How many of us were born in Lennoxtown?

I think there was quite a few. It had started off as a mental asylum and then it got a maternity annexe attached for about 20 years or so.. or so I was led to believe


My mum and dad were visiting my grandad in Hospital street in the Gorbals in the mid 50's when I decided to arrive 2 months premature, so I was born in Lennox castle hospital

Anyone else born there? smile.gif

My brother was born there in 1954 - he was a bit mental.

I am a St Frances Nursing Home guy myself (1957) although I cannot remember anything about it.

My mother said she had me at St Frances Nursing home because she had such a bad experience with my brother three years previous at Lennox Castle - terrible place.

She said the nurses who were nuns at St Frances were truly like Angels. Indeed, as I was supposed to be a girl I was called Angela for three weeks because they didn't know what to call me. No, I'm not joking! It is quite bizarre, to this day, if someone shouts "Angela" in a bar or shop I still turn round to answer the call.

My twin and I were born there March 1950 because the clinic nurse thought the country air would be good for my mum. We were born at due date 5lb ...5 1\2 lb respectfully but we certainly grew from then. I never heard my mum say anything bad against the place.

I was born in Lennox Castle. As well as the mental hospital, there was also a borstal on the grounds.

My mother was in there over New Year and apparently some of the borstal inmates broke out and set fire to the mental hospital, causing some alarm in the maternity wing.....

My first baby was born at Lennox Castle Hospital August 1954. Was there from July 20th --August 15th. Had a natural birth with 16 hour labour. All the time I spent there was very well looked after, nice food, made friends with a lot of other new mothers. It surprises me to hear of others bad experiences. unsure.gif

My understanding is that it became a mental hospital after I was born!!. No comments please. I was born in 1950 and at that time it was still a "Normal" Hospital, though from what my mum says it, and its staff should have been certified years before. I remember reading an article in one of these entertainment magazines about Lulu.When asked where she was born she answered Lennox Castle. Well so many people then thought she had been born in a castle.

I was born in Lennoxcastle Hospital 52 years ago today! I was also premature....not actually due until mid January 1960 so I'm a child of the 50s instead of a child of the 60s! ohmy.gif Missed it by 5 days! I was supposed to have been born at Duke St Hospital. wink.gif
