too long
because eventually I'll think of you
I know that I love to laugh
and sometimes it's nice to cry
And I know I'd rather hear the truth
than stand victim to a lie
I know there are so many things to do and learn
and all before i die
But while I figure things out
there is one thing I've learned is true
I am everything that I am today
Because I have been blessed by meeting you.

Poetry isn't something I get into very often, but I've just finished reading some of yours Elaine, and I must say I quite enjoyed it. At school I remember trying to write poetry, but it was a talent away beyond anything I had... a talent I might say, in which you appear to be rather rich. While reading the poems, it seems to me one gets lost in what's being read. Perhaps that's what poetry is all about; anyway, thanks for the moments of peacefulness your words showed me. Cheers Dugadl.

I can’t describe the depth of my awkward mind.
Like a bird flying in the air,
my mind is opening its arms broadly and soaring away,
Having everything doesn’t please it in the slightest.
It’s starving–– something is missing.
Will learning ever come to an end, or will it
become an insatiable being intent on knowing all.
As my inquiring mind keeps thinking, time is passing me by.
Summer-Autumn-Winter, all float on by.
It’s time for Spring to come, and my mind is worried
will this year take me to my last stop,
and will my mind ever arrive at its destination?

When did I stop being a girl?
Wearing pink dresses, my hair in bows.
When did I stop being happy?
Always hyper, always yappy.

I want to be little again,
I don't want to cry.
I want to eat lollies,
I don't want to lie.

I have lost my innocence, you see?
This miserable creature, isn't me!
Why am I now this indifferent thing?
I wish I could go outside, skip and sing.

Things that happened along the way
will with me always stay
The beers, the tears,
the boys with their ploys

So much has been but all I want
is to have my life back!

I couldn't come back on here after so long and not leave a little poem behind, so here goes:

Christmas is a time of little time.
How we get there is a mystery.
Racing madly from shop to shop,
spending our money until we drop
Shopping, cooking, clearing paths of snow,
Trimming house and tree all while working, too;
Making phone calls, wrapping, writing cards,
as worn out as we are, we must do what we must do
So that this day of joy might joy renew.

Happy Holidays

Happy Holidays! Whichever ones
Apply: Jewish, Christian, secular!
Practicing people are not particular,
Perhaps because all people carry buns.
Year's end's a time of darkness, true, but when
Has darkness ever darkened one small light?
Our pleasures are like candles in the night,
Lighting lamps that burn beyond our ken.
In celebration there is more than joy:
Days of feasting bind our friendships fast,
A fat and full embrace of things that last,
Yet holy in what sense one might employ,
Savoring sweet songs that spirits buoy.

BEHAVE

If i were to say to you won't you please behave
would the sun not shine and moon not glow
and stars not twinkle bright

If i were to say to you please won't you behave
would the earth not turn and the clocks all stop
and the summer fade away

But if i were to say to you if you did behave
the world would be a sadder place of that im oh so sure
for in this world when things are down and im a wee bit blue
im really glad you don't behave
it makes me feel so good

Floating freely in a Fantasizing Fling
Enjoying the ever changing scenes.
Scenes which alter with my whims
Playing it over and over again.
Changing this or...changing that
To make the fantasy feel light.
Letting the images played to fill
My feelings in such a glow,
That it isn't really happening
Is hard to know.
So enjoyable is such a thing
To float in a Fantasizing Fling.

Here you come,
creeping back in.
Inside your ever-changing tastes,
once again, I'm the flavor of the day.
Are we still the same?
Now I'm burning in vain.
I gave you too many chances,
and you left me standing alone in the rain.
I loved you too much,
and then I learned it wasn't worth the pain
I brought down on myself.
I still love you so very much,
and here I am,
the flavor of the day,
melting alone in the rain.

Poems are crazy. Poems are sweet.
Poems tell us a story, They go with a beat.
Pick it up and never put it down,
poems are great and always make silent sounds.

Every word counts, they pounce on your face,
slow down and enjoy them, it's not a race.

Poems can be fun if you make them to be,
poems are easy and so much fun, you see!

Poems are like fruit.
They are juicy and delicious.

Have a piece won't you, come in
and enjoy the words flow into your mind.

Poems are great. Poems are kind.
Poems are wacky, poems are mine.

Aye, Glesca' is ma hame
Bein' brocht up in a tenement
made me a typical Glasca' Wean

Ah didnae hae very many toys
Like the weans a' hiv the day
Ma pals were happy girls an' boys
An' there wis lots o' games tae play

We'd play at 'Cowboys an' Indians'
We played at 'Hide an' seek'
When we coonted tae 100 nice an' fast
An' ye wirnae allowed tae peek.

