It was written by Bill Bryden. His brother is an old friend of mine (He is old - not me). I'll make enquiries next time I see him.

I made enquiries, as far as he is aware there was no film made of it. At least not one for public release.

  Have a look at the Scottish Screen Archive website at:

http://ssa.nls.uk/browse.cfm?sid=03.02

There are loads of Scottish films covering a wide range of subjects.

The "Bowler and Bunnet" film you're looking for is featured in the Archive's lst of films at;

http://ssa.nls.uk/search.cfm?search_mode=B...ial%20relations

Scroll down the page and you'll see it listed.

Clicking on the title takes you to another page with this info:

This film is available to purchase as part of a two-disc DVD 'Tales From the Shipyard' from the British Film Institute - for further information see http://filmstore.bfi.org.uk/acatalog/info_18719.html

  Thank you Rab for those links, I've bookmarked them for possible purchase of those (2) DVD Discs in the near future, & thanks to everyone who responded to my question about "The Bowler & the Bunnet" it is most appreciated.

  Hi

Came across this forum when I was looking for the name of the documentary because I have been in conversations with someone who has links to the British Film Institute (bfi) and apparently this is likely to be re-released on a short arthouse cinema tour in early 2011. Guess they may then release it on DVD. Can't see anything on the BFI website bfi.org.uk but keep chekcing back or look at some of the UK arthouse cinema websites like the electric (london), cornerhouse (manchester), duke of yorks (brighton) and Tyneside (newcastle)

realise you are are not UK based but it does look like this is getting a new airing so you might be able to finally get it.

Looking forward to seeing it if it comes out.
