Scouts Of Glasgow, Memories of our Youth as Scouts of Glasgow Options

As a cub initially at age 8 and then Scout and Scouter for many years (like my father before me). (135th Glasgow and 221st Glasgow). I'm sure, like me, many of your contributors will have happy memories of attending Scouts in Glasgow, The Glasgow Gang Show and camping at Auchengillan (open air swimming pool fed by the stream......brrrrrrrrr). I can remember the Camp Wardens in the late 50's and 60's too. Great guys. I did not join the Rovers but I'm sure many of your contributors did.

Aye I remember Auchengillan as well-was in St Mungos Cubs & Scouts (75th) in the late 50's early 60's-when we moved to Johnstone under the Glasgow overspill Pogrom the local scouts were a bit of a joke-went for 2 weeks and never returned!
Joined the Army Cadets cause they let you shoot a rifle!

I belonged to the scout troop at St. Josephs on Northwoodside rd. for several years in the 1940's. Took part in gang shows etc. Especially enjoyed the annual campouts. We would travel to Dunoon then take a bus to a place several miles away then hike to an empty farm field alongside a river and set up a camp for 10 days!..........A very enjoyable and learning experience for us Glesga boys!

I was a member of the 65th Glasgow from Cranhill circa 50s early 60s There were some great camping weekends at Achengillan near Carbeth It was good clean entertainment competing against other troops to see who could keep the tidiest camp site and intertroop football matches .The outdoor pool I remember with affection I learned to swim in it after a fashion it was either swim or get overrun by the newts and toads . In this PCworld we live in it would never be allowed .

66th St Teresa's Cubs circa 1960. Meetings were at St. Cuthbert's Gym, I think on a Wednesday because the Scouts had it on Friday Nights.