Then we'd tie some string thre' two tin cans
An' we'd put them oan oor feet
An' stomp like Dracula's Monster
Right up an' doon oor street

There wis 'Doublers', 'Ropes' an' 'Kick the can'
We played 'Rounders' roon the back
The we'd sit oan toap o' the midden
Tellin' Ghost Stories 'til it got dark

We'd walk tae the Picture Matinee
Oan a Seturday efternoon
Where a man came oot tae make us a' sing
An' wave hankies in time tae the tune

But even tho' we hidnae Dolls like Barbie or like Sindy
Ye could shout up tae yer Maw fer a piece oan Jam an' she'd
Throw it oot the windae!

TO ROBERT BURNS

January, cold was biting hard ,
The wind began to whistle
My muse was on the ayrshire bard,
The haggis,mouse and thistle,
That red red rose his own true love
Jean Armour,fair and sweet.
Surely now in heaven above,
He worshipped at her feet.

Blessed only by his scottish birth
His days were filled with toil,
A ploughman to his wee bit earth,
Harsh unforgiving soil,
But end of day would his soul inspire,
His pen was glad to take,
And the labourer worthy of his hire,
Sweeter verse and song did make.

He told his tales of love in rhyme,
Witches, ghosts and Tam O` Shanter,
They still today like sprigs of thyme,
Add fragrance to lifes banter.
His song of Auld Lang Syne goes on,
And as the world turns,
It`s a better place for gods good grace
And the birth of Robert Burns.

ANOTHER ONE WHILE AM HERE. biggrin.gif

I`M LATE

"I`m late" she said happily, with his
breakfast on the plate,
"It`s got twin carburettors" said he,
"doesnt it look great"?
She asked him for some money,
"I`ve got to do a test"
Fourteen hundred for the old one,
He thought,fifteen at best.
Deposit sorted, cut down on cigs and beer,
Forget Ibiza, holiday at home again this year.
Two can live as cheap as one.
We wont get in a state,
Tighten up our belts a bit,
that patio set can wait.
Feeling smug he leered"It`s early yet"
"Come back to bed a while"
"I`m late" she said, and took away
the plate,without the smile.
"It will be worth the sacrifice" he said,
"You`ll love this car,just wait"
She said "You selfish B^%$£&D,cant you
hear me?" "I AM LATE"

D is for Dreamer,
Of which I am one
Sometimes it’s scary,
Often it’s fun.

N is for Nation,
Both large & small,
Proudly standing,
Upright and tall.

A is for Apple,
Bitter or sweet,
We take a bite,
Our teeth, they meet.

Like the stuff, were made of
All three of these,
Complex and intriguing,
As Birds and Bees.

But when all three
Are put together,
They symbolise,
Much more than weather.

The building blocks
Of life, are they?
That wondrous, ponderous, D-N-A!

Couples they come,
couples they go,
back & forth,
to and fro'.

Some survive,
through thick & thin,
others are confined
to a relationship bin!

Like our shadows,

being husbands,
sometimes wives.

But one thing,

you loved me,

I now pronounce you man and wife.
You may now kiss the bride.
I'm now committed
And for life
But how long will I bide
?

She stands beside me
Smiling on
Lovely in her dress
I shouldn't be here
I should be gone
Created my own mess

Outside the cameras, loaded, wait
To snap the happy pair
And I, distracted; seeing a mate,
Leave her standing there
As lenses focus;
Whirred and zoomed.
From this first moment
Our match was doomed.

I recollect in early life
I loved the local doctor"s wife.
I ate an apple every day
to keep the doctor far away.
Alas, he was a jealous man
and grew suspicious of my plan.
He noticed several pips about
when taking my appendix out.
Although I squared the thing somehow
I always eat bananas now.

They Said We'd Never Make It
by Nicholas Gordon

They said we'd never make it,
But now we've come this far.
Today we celebrate our love
And honour who we are.
We had a hard beginning,
Adults before our time.
But growing up together made
Our deepest roots entwine.

You are my life, my love, my hope,
My friend, my world, my song,
The mirror of my unseen heart,
The place where I belong.

And as our one life passes,
Through love we live for two:
A cornucopia of joy
That we this day renew.

Tomorrow it might just Rain

What makes a perfect
summers day?,
is it wispy clouds,
and whiff's of hay?

