Close the borders !!

I'm sick and tired of the poor old immigrants, who came here for a better start in life !!!

What about our poor old folk, who can't get the things they need, because of the way the immigrants and do-gooders help them work the system.

YES we have freeloaders here who have never done a days work since they left school..But who's fault is that..the govenements for allowing generations of people to lay-about picking up free-money for doing nowt !!!!

Yes there is some immigrants who are genuine !!!!! But I'd say 70% of them are not !!!

Call me a racist / bigot whateever you like..

But until it starts to affect you and your family you don't see it !!!

And as for the government figures...If they printed them out in front of me, I'd demand someone else verify them, as they make figures to suit themelves.

I share the sentiments of TAM HUNTER who expressed his humanity, albeit by re-using the words of Ernest Bevin the first post WWll Foreign Secretary when he spoke on International Passport content in 1947. I like thousands of others who had fought in and suffered in the War years, left enmass for other shores to start a new life. In short, we emigrated to mostly Commonwealth countries. I came to Canada where I have lived since and raised a family, but I have never forgotten where I had my beginning, and from time to time I return to Scotland to smell the heather, mataphorically speaking. In every country in which they settle, immigrants are vulnerable and bigoted expression is rampant in failing economic times. Even in a country like Canada, many of us will still recall the barbs and the calling of us as DP's, but as we assimilated within the community the barbs were tempered and lost their sting but continued to use their force each time the economy shrivelled. I arrived in Canada during a very historical period, when returned Veterans fighting for better working conditions joined with the CIO (Congress of Industrial Organization) to form strong Unions and eventually raised the standard of living by helping to force a National Housng Act. Soon, immigrants from the ghetto's and slums of Glasgow, Manchester, Liverpool and other industrial centres were beyond their dreams by now owning homes and property. Ironically, in the fight for strong industrial democracy it was the Italian, Polish and Ukranian immigrants who played the leading roles, while many of my own British countrymen who had left the UK to get away from Attlee's "socialism" were the ones who kow-towed and required educating. Canada today prides itself on being a multi-cultural Nation thanks to the Finns and the Ukrainians who mined the Nickel in Northern Ontario, to the Chinese who built our vast railway system and settled in and enriched British Columbia, to the Japanese who built the vast fishing and canning industry on our west coast and to the Italians who are responsible for building Toronto and its huge subway system and are now the largest of the immigant population. These are but few examples. Don't discard immigrants. Help them to understand when you see them being exploited by ruthless employers and remember that it was the Poish workers "SOLIDARITY" who broke the back of totalitarianism and brought freedom to Eastern Europe.

I know from experience that the immigants fare better than the people who were born here worked all their life and paid their taxes etc. My Aunt lived in a council flat where she had water running down her living room walls because the council could not gain access to the upper flat to repair a leak, subsquently my pensioner Aunt was left with mouldy wallpaper and no offer of help from any official.

Along the corridor from her were several immigrant families who had flats allocated to them, decorated in pristine condition, all fully furished and provided with every single need right down to the monthy feminine requirements.

I have seen many examples of our system being abused by so called asylum seeker it makes me angry ... why are we allowing ourselves to be taken for such mugs?

I never felt like this when I was younger but I am now irate and furious and scanning around to see if there is any sane sensible HONEST person for me to vote for for this fiasco of an election but I have yet to find such a person.

My son emmigrated with his 3 children to NZ in 2008. It has cost 20,000 for immigration fees, doctors, passports etc. etc. finally it is finished now and they have residency.

Let me ask the question.... what do immigrants pay to our
government once they are here?

Calling for imigration to be stopped, ronnie, doesn't make you a bigot. You are simply a patriot. However, HOW do you propose to actually STOP 'it'?? Do we become 'fortress Britain'? Would you set up barbed wire all around the coast - like the US do on the Mexican Border? (incidently, they have so little success with stopping hispanic ingress, by this method, they might as well be *p'ing* against the wind!).

The BIGGEST problem isn't the immigrants, but in our apparent COMPLETE ineptitude at preventing undesireables, spongers, and dealing with those who exploit what was once the Eastern Bloc, and beyond. The wall came down - but nobody has worked out yet how to deal with the flood.

The euphoria about the end of segregation between east & west, has long since passed into history - and we are now 'reaping the benefits' - or at least SOME of us are! Namely crooked business and the unscrupulous lack of moral fibre from what Wombat rightly describes as 'the ruling classes'.

The very people we have entrusted to look after our interests have failed.

If you have a vote, and don't know what to do with it, please engage and try and affect real progress, by putting candidates/party forward, who you think might effect that change.

davy (please get off yer backside and try to make a difference party)

When the Grand National was running, the other week, I thought it would be a great Idea to go to Victoria park, here in Whiteinch, to photograph the plantlife and flowers. I had thought that most people would be watching the race, I was right most scottish people were, but the park was full. It wasn't untill I heard them talking that I realised that there was hardly anyone speaking English, it was either Russian, Polish, or a number of Asian Languages. Does the immigration stop include the English? LOL

Like it or not, we are a part of Europe and enjoy access to other European countries. Unless we leave the community, we have an obligation to abide by their rules. However, immigration from outwith the European zone should be controlled. The legal system causes massive delays in dealing with asylum requests, causing such people to remain in this country while legal process takes years to deal with the matter.
During this process, members of the legal profession earn fat fees, often through public funds.
A large number of our elected representatives are members of the legal profession.
Is it in their interest to streamline the system and thereby reduce income for their legal firms? I think not.
It all becomes the usual vested interest that permeates public office in our country.

Lets put an end to immigration the best way forward is to unite the world as one and rip up all the passports, then people can move where they like, for everyone wishing to come to the uk their would be an other wanting to leave. remember the population of Glasgow was under 250,000 before the first potatoe famine and over 750,000 after the last famine so most of us are decendents of immigrants where do we send those.

At last, a voice of reason. I saw the dismantling of European borders as a first step in this direction.
I'm an Earthling, as are we all, and should be able to go freely where I wish.

THe problem with your 'reasoning' THEE is it really isn't as simple as being able to freely choose to go where you wish. Areas/councils up and down the country are sagging under the strain of trying to look after those who are 'shipped' here, with the promise of a better life - only to often find its NOT the land of milk & honey they were led to believe it is.

I was excited too about the wall coming down - but the reality is, this boat sandwiched between the North Sea and the Atlantic ocean, is sinking fast!!!

Seriously, some 'green & pleasant' parts are becoming ghetto's - why do you think scum like the BNP are getting a foothold? Ordinary decent folk are coming to feel threatened - and we all know what happens when that happens.

Actually the numbers of those coming here from other EU countries has fallen for several years now. At the same time the number of those being refused entry at border control has risen as has the numbers of those being repatriated. Those posting "facts" should perhaps seek them from official sources rather than from anecdotal stories from the Sun and Daily Mail.

I am sorry that there are a number of people on here who are unsure if they are a bigot or not. Here is a definition, a person intolerant or not receptive to the ideas of others, especially on religion or race. Perhaps this will help you work it out for yourselves.
