Dave, that is true, and it it because benefits are used by some who genuinely need them and others who should get off their backsides and work. Why work when you are spoiled by benefits, smoke and take drugs and drink yourself silly, are bone idol and think the country owes you something.

People are desperate to come to the UK, is it because of our lovely living standards and nice hot climate, and warm welcome. Not a bit of it. This cheap labour has been going on for decades.

"Get off their backsides and work"? Is this a Tory mantra, I heard this crap repeated by Tory supporters on several occasions recently (including my own older brother). Is this part of the " how to repel arguments" guff that includes the nonsense that the EU haven't signed off budgets for x number of years?

Are there Doctors, nurses, radiographers, anethatists etc on the burro ready to fill the thousands of vacancies in the NHS, qualified care workers to fill the gaps in care home for the elderly people with learning disabilities or mental health problems or children's homes? Are there lots of lazy leisure industry staff sitting on their bahookies collecting money when they could be working in restaurants or hotels? The fruit, vegetable, fish and meat processing Industry are clearly lacking the lazy talents of experienced processors who seem to be collecting your hard earned taxes.

Have you anything to say about those screwing the tax system? Have you anything to say about those who manipulate the markets to ensure those with money advance whilst those without are further repressed? Those currently vying to run the country fit the bill nicely as they are only interested in how much their investments are worth rather than what happens to those less fortunate in our society.

Your post is cringeworthy and lacking in any empathy for the people in our communities who struggle to make a living. It smacks of you using "Dail Mail facts" to support your argument. My experience (and I mean real experience rather than the crap punted by political parties or newspapers) of well over 40 years, is that there are undoubtedly a few people who will try to screw the system but the bulk of those supported need that help. What might surprise you is that those who will screw the system are not always those at the "poor end" of society. In fact it's not uncommon of the reverse to be true. Can I suggest, respectfully, that you get off your lazy backside and find out what life is really like for folk on low incomes rather than getting stuck on political ideology. Try taking your political point of view along to your local food bank and see how warm a reception you get from folk who have been let down by our society. Try talking to your local SVDP reps and see what they say. You have some "wee society" in your head but sadly it doesn't exist in reality. Get some real experience of what it's like for those struggling to survive on low incomes, then come and lecture us about folk with " lazy backsides".

... Our farmers need people from the EU to pick fruit and veg, because our own labour force won’t do it. That can continue, in my opinion so long as we know who is coming into our country, and have a visa!

The `fruit and veg pickers' (I've done it myself whilee in thr RAF) are low paid seasonal workers, Carmella and usually go home when the season is over, taking their hard earned bread with them.
Over here in Germany is a `Hartz IV system' ...

QUOTE
Unemployment Benefit II, also known as Hartz IV ("the fourth law for modern services in the labor market"), is a basic jobseeker benefit provided by the Job Centers. No other social benefits are so present and hotly debated - in 2019 now in the fourteenth year after the introduction - and the social courts are busy to such an extent. To be able to apply for Hartz IV, the person in need of assistance must

be able to work
are in financial distress
and a threat to the subsistence level exist

... During this much disputed Hartz IV period unemployed people in receipt of these beneefits were also asked to be availablee for 1 euro jobs (per hour) to add, tax free, to their benefits.

It's hard at the bottom but if you are a fit person and claiming unemployment benefits ... ?

  But but but GERS... laugh.gif

According to the government risk assessment, published on Tuesday.

"Due to data limitations around the number and nature of consignments of goods being moved from GB to NI, it is not possible to estimate the associated administrative burden on businesses"

Well it can't be our living standards.

"Why are there so many slum areas in S otland including Nicola Sturgeon’s own constituency. Why are there children living in poverty and starving, when it is the parents who are supposed to feed their children?".

Sorry Jagz but that is so untrue. You and I will never agree on this. Further it is not caused by Tory governments, past or present.

Which part was untrue?

Just as an add on to Carmella and Jags discussion, about 20 years ago I went the UK on business and did a tour of Commercial kitchens run by the Compass and Sodexo catering companies.
No matter where I went English was the minority language in the kitchens.
Taking advantage of cheap foreign labour wasn't the problem.
The main problem was British companies unwilling to pay a wage that local workers were willing to give up their time and benefits for.

We do that now, and a visa isn't a work permit.

Don’t patronise me, of course a visa is not a work permit, it only allows us to know who is entering our country.

Referendums should be abolished, as should free borders.

Jagz I have said this before, regardless of my personal politics my stance on the UK or Scottish Indy will never change.

Good question Carmella, but until we get control of all our affairs we will continue on this downward spiral of austerity, budget cuts and money being spent on the wrong things that are of no benefit to the population.

It's hard for parents to feed their children when we have low paid workers on zero hour contracts and benefit cuts to the sick and disabled who are forced to use food banks thanks to this uncaring Tory government.

Sorry Jagz but that is so untrue. You and I will never agree on this. Further it is not caused by Tory governments, past or present.