Perhaps its answering,
questions 'why',
from curious minds,
so hard - but still we try

I like to think,
its many's a thing,
which creates life's
pleasures, and doth bring

A warmth within,
a calm refrain,
which gladdens hearts,
with no disdain

Be grateful, then,
for perfect days,
for paddling pools,
and sunny rays

Savor every moment,
glad,
for you never know,
when things turn sad

No need for sorrow,
no need for gain,
For Tomorrow,
It might just Rain

Angels Of The Deep

Beneath the lonely lunar lighting
Of the moon and stars above
I wondered if all hope had gone
Since you have found new love
From the quiet deck I pondered
Out upon the sullen sea
What shore could fate desert me to
Like you discarded me.

Twas then I saw the waters break
From beneath the becalm-ed blue
Seven dancing darting dolphins
Came up leaping into view
Breaching waves in unison,flying high
Then down descending low
Like cosmic cats a-chasing mice
Hither,thither, there they`d go.

Those twirling,birling,bottlenosed
Angels of the deep
Only served to remind me
Of your love I couldn`t keep
But suddenly I realised
Gods own messengers swimming free
Had simply come to tell me
There are more fish in the sea.

Hi Elaine, I sarted a thread named Long lst [missed the O] horizons a couple of weeks ago unaware of your poems one. I thought that mine would be moved into yours, but it wasn't so I would like to post all my entries into yours if that is okay as i believe that's where they should have went. I will post 4 or 5 a day. If you disagree let me know and I will stop.[My posts are not all as depressing as the first few are] Thanks James

Wee Davy gave the info regarding this thread

I wrote this in late 1978 at the age of 19. I had a nightmare about being eaten by millions of insects in my bed and when I awoke in the morning I found I had pulled my bed away from the wall although I didn’t remember doing so. This made me remember nightmares I had most nights over a two/three month period when I was only four or five years old about little horrible men who came out of the toilet bowl at night who I called the lavvypan men. They carried swords and spears and were out to kill us. I always awoke at the point where their swords and spears were coming through our living room door where I along with my parents and sister and brother were struggling to keep the door closed. The lyrics are about re- occurring nightmares, Long lost horizons being the past before the disturbing frightening nightmares began and horizons that glow in the morning is hope that the nightmares might end in the not so far away future. In other words your life will be like it was before the nightmares started. I wrote this attempting to write using the style of lyric writing of Bill Nelson the front man of Be bop Deluxe.

Long lost horizons
You wake up at night whilst the cold winds are howling
Alone in the dark with the worst of your fears
What was that noise that you heard by the window?
Go back to sleep and dry up your tears
Dream nightmares that haunt you from their beginnings
Eating you’re brain till you’re mad in the head
Dream of the shadows that chase you forever
Dream of a life in the land of the dead

Long lost horizons that glow in the morning sun
With blue seas so deep yet so plain
Where strange empty cloudless skies
You see through you’re dreaming eyes
Show signs that tomorrow might rain [/i

Hold out your hands and you’ll catch the rain falling
Then drop to your knees and pray for the sun
And hope that tomorrow the nightmares have ended
Then think of tonight for they’ve only begun
Don’t try to hide as you know that they’ll find you
And don’t try to run for you’ll never get far
Sooner or later they’ll come without warning
Destroying your mind you won’t know who you are

Posted by: jamcat 3rd Feb 2011, 08:44am

This was written in late 1979 when I went back up to work in a little village about 25 miles from Dundee. I had been in a relationship with a girl for about 4 months and decided to take a job I had done there 18 months previous. She told me that we would be finished but I took the job. But as I couldn’t get one here in Glasgow I took it but came back to Glasgow every weekend to be with her. After about 6 weeks I could tell that she was going to ditch me and I realised that I had taken her for granted and that I really wanted to keep her so I quit the job on the grounds that I would rather be unemployed than lose her. I returned to Glasgow and remember all the things I thought while up in that tiny lonely little hamlet and I wrote this along with some others as a reminder to myself that the job would be the end of a good relationship. This is basically about the things in life that get you trapped and the feeling that you can do nothing about them.

When we live with our backs to the wall
Take what you’ve got, get out while you can
Remember it’s not yet too late
You maybe feel down, but things could be worse
You might find that she will not wait
And when you’re alone with you’re thoughts to yourself
Thinking of things from your past
You will know that tomorrow will be like today
For you’ll find that your futures been cast

Life’s like a dream, sometimes good sometimes bad
And sometimes it’s nothing at all
Sometimes we’re happy but mostly we’re sad
When we live with our backs to the wall

There’s only yourself to blame for your faults
And nothing can change what’s been done
You might laugh and say that you lived life in jest
And everything was meant in fun
But who’s laughing now for I know it’s not you
Your laughter has long died away
You’re on your last chance so you better take care
Or you might feel much worse than today

Life goes too fast, we are gone before long
We go without knowing it all
Sometimes we’re right but mostly we’re wrong
When we live with our backs to the wall

