Des' Duffy was drowned while holidaying either in Spain or the French Riviera. He was rumoured to be 'romancing' Miss Ord who returned shattered by the experience.

Was Mickey Spillane required reading for the sixth form?

Mostly it was D.H. Lawrence with the juicy bits earmarked for easy reference.

Does anyone have a Class List for 6th Year & Girls of 1968/9?

BTW, nice to see some 'admin-type editing' on my previous post. Not only was Miss Ord devastated but most of 4th Year Girls went into a sob-fest.

Sorry, can't help with a list of pupils but I do remember that death of Mr Duffy and the aftermath. He was undoubted a popular guy, especially because of his teaching. Afterwards we were subjected to "Pierre Blair", all I can tell you is he taught me nothing except that some folk should stay out of teaching.

Jack Monaghan was the PE teacher you were thinking of, during my time there from 1961 'til 1964 the "heidie" was Mr Murray.

'Des' Duffy was only mourned by the ladies. To many of us in the 4th Year, he was just an arrogant p@ick.
Mr Murray was a Gentleman Headmaster, Poli was a seedy scuffy little sh1t by comparison.

I have managed to recall all but one of my classmates. The missing man was 5'3" or 4", darkish hair and overweight. He lugged a brown leather valise about with him and he hung around with 'The Classics Gang', Hugh Cook would know him best.

'ashfield', are you any one of these or do you recognise the names?

Hugh? ?

The missing name from my classmates list was none other than; Robert Miller. His name came to me at dinner this evening. (Must be a lesson in there somewhere).

Like others in the 'Classics Gang', he went off to 'Uni' I believe.
Anyway, another quandry resolved. rolleyes.gif

I recognise a good few of those names, they were in my year but, being a girl, I only shared some lessons with them.

I mourned Des Duffy's death. He told me I would never pass my O Level Spanish and I did. I couldn't wait to get back to school to tell him but he was drowned in Spain. I went to his funeral, in fact.

Sorry "guest", not only am I not one of them, none of the names are familiar to me. There is a St Augustines football team photo on the "Lost Friends & Relatives" thread under the topic "Trying to find Possilpark Friends" . These guys were in the same year as me.

Noble, not sure how to make a direct link but if you click on the button at the bottom right you will see the "lost friends and relative" thread. Clicking on that will take you into topics.

Now that I've re-registered, my two previous posts were as 'Guest', I'll be able to add a bit more without the four-day wait for admin approval and vetting of any subsequent posts.

Been trying to add to the names of the girls in my same year so as in 4th Year, they would be in 4SG1. I was in 4SB1 and it wasn't until that year that classes were mixed.

I've made an attempt to rummage through the St. Augustine's stuff on Friends Reunited and have only found a couple from my year. A bit discouraging.

If 'gardenqueen' can add to the list of names I've started either publicly on here or by private eMail, I'd appreciate it.

Here's who I have todate;

Margaret Carrol
Mari Cassidy
Jaqueline Etherson
Anne Marie Fitzsimmons
Jane Flood
? (Jane's sister) Flood
Agnes McCambridge
Maureen Mulrine
Stella Russell
Patricia Stepney
