QUOTE (Fearn @ 6th Dec 2003, 02:46am)
Hello Luceo:
Amazing how long 'forgotten' things come back! I only needed to get to Garrowhill (said Baillieston) as few folks seem to remember Garrownhill so maybe it was the 23 that I took.
I believe trams did have a distinctive smell (probably stale smoke, chips, pies an black pudding!). I can't describe it either but pretty sure if I smelt it today, memories would be triggered.
Where are you hangin yer hat these days?
They did have a funny dank smell a bit like the subway.. I always sick on them and could only go a short journey on one because of the shooglin.

This took me dashed ages and a very clever vehicle builder did a brilliant job of building the Standard, Kilmarnock Bogie, Single-Decker, Coronation, and it's later version. Years ago I bought a giant rolled sketch map of every route and I actually walked over a hundred miles for the fun of it as well as tracing where every terminus once was. It is amongst the largest tram sims built re a former real one and i lve driving those trams I have always fondly remembered.
When I built it people who own N3V TRAINZ rail simulator were taken aback looking at the map as to how extensive Glasgow's tramway was running into other nearby towns. Loved the trams to a bit and now folk can spend literally hours driving what was Gt Britain's once largest tram system outside London

I several years back using an overseas train simulator built the whloe of the Glasgow tram system. Used a sketch ma I bought and in practice I walked every former line around 140 miles. Right out to places like Cambuslang, Airdrie, Duntocher, Pasiley, Kohnstone, Kilbarchan, Barrhead and s on. Took me off and on three years to try and not give up. Can drive Coronations, Cunarders, Kilmarnock Bogies, Stdarads and single decker!

Thank you Taurus Not a desertion so much as an enforced absence. I have had three strokes in the past year and find it difficult to concentrate on anything that I have to focus on like reading and writing Anyway onwards and upwards.