When I worked at that sawmill in that tiny village I phoned my girlfriend as often as I could. There was no public phone or shop or anything (A mobile shop came 2 days a week) and I couldn’t phone her during the day as she was at her work. We did write to each other a couple of times a week and I would phone her when I was in Forfar in the occasional evening. The week before I quit the job I got a letter from her telling me that she loved me but was not prepared to carry on the way we were. I phoned her when I got her letter and told her that I had given a week’s notice and that I would be back for good the following week. And so saved our relationship for another 3 and a half years and wrote this the day I received that letter from her about October 1979. I sort of looked on my time in that place as one very long day and Tomorrow was meant not as the next day but the following week when I could go home for good.

When it comes tomorrow
You’re in my every dream and in my every thought
And I can’t live without you, you’re all that I’ve got
Now you say you’re leaving, don’t you know that you’ll break my heart?
When it comes tomorrow we’ll be far apart
I gave you all my love; I gave you all I had
Now you really hurt me, it makes me feel so sad
Don’t you know I love you much more than any words can say?
When it comes tomorrow you’ll be far away

You know how much I love you, but you just couldn’t care
How I’m going to feel when you’re no longer there
I feel like you’ve just killed me, it so sad it’s a crying shame
When it comes tomorrow things won’t be the same
I just can’t believe that you’d do this to me
But it is the truth and it’s so plain to see
I can’t bear to lose you, I need you much more than you could know
When it comes tomorrow I’ll hate to see you go

This was another example I wrote in the little cottage that I shared with 3 other guys (We all had a small room each) in that dead little village. I wrote this a couple of days before I went home with the intention of asking my girlfriend if she would marry me and doing whatever she asked of me no matter what. I wrote this to the tune of the Beatles song yesterday.

My loves like a dream
I love you, can’t you understand the words I say
If we try again we’ll find a way
We’ll find a way that can’t go wrong
How can I, tell you what you really mean to me
If you are so blind that you can’t see
I hope you see before too long

Will you ever know what I mean?
I hope you do
My loves like a dream
Every day I dream of you

Can’t you see, that these words I say to you are true
If you don’t there’s nothing I can do
To show you just how much I care
Don’t you know, love is more than just a simple game
And if I lose you things won’t be the same
Won’t be the same as what they were

This was about my attitude towards my life in the spring of 1978 when I was out of work for almost 4 months and no matter how many jobs I applied for I couldn’t get one. The Springburn jobcentre was a joke I called it the jobby centre because all the jobs there were Turkish Delight. Fu** they even had a vacancy for a yodeller in a hotel in the far north of Scotland. I hadn’t yodelled for a while so I didn’t apply but thankfully I got a job with the parks dept. that kept me in work for 6 months. This thing is just about how I saw my ambitions from primary school when I had high ones like I wanted to be a pilot or train driver or something. When I was halfway through secondary school I was prepared to take any kind of job and when I left school it took me 3 months to get a job as a van boy. My ambitions by this time were almost non-existent.

My life’s ambition

Dreams, I had when I was young
That someday I’d be someone
More than I am today
Lies, I filled my head with lies
Of a life up in the skies
Where things would be okay

Maybe one day if not tomorrow
I’ll be happy and shed my sorrow
I’d be happy in my position
If I had captured my life’s ambition

Dreams that slowly linger on
One day they will be gone
And things won’t be the same
Why, do I persist that I
Should live my life so high
And reach stardom and fame

Maybe one day when I am older
I’ll look back, over my shoulder
And live my life in true tradition
No longer chasing my life’s ambition

Dreams, of what I planned to do
That never quite came true
I watched them fade and die
Now, my dreams are going nowhere
And I don’t really care
Without them I’ll get by

Maybe one day I’ll have forgotten
The dreams I had that never caught on
And I’ll be free from the condition
Of trying to live my life’s ambition

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray for a man who's not a creep.

One who's handsome, smart and strong.
Who's not afraid to admit when he is wrong

One who thinks before he speaks.
When he promises to call, he doesn't wait six weeks.

I pray that he is gainfully employed,
Won't lose his cool when he's annoyed.

Pulls out my chair and opens my door,
Massages my back and begs to do more.

Oh send me a man who will make love to my mind.
Know what to say when I ask "How fat is my behind?"

One who'll make love till my body's a' itchin'
He brings ME a sandwich too, when he goes to the kitchen.

I pray that this man will love me to no end,
And never compare me to my best friend.

Thank you in advance and now I'll just wait,
For I know you will send him before it's too late.

The Plight Of Jesus

Jesus Christ, who is this guy?
Who brings a tear into my eye
I’ve seen him make the crippled walk
And he also made a dumb man talk
He brought back life unto the dead
Then fed the starved with fish and bread
He said his father was the lord God
That he was for real and not a fraud
He said he was the king of the Jews
And that he bore some unhappy news
Pontius Pilate, he was not a friend
And he wanted Jesus’s life to end
Pontius said Jesus wasn’t the boss
And he would crucify him on a cross
Jesus said he would accept his fate
But Pontius Pilate would need to wait
Judas Iscariot had his own plan
And he was a very greedy man
He turned in Jesus and got paid
And so Jesus sadly was betrayed
He was nailed to a cross where he died
And Mary Magdalene watched and cried
Three days after he died he would return
After pushing the stone from the cavern
He returned to from which he was driven
Before he was admitted to heaven

I'm happy I found this old thread. There's still a lot for me to discover on GG boards.

I've been reading some old Scots poems. It's hard to do that and avoid Robert Burns. When reading Burns, music is never far away. This is one of my favourite old tunes with lyrics by the Bard himself.
Here's Archie Fisher's version of Rattlin Roarin Willie..

Rattlin Roarin Willie, he held tae the fair
For tae sell his fiddle an buy some ither wares
Pairtin wi his fiddle the saut tear blint his ee
Rattlin Roarin Willie ye're walcom hame tae me

Willie come sell yer fiddle, come sell yer fiddle sae fine
Willie come sell yer fiddle an buy a pint o wine
Were A tae sell ma fiddle the warl wad think A wis mad
Mony's the rattlin time the fiddle an A hae had

As A cam by Crochallan, A cannily keekit ben
An Rattlin Roarin Willie wis sittin at yon board-en
Sittin at yon board-en amang guid companie
Rattlin Roarin Willie ye're walcom hame tae me

Need

You never have to be near for me to touch you,

With ...caring tenderness in body as well as mind.

Beyond heaven’s star galaxy, thru skies thru,

Capturing my private illusions and desires

Wrapping them around into timeless love affair

Kindled in mutual impatient stoked yearnings

You grasp my deep passions floating in dreams,

Caressed them beyond exquisite reality,

Loves rebirth each moment passes

Lasting until my dying breath....in... infinity

Care;

I love you, I really do,
“The word”, Quite absurd,
Over used, And abused,
So...I care for you;
When you need, I scurry,
When you’re late, I worry,
When I’m late I hurry,
To be home;
When you hurt, I’ve cried,
When you worry, I’ve lied,
When you sleep, I’ve sighed,
To care for you;
When you’re not there, you’re in my head,
When I’m away, I hear what you’ve said,
When I close my eyes, I see you ahead,
I care for you,
That’s what I do...

LOVE

Love is a funny game,
Falling in, out without a name,
Love will never be tame,
For the reckless,
Please have a care,
Before taking the dare
For what may be there,
Resist being careless

The Train

The train, adventurous in my play,

Went everywhere in childhood day,

Fired with a little imagination,

To reach any destination,

As driver the thingamajig bold,

Long or short depending when cold,

Hour after hour, trip after trip,

Into wildest dreams we would slip,

Always able to gain a seat,

Never leaving our own street,

Once there you were not alone,

Magic carpet, our train of stone

Worship

It’s never was what it was at?
However always been the same
Changes at the drop of a hat,
No-one takes the blame,
Love is equal to space,
Universal beyond a place
It’s out there, we all know
In dark matter remain,
Whence and where it came

A man in a war……….r(part One)

With the help of God, I will tell my story simply to you,
Of all the corrupt years of fighting I have been through,
I have no treasures to leave to my son,
Only memories, false virtue in misfortune done;

It may seem like eternity now but not long ago,
Secure in my world happy in bliss and free,
In my modest home, I was king,
Our valley of green grass and clear spring,
Now in the morning of my youth,
Destined to find the sordid ugly truth
What could I know of war, no more than a word?
The naked reality born out of the absurd
Torn from my love one, deprived humble dreams,
Entered the dreadfulness of madness schemes,

War had burst forth, and with it my fate,
If only I had known, I was merely bait,;
Taken away to fight for country and queen,
To kill men I had never even seen,
Or known to hate,
Was I born to soon…… or too late?

Men were sent to strange lands to fight,
For peace and justice was our right,
God on our side, our leaders told us so,
Did they know the same, our spiteful foe,
Each side swallowed humans without care,
Old men yearning their rocking chair,
Bold and stupidly brave lacking in years,
Fledglings even younger than I,
Hidden emotions in front of their peers,
Few would survive, multitudes would die.

Until time stopped

DRINK, DRINK, DRINK

The stealer of my wits, is no sweet distraction,
Though many souls thinks it so,
It can create all alone, thee Hyde reaction,
If carelessly bluntly let go,
It is a drug today would have banned,
Because so easily misused,
The power lobby rake money when canned,
Leaves me, with others bemused;
Feely admit my intent rendered stoned
To steal a sip as devil gawks away,
Practiced to perfection I have honed,
While taxed by greedy paws astray,
I am here to admit my folly,
Just for moments to discard,
Being drunk and hopefully jolly,
Dismissing reality, the Bas-tard

From your silvery beam
Created this fantastic dream,
We were so in love
Sanctioned from above,
Then darkness spread and fell
Into such a lonely creepy hell,
Rapture was no longer here,
Illusions of love, disappear

Almost there

It’s nearly Christmas; almost,
Hear the jiggles throughout the Land,
Playing constantly in store or shop,
Seeping like water through sand,
Unprepared; caught on the hop,
It’s nearly Christmas; almost,
With glitter and paper cards and doll,
Signs everywhere, you can't err,
Santa, toys, gifts,
And the season ball,,
For it is, after all;
Yes... October,
And it’s nearly Christmas; Almost

Is there a get out clause in Santa?

I've written a little poetry. I had a poetry diary, with a cover which I'd painted in watercolours, but I threw it away in a fit of frustration. These mercurial creative types!

Still, here's one that I still have an attachment to.

Heaven

I.

The metal casts a bitter shadow on my day -
I don't know whose mistake.
The truth and light, they say, show you the way -
The pallor I can't take.
The final plan, I'm told, will take my eyes,
The purples all away.
What plan is that for which all voices die?
What do they never say?

I will not dare to fly so high
I will not dare to cling to lust
Memories so frail and light
I must not venture there
I do not care to try to die
I cannot spare the time to fuss
Darknesses all touch on white
I feel I'm going there
I am not fit to live on high
I do not have the nerve to try
And darknesses all touch on white,
And I fear I'm going there.

II.

Rarity in horror of the light
I’m wanted for a cause
The harshness of the sharpened metal bite
Children’s eyes are shaped like saws
You’re a precious little soldier of the fight
I memorise the doors
And running through the cold streets, taking flight
I realise my flaws

I will not try to fail again
I will not die for failing friends
It is not mine to face the end
I must not venture there
I see my body twist and bend
I see it oddly buck the trend
The angels cruelly comprehend
I feel I’m going there
I know what the lines portend
I cannot even fathom when
The angels cruelly comprehend
I feel I’m going there.

Conclusion...

There is no use believing in nothing,

For nothing is not much of a sin,

So start believing in something,

Is roughly where you should begin.

There are beliefs on the shelf

From one to quite a few

But to believe in yourself

Is really the one to do?

Could be tomorrow,
For if it was yesterday,
leave's too much sorrow;

I wish there was a god,
For all the world to see,
So when things go wrong,
Blame him instead of me

With regret,

We should,

Any similarities or likeness or connection to any person, or animal or fictional character, is by coincidence, especially “The Owl and the Pussycat went to sea”?. The writer takes no responsibility;

ILL OMEN&TABBY

The owl and the pussycat,

Met in a tree on day,

Said the Owl to the pussycat,

Stay with me and play,

Said the Cat to the Owl,

With a sleekit smile,

Yes; let’s stay and play,

Least for a little while,

Cat naughtily swung his paw,

Ruffling feathers of the Owl,

Hanging grimly with a claw,

Then let out a horrid howl;

The Cat lost its balance; then,

Tumbled straight on the root,

Its lives spent were ten,

The Owl cared not a hoot…..

-=-=-=-=-=

BIRD AND MOUSER

The Owl and the Pussycat went to see,

Who was the prettiest?

As pretty could be,

Looked in the mirror,

Like you and me,

The Owl and the Pussycat,

Could not agree,

The Owl kept hooting,

Pussycat kept meowing,

No consciences

You see…..?

THE OWL& THE PUSSYCAT’S BLISS

The Owl and the Pussycat looked up to see,
The stars twinkling free,
The Owl and the Pussycat
Asked the question,
After the show,
By whom I don’t know,
“What are the Heavens?”
“It’s a Cosmos of Knowledge”,
The wise Owl continued,
“Resting place for souls”

“Floating knitting balls,
Created for play”
The cat did say,
Licked his lips, added
I like a piece of sole”,
The Owl and the Pussycat
Differ Socratic it seems,
The Pussycat stretched,
And back to his dreams.

The owl and the pussycat...

LORE

The Owl and the Pussycat,
Looked down to see,
A pair of sweethearts,
Holding hands carefree,
Said the Owl to the Pussycat,
“O how I believe in love”,
“It overcomes Badness,
Eases sadness”
Swoons a reminiscing Owl.

Moaned Pussycat to the Owl,
“I don’t think your right;
It may simmer underneath,
But don’t take a bite”
The cat showing his teeth
“Always makes me fight”
The Pussycat snaps;
Then closes his eyes
Laps into forty naps.
With uncomfortable sighs

Twinge of love

I shot an arrow in the air
Free of aim…Free of care
Grazed the skin, I declare
Of Cupid and Psyche sitting there
I shot an arrow in the air,
No reason other than fun
The arrow fell… loosing flair
Basic gravity had just begun
I shot an arrow in the air,
Watch it drop over there
Was it there, was it here
Scarlet Pimpernel flare
Neither here or there ,I fear

The owl and the pussycat

SOCK AND TEASE;

The Owl and the Pussycat sat on a tree,
Overshadowing the churchyard,
The Owl and the Pussycat, with glee,
Read words on the entrance card;
How life shall be lived;
“In the knowing” hooted said the Owl
“In the showing” purred the Cat,
The owl’s eyes blinked,
The Cat’s eyes winked.

The Owl and the pussycat sat in a tree,
Beside the graveyard,
The Owl and the Pussycat could see,
The etched written stone card,
“What of the afterlife?”
“I will have,
The longest debate
With passing friends”,
Said the Owl, knowingly,
I will have,
The most sedate
Beautiful sleep,
Said the Cat; longingly,
The owl whistled displeasure,
Almost a high peep,
The cat took measure,
And fell fast asleep.

Highwayman of the road

The black trusty steed
Sleekly dark inflight
Flies like hells heed
Swiftly thru the night,
Sturdy, strong and tall
Head held, reins tight.

By rider eager aware
Thu anonymous countryside,
Over dikes, styles, bare
Devilishly fierce ride
A highwayman indeed
Wings thru the night,

Holsters hold pistols two,
To fire if in need
Steal from frivolous few,
So his family can feed.,
Then into the night flee,
As fast as he came
Though a robber be,
Is he really to blame,

A fork, a road, a bend,
Ride as hell broke loose,
Both roads to the same end,
Dangling on a hangman’s noose

Concept

Can we see behind the mask?
Can we hold on beyond the task?
Can we feel after the pain?
Can we dry, outside the rain?

Is it play of words with Chekhov?
Is it Christmas without Rudolf?
Is there hearing wanting words?
Is there songs deprived of birds?

Will there be a story, lacking a pen?
Will there be Scotland minus a glen?
Will there be a Saltire proud to the core?
Will the Rampant lion once more roar?

Bare

Everything is changing
But still stays the same
Steadily adjusting
Under another name
Caricatures rearranging,
For the political game,

Mutual trickery fruition
Dialog is a miming act
Flip lip Deception
Is now a common fact

Just like Orwell’s game,
Scribbled with care,
Though minus a frame
His reality was ‘Blair’
Dire bagging an elephant
Futilely seen as clique
Vainly spoke out constant
Left him inwardly bleak

There are desperate flashes
Emotional Clashes
No physical pain,
Just bleak emptiness,
There’s no heart strain
Just dark timelessness
There’s no blame,
Just dire hollowness,
There’s no name,
Just spiral endlessness,
Then; instantly gone,
Until the next moment

Inquisitively disturbed

It is the beguile hour.
Unable to sleep…
Tormenting myself
With scattering views,
Beginning to creep
Joining the queue
Of mostly insolvent,
But lucky for me,
There are borders
Baring to let flee
Any loose thought
Beyond my reach
Or behind a door
-=-=-=-=
But, yet….
I am intrigued
Who is this Glimmer?
Someone revelling
the other side of the door;
Alluring and appealing,
Strips the cert of presence?
To the very bare bone,
To be no more
Than a dream cone,
A mirage, or unknown scheme
should I cure myself of ungodly rues,
keep the door firmly airtight bolted
or open it to be dammed
For such naked views
-=-=-=-
We are a mystery to ourselves
And to one another
Who knows what surprises
lie within my heart
changing in the twinkle of an eye
-=-=-=-=
maybe…just perhaps
brutal proposition deduction
if the scale wavers
safety valve collapse
total change construction,
Weird worlds collide with ours,
Lunacy will dance the fumes
Darkness joins with the devil…
preforming the most alluring tunes

I was born with a label
No way having a choice,
Some say I’m unable,
But I do have a voice
As many things a wrong
This you can be sure,
Because they are strong
The rich flex their fingers…
in the purses of the poor,
as they always will,
but if you truly trust
A massive verdict if due,
Retribution will thrust
but when… I have no clue,
But one thing I request,
selfish though it may be,
do your very best,
release my spirit free,
in privacy in death,
Is my final plea.

There was a young lad called Peewee,
Although his nose was rather wee,
Be blew and blew and blew,
Almost into a trance
Until his brains flew,
into a merry dance
Escaping from his skull den
All unquestionably saw
A mark improvement

When will it dawn?

LETTER

If this and that, was here or there,
Would A or B, be dark or fair?
If, but or so,
Is yes or no
Where or how,
Does that leave maybe?

BE LOCATED

We al hope to know,
When we’ve got to go,
Yet perhaps more obscene,
Knowing when we’ve been.

I had a thought last night
it gave me quite a fright,
I had another thought today,
it just upped and sailed away.

Words; words I cannot find any,
Though in my mind there are many,
Say the word and I will be there,
No one tells words, is this fair?

CHILDISH THOUGHT

The cat sat on the mat,
Clever Pratt, that cat
It’s lucky he’s naw a dug,
Then he’d huve ta sit on a rug,
Would he then be so smug?

CLOSE

Very near but far away,
Where cats are neutered,
And the mice can play,
Where dogs wag,
Instead of tails
Useful things,
Those helpful snails
Sand castles play,
With buckets and pails,
Politicians truly mean,
In what they say
Hold on, please restrain,
As he said,
John Wayne,
“That I’ll be the day”

Precious

Dream please stay
Don’t flee away
Towards the dawn
Because of a yawn
The morn will rise
Once awakes
No surprise
The dream forsakes

On Tick

“Only the good die young”
Where does this leave me?
It’s now half past two,
That’s the past,
What can I do?
Will I last?
Till quarter to three.

Bias

A haunting feeling
Glance or stare
Floor or ceiling
You are there
Yesterday never was
Tomorrow never be
Today is in pause
The eye can’t see.
Rain or shine
You’re never mine

If I died today
would I say
By tomorrow
Bring me sorrow

Double

I have two eyes,
So I can see,
I have two ears,
A little deaf to plea
I have two arms,
Ready to help,
I have two hands
Ready to skelp,
I have two legs,
Ready to walk,
I have a mouth ,
Ready to talk,
I have one mind,
rather confused,
I have one soul,
Rather bemused,
I have one heart,
With many emotions,
I have one life,
With many devotions

La Gare Montpellier

The cat from Montpellier,
Sat all of the day
On station platform one
Shaded from the sun
A kitling of no motion,
Or any such notion
Just to annoy,
Play and toy,
With spiders or flies,
Before his eyes
Passing tabby’s paws,
Even mousers’ jaws,
With sure immunity
On that sunny day,
In Montpellier

A glimpse

For a moment
Your there,
Then gone,
Where?
No clue,
But you
For a moment
Your there

What is life if you do not live?
What is love if you do not forgive?
What is hope if you do not dream?
What is sunshine if you do not beam?
What are friends if you do not stay?
What are children if you do not play?

VOTE

The Owl and the Pussycat sitting in a tree,
Watching the likes of you and me,
When the Owl loudly hooted out
“Democracy; is what it’s all about”;
“We must have liberty to chose,
Cast our vote for the best,
And jolly well leave the rest”;
Said the Owl in his favourite pose,
Starting to cause strain on cat’s nose
The Pussycat purred then seemed to spit,
“Your probably right I’ll give you that
We must have freedom for every cat;
But I do wonder who decides
What kind of fish to go insides
The tin 8 out of ten prefer
And who asked to refer”;
With this Pussycat flopped
Tiredness began to creep
As the eyelids dropped,
He fell asleep.

I guess

Persons falling out of trees;
Willy-nilly as they please
Single, not in a pack
But a lazy lumberjack

Time is swift, you wish it slow,
Drags its heels, no steady flow,
Don’t be quick to control the speed,
In case you do in fact succeed;
Leave it in its non-existing place,
Drifting endless in mysteries space,

With promises broken,

So many deeds lost

With words unspoken,

The Owl and the Pussycat

The Owl and the pussycat sat in a tree,
Beside the graveyard,
The Owl and the Pussycat could see,
The etched written stone card,
Stating; ‘What of the afterlife?’
“I will have,
The longest debate
With passing friends”,
Said the Owl, knowingly,
“I will have,
The most sedate
Beautiful sleep”,
Said the Cat; longingly,
The owl whistled displeasure,
Almost a high peep,
The cat took measure,
And fell fast asleep.
